Destroyed 88MM Flaks Montebourg - Normandy #shorts 46
As early as June 7, 1944, American soldiers stationed at Sainte-Mère-Eglise were ordered to advance along the national road 13 towards Montebourg, an important crossroads road and one of the last locks before Valognes and Cherbourg . But the Germans, belonging in this sector to the Grenadier-Regiment 1058 (91. Infanterie-Division), Grenadier-Regiment 729 (709 Infantry Division), are firmly set up for defense.
On June 10, the 12th Infantry Regiment (4th Infantry Division) commanded by Colonel Russell P. Reeder, Jr reached the heights east of Montebourg. But on its left flank, west of National Highway 13, the 8th Infantry Regiment (4th Infantry Division) commanded by Colonel James A. Van Fleet is still about 1,000 meters to the south, braking action of Their opponents having inflicted delays and heavy losses on the assailants. General Raymond O. Barton, commander of the division, is seeking to align the two regiments. These delays are as many additional days allowing the Germans to build a solid line of defense centered on Montebourg. The Americans underwent a major counter-attack on the evening of June 10 in the area of the 12th Infantry Regiment, which was stopped only by the intervention of land and naval artillery. The units were then ordered to set up in defensive positions until the division re-articulates its line of contact.
From June 12 to 14, the 4th Infantry Division progressed east of Montebourg, passing the departmental road 42: during this time and during the following four days, units facing the city had to conduct several patrolsto check the defense line of the adversary, without committing itself to the commune. The artillery shells (terrestrial, aerial and navy) are unleashed on Montebourg, reducing the city into a vast pile of ashes.
On 19 June at 3 am, without artillery preparation, General Barton launched his offensive to capture the town. The 8th Infantry Regiment passed Montebourg by the west, while the 12th Infantry Regiment also made a by-pass maneuver by the east. Although the units manage to progress without being delayed, the losses are numerous. The Sherman tanks of Company B of the 70th Tank Battalion also pass the attack, bypass the west and storm the German lines in reverse, creating a lot of disorder in the opposing lines. The Germans, commanded by the Oberstleutnant Günther Keil, received orders at noon to retreat north to avoid encirclement: they were cut to pieces by the Americans who had already largely bypassed Montebourg and forbade any withdrawal. At 10 o’clock, supported by the 801st Tank Destroyer Battalion and the 183rd Field Artillery Battalion, the 3rd Battalion of the 12th Infantry Regiment is scheduled to attack the Commune from the west. When it entered the city, the Germans had already abandoned it, leaving behind only a heap of ruins and nearly 300 Norman civilians who survived in terrible conditions with multiple bombardments.

Rare WWII Geschützwagen Lorraine Schlepper - 10.5cm leFH 18/40 - 15 cm sFH 13/1 - footage.
During the German attack on France from May and June 1940, several guns, tanks and infantry weapons were captured. The fact is that in 1940 the French army had strong medium and heavy tanks in service that were generally well to very well armoured. Some of the French tanks and armored tractors, like the Lorraine 37L, were converted into self-propelled guns.
One was fitted with an anti-tank gun and the other with an artillery howitzer, like the 10.5cm leFH 18/40 and the 15 cm sFH 13/1 in 1942.
A major advantage of mechanized guns was the fact that mobility increased and horses could be dispensed with. The vehicle was not very well armored.
Not only the Lorraine Schlepper was used for this project, but the FCM the H39 were also used.
The Geschützwagen Lorraine Schlepper were deployed in Africa and in Normandy in June 1944. They were assigned to the Sturmgeschütz-Abteilung 200 (part of the 21. Panzer-Division). Some examples were in service with the 8th Panzerartillerie Abteilung.

Sniper hunting in a church tower - Normandy #shorts 45
On June 14, 1944, the 359th Infantry Regiment (90th Infantry Division) was ordered to seize the municipality of Orglandes, the last obstacle before Sainte-Colombe. But the division is engaged in the difficult decision of Gourbesville: the German resistance, as well as the problems of coordination in the allied ranks, delay the tempo of the American global offensive. The 359th Infantry Regiment bypasses Gourbesville from the south and continues towards Orglandes. Defense is favored by a very compartmentalized terrain, where anti-tank weapons can cause significant damage to the assailant. On June 15, the German infantry attacked east of the town. One of them manages to infiltrate as close as possible to a Sherman tank of company B (commanded by Captain Pay) of the 746th Tank Battalion he is aiming with his grenades: one of them enters the turret of Lieutenant Kogut. The latter manages in extremis to throw them out of his tank, until Sergeant Garcia, in support with his armored, manages to neutralize the German soldier. The Americans cease the progression again and are on guard at the place called Les Tourelles.
The next day, June 16, the 1st Battalion 39th Infantry Regiment (9th Infantry Division) was ordered to restart its action and seize Orglandes, supported by the tanks of the third platoon of the B Company, 746th Tank Battalion. The tanks approached about 800 meters southeast of the village and opened fire on homes, particularly targeting the bell tower that allows the Germans to observe the progress of the enemy and guide artillery fire. Faced with a fierce defense of German forces, the Americans do not succeed in repelling the Germans who hold the village firmly. At 19:00, two companies of 39th Infantry Regiment (IR) launch a new attack after restocking their fighters in ammunition. Lieutenant Rainer’s tank platoon supports the assault on the infantrymen, but one of the tanks is destroyed by a mine during the maneuver.
If the Americans manage to commit themselves inside Orglandes before dark, the Germans repel them using heavy machine-gun fire. Unable to pin down the exact outline of their opponent, the 1st battalion of the 39th IR breaks contact and settles for the night just a few hundred meters southeast of the town, north and south of the locality Le Hare bridge. At the same time, the Americans managed to progress and the village of Sainte-Colombe is overtaken by the 60th IR (9th Infantry Division): for the Germans who have suffered heavy losses, the situation is untenable: in favor of the At night, most of their troops leave Orglandes and retreat west of the River Douve on a new line of defense.
At dawn on June 17, the Americans unleashed a powerful artillery fire on Orglandes, before relaunching 39th IR A and B companies to attack at 07:30. This time, the village definitely falls into the hands of the attackers and the last pockets of resistance fall before noon. On June 18, 1944, the 79th Infantry Division established its divisional command post in the village of Orglandes.

