Dubbed the 'storm of the century' by Russian media, hurricane force winds, snowfall and flooding that swept parts of southern Russia and left at least 13 people dead Monday and almost two million without power. Huge waves crashed over beachside areas of Russia's Black Sea coast, video from social media showed, as wind speeds reached over 140 kilometres (about 90 miles) per hour in some places. The Sukhoi Su-34 is a Soviet-origin Russian twin-engine, twin-seat, all-weather supersonic medium-range fighter-bomber/strike aircraft. Douglas Abbott Macgregor (born January 4, 1947) is a retired U.S. Army colonel and government official, and an author, consultant, and television commentator. He played a significant role on the battlefield in the Gulf War and the 1999 NATO bombing of Yugoslavia. His 1997 book Breaking the Phalanx established him as an influential if unconventional theorist of military strategy. His thinking contributed to the US strategy in its 2003 invasion of Iraq. On November 11, 2020, a Pentagon spokesperson announced that Macgregor had been hired to serve as Senior Advisor to the Acting Secretary of Defense, a post he held for less than three months. Macgregor was the "squadron operations officer who essentially directed the Battle of 73 Easting" during the Gulf War. Facing an Iraqi Republican Guard opponent, he led a contingent consisting of 19 tanks, 26 Bradley Fighting Vehicles and 4 M1064 mortar carriers through the sandstorm to the 73 Easting at roughly 16:18 hours on 26 February 1991 destroyed almost 70 Iraqi armored vehicles with no U.S. casualties in a 23-minute span of the battle. He was at the front of the formation in the center with Eagle Troop on the right and Ghost Troop on the left. Macgregor designated Eagle Troop the main attack and positioned himself to the left of Eagle Troop. Eagle Troop Scouts subsequently followed Macgregor's tank through a minefield during which his crew destroyed two enemy tanks. As Macgregor was towards the front of the battle involved in shooting, he didn't "request artillery support or report events to superiors until the battle was virtually over, according to one of his superior officers". The risks he undertook "could have been criticized had the fight turned ugly". At a November 1993 exercise at the Army's National Training Center (NTC) at Fort Irwin, Lt. Col. Macgregor's unit vastly outperformed its peers against the "Opposition Force (OPFOR)". The series of five battles usually end in four losses and a draw for the visiting units; his unit won three, lost one, and drew one. Macgregor's unit dispersed widely, took unconventional risks, and anticipated enemy movements. Macgregor was "one of the Army's leading thinkers on innovation", according to journalist Thomas E. Ricks. He "became prominent inside the Army" when his book Breaking the Phalanx was published in 1997, arguing for radical reforms. Breaking the Phalanx was rare in that an active duty military author was challenging the status quo with detailed reform proposals for the reorganization of U.S. Army ground forces. The British-owned, Japanese-operated commercial ship was "illegally boarded by military personnel via a helicopter" on Sunday and is now at the Hodeidah port in Yemen. Houthis released video footage on Monday showing armed men dropping from a helicopter and seizing the cargo ship in the southern Red Sea, a vessel they described as Israeli. "All communications were subsequently lost with the vessel," Isle of Man-based Galaxy Maritime Ltd., the ship's owner, said in a statement. "The Houthi seizure of the motor vessel Galaxy Leader in the Red Sea is a flagrant violation of international law," State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller told a briefing. US Navy P-8A Poseidon Overshoots Hawaiian Runway, ends up in Kaneohe Bay. Coast Guard spokesperson Petty Officer Ryan Fisher said the Coast Guard responded but that rescue operations were quickly called off. "It sounds like all parties involved were rescued," he said. The P-8A is often used to hunt for submarines and reconnaissance and intelligence gathering. It is manufactured by Boeing and shares many parts with the 737 commercial jet.

Israeli Army (IDF) is ready to use "Sponge Bombs" in Hamas tunnels. Various types of tunnels are used by Hamas. Some stretch for hundreds of kilometers and descending up to 80 meters deep beneath the 360-square-kilometer coastal strip and its surrounding borders. Israel may use a new weapon called “sponge bombs” to seal and block off Hamas tunnels. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has been testing the "sponge bombs", which contain no explosives but are used to seal tunnel entrances. “Sponge bombs” are bombs that create a sudden explosion of foam that expands rapidly and then hardens. Reportedly, these devices are housed in a protective plastic casing with a metal barrier separating two separate liquids. During exercises in a simulated tunnel system near the Gaza border in 2021, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) were observed utilizing these devices. One of the elite units responsible for operations underground is Yahalom, a specialized commando group from Israel Combat Engineering Corps, often referred to as the "weasels." Their expertise lies in the detection, clearance, and demolition of tunnels. The device would leave Hamas fighters with no escape and allow Israeli commandos to secure safe routes to travel while searching for hostages.