Rare WW2 Unic P107 - Pionier Panzerwagen auf SPW S307(f) footage.
In the 1920s and 1930s Citroën developed a long line of half-tracks based on the Kégresse patent. In 1937, the company introduced its newest and more powerful P107 model as a successor to the Citroën-Kégresse P17. But before mass production could take place, Citroën went bankrupt and its new owner, Michelin, chose to focus on the civilian markets. Unic was therefore able to acquire a license for the Kégresse patent, and took over the production of the P107.
The first order was made in 1935. Two main variants of the P107 were accepted in French military service.
After the fall of France the Germans used these captured half-tracks extensively under the name leichter Zugkraftwagen 37 U304(f) to tow various anti-tank guns. Major Alfred Becker of the 21. Panzerdivision suggested converting captured French vehicles. He ordered the conversion of available Unic half-tracks into leichter Schützenpanzerwagen.
The SOMUA MCG was a half-track artillery tractor and recovery vehicle of the French forces during World War II.
Manufactured by the Somua company it was used to tow medium artillery pieces such as the 155 mm mle 1917 howitzer and the 105 mm mle 1936 field gun, as well as their specific ammunition trailers. Of this main version 345 were produced: 264 until 1 September 1939 and another 81 until the end of May 1940.
The SOMUA MCG Pionier Panzerwagen, was a conversion for engineer units. The machine carried a standby collapsible bridge on the sides of the hull.

101st/82nd Airborne Marmion Farm #shorts 33
Although Ravenoville is more than three kilometers north of US-designated “A” jump zone for the 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment (101st Airborne Division), several sticks of this regiment land in the immediate vicinity of the village at First hours of June 6, 1944, victims of navigational errors by pilots who are hampered by the firing of German antiaircraft artillery. During the night and the morning of June 6th, the junior commander of the 3rd Battalion of the 502nd Parachute Infantry Regiment (PIR), Major John P. Stopka, gathers all the isolated elements near Ravenoville. These paratroopers guided by Stopka attack a farm (formerly of the Marmion family) south of Ravenoville, which was turned into a fulcrum by the Germans to control the crossroads between departmental roads 14 and 15. They kill six soldiers and make 24 prisoners and then moved into the buildings. Lost or isolated paratroopers reinforce the position: these men belong mainly to the 1st battalion of the 506th PIR (1/506th) and the 2nd battalion of the 502nd PIR (2/502nd), but Stopka also gathers men from the 3/502nd, 2/506th, battery A of the 377th Parachute Field Artillery Battalion and the 508th PIR (82nd Airborne Division). They defended themselves against several German attacks before retreating the next day in direction of Sainte-Marie-du-Mont.
On June 7, 1944, the 1st Battalion of the 22nd Infantry Regiment (4th Infantry Division) began its offensive from the northern outskirts of Saint-Germain-de-Varreville and reached Ravenoville in the late afternoon. Reconnaissance is carried out by elements of the 3rd battalion to the place of the Ravenoville Châlet on the beach, where the Wn 103 strongpoint (also known as Stp 12) is located. This site is defended along the dunes by an anti-tank wall; Its main armament consists of a 88 mm gun under casemate H612 with a headlight on the roof and a 50 mm gun under casemate derived from the Regelbau H667 type, the orientation of which makes it possible to beat by fire the beach in succession, to the north and South. Bombed by the Allied navy guns on D-Day, soldiers are still there when the Americans seize it, but they initially refuse to surrender. After a few negotiations, 82 German soldiers surrendered.

Gold Beach after the Battle - D-Day #shorts 31
Gold Beach after the Battle - D-Day.
Gold, commonly known as Gold Beach, was the code name for one of the five areas of the Allied invasion of German-occupied France in the Normandy landings on 6 June 1944, during the Second World War. Gold, the central of the five areas, was located between Port-en-Bessin on the west and La Rivière on the east.

Rare Geschützwagen FCM - 10.5cm leFH 16 (Sf.) - footage
During the German attack on France from May and June 1940, several guns, tanks and infantry weapons were captured. The fact is that in 1940 the French army had strong medium and heavy tanks in service that were generally well to very well armoured. Some medium tanks such as the FCM 36 were fitted in 1942 with an armored superstructure.
The FCM 36 undercarriages were fitted with the 10.5cm leFH 18 and the 7,5cm PaK 40/1
A major advantage of mechanized guns was the fact that mobility increased and horses could be dispensed with. The vehicle was not very well armored.
Not only the FCM was used for this project, the H39 and the Lorraine Schlepper were also used.
The Geschützwagen FCM - 10.5cm leFH 16 (Sf.) were deployed in Normandy in June 1944. They were assigned to the Sturmgeschütz-Abteilung 200 (part of the 21. Panzer-Division). Some examples were in service with the 8th Panzerartillerie Abteilung.
