*Moon Landscape*
Located in the heart of the Namib Desert, about 38 minutes drive from Swokopmund and just over 1hr from Walvis bay, the moon landing resembles the lunar surface.
It has vast stretches of undulating sand dunes, rugged rock formations, and stark, barren terrain.
It’s also one of the most famous attractions in Namibia.
*The Desert Itself*
The Namib desert only receives 2 - 5 ml of water each year, making it one of the driest deserts in the world.
One of the main sources of water that the scarce vegetation receives for most of the year comes from the breeze carried from the sea.
Namib means “vast” or "an area where there is nothing" in the local Nama language.
It is home to over 3500 species of plants and the region also boasts some of the world's most magnificent desert scenery.
Not to mention its unusual animals, including desert lions, wild desert horses and oryx
Near the Namib-Naukluft National Park, the Goanikontes Oasis has a series of natural springs that emerge from the desert's underground aquifers.
These springs provide a reliable source of water, therefore, you can see many green trees here.
The name "Goanikontes" is derived from the Nama language and translates to "place of water."
It has been a vital water source for indigenous communities and early European settlers in the region.
There are accommodations available at the oasis, ranging from campsites for travelers with their own camping gear to more comfortable lodges and guesthouses for those looking for a more comfortable stay.
It’s also a good base to explore nearby activities, like the famous dune 45, the moon landing scape itself and other interesting things.
The desert within Dorob National Park isn't the barren wasteland one might imagine. It's home to a wide array of wildlife. The Namib Desert beetle, has inbuilt ingenious mechanisms to extract water from the morning fog, surviving in one of the driest places on Earth. In the rocky outcrops and canyons, you'll find desert-adapted mammals like oryx, springbok, and desert foxes. These creatures have been created with sustenance to withstand the extreme temperatures and limited resources of the desert.
The crown jewel of the desert, however, is the iconic Namib Desert, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that stretches for over 1,200 miles. Its breathtaking vistas include the renowned Sossusvlei, where rust-red dunes rise dramatically against the deep blue sky. The stark beauty of this desert landscape draws photographers and adventure seekers alike.
In this arid wilderness, the wildlife has the ability to survive the harshest of conditions. The elusive desert elephants and black rhinos roam the rocky terrain, while the skies are patrolled by the magnificent martial eagle. Nightfall in the Namib unveils a celestial spectacle, making it a prime location for stargazing.
The region encompassing Walvis Bay, Dorob National Park, and the surrounding desert epitomizes the raw and captivating beauty of Namibia. It showcases the harmonious coexistence of marine life, desert landscapes, and resilient wildlife. This area is a testament to the wonders of our natural world and serves as a poignant reminder of the importance of conservation in preserving these ecosystems for generations to come. Whether you're an intrepid explorer or simply a lover of nature's wonders, this corner of Namibia is an invitation to immerse yourself in the enigmatic beauty of the desert and its remarkable wildlife.

Namibia, a land of mesmerizing landscapes and abundant wildlife, is a country that beckons explorers and nature enthusiasts from around the world. Nestled along the Atlantic Ocean coastline, the region around Walvis Bay and Dorob National Park offers a unique blend of marine wonders, expansive deserts, and diverse wildlife.
Walvis Bay, a natural harbor and Namibia's only deep-sea port, serves as the gateway to this extraordinary region. Its name, meaning "Whale Bay" in Afrikaans, hints at the marine marvels that await. The bay's calm waters are a haven for marine life, and it's not uncommon to spot seals, dolphins, and even the majestic humpback whales. Birdwatchers also flock to the area to witness the migratory spectacle of thousands of flamingos turning the bay's shallow lagoon into a sea of pink. This unique interplay of marine and avian life makes Walvis Bay a vital stop for both local and migratory species.
Dorob National Park, situated adjacent to Walvis Bay, extends the enchantment of this coastal region into the heart of the Namib Desert. Covering over 1,545 square miles, this national park is a haven for desert enthusiasts and conservationists. The park's striking dunes, some reaching heights of over 1,000 feet, are captivating natural sculptures shaped by the relentless wind and time. Adventurous souls can explore the otherworldly landscapes by 4x4, hike through the dunes, or embark on guided excursions.

#SouthAfrica #travelSouthafrica #namibia #namibdesert #explorers #travelnamibia
And here starts another saga... We had problems with one of our visas and now we faced difficulties during our stay in South Africa. So, we decided to go to Namibia 😱
The Namib Desert is a striking and unique desert located in Namibia, a country in southwestern Africa.
Namibia Desert:
The Namib Desert stretches along the western coast of Namibia, covering a vast area of approximately 81,000 square kilometers (31,000 square miles). It is characterized by its iconic towering sand dunes, some of which are among the highest in the world. The most famous of these dunes is Dune 45, known for its stunning appearance during sunrise and sunset, when its colors shift dramatically. The desert's unique landscapes also include gravel plains, rugged mountains, and dry riverbeds.
One of the most intriguing features of the Namib Desert is its extreme arid conditions. Many plant and animal species can withstand harsh environments, such as the Welwitschia plant, which can live for over a thousand years, and elephants and lions.
Namibia:
Namibia, situated in southwestern Africa, is a country of remarkable natural beauty and cultural diversity. It gained independence from South Africa in 1990 and has since become known for its stable political environment. Its capital city is Windhoek.
Namibia boasts a range of distinct landscapes beyond the Namib Desert, including the mesmerizing Skeleton Coast with its shipwrecks and seal colonies, the dramatic Fish River Canyon, and the lush Caprivi Strip. The country is also home to diverse wildlife, with Etosha National Park being a prime destination for spotting lions, elephants, giraffes, and various antelope species.
In addition to its natural wonders, Namibia is renowned for its indigenous cultures, including the San people, who are known for their traditional hunter-gatherer way of life, and the Himba people, famous for their distinct red ochre-covered skin and intricate hairstyles.
Tourism plays a significant role in Namibia's economy, with visitors drawn to its stunning landscapes, wildlife, adventure activities like sandboarding and safari tours, and its commitment to eco-friendly practices.
In summary, the Namib Desert and Namibia together offer a captivating blend of ancient desert landscapes, unique flora and fauna, rich cultural heritage, and opportunities for unforgettable experiences.

Why you MUST SEE TABLE MOUNTAIN + Husky sled racing on the beach in South Africa
#tablemountain #capetown #gardenroute #southafrica
Rising above Cape Town, Table Mountain is probably South Africa's most iconic landmark. The stunning flat-topped mountain is home to the widest variety of flowers and other plant life in the world and, in fact, contains more species of plants than exist in the entire British Isles – despite being smaller than London.
Table Mountain was also elected the top 1 of the 7 Wonders of Nature, alongside with the Amazon rainforest, Vietnam's Halong Bay, Argentina's Iguazu Falls, South Korea's Jeju Island, Indonesia's Komodo and the Philippines' Puerto Princesa Underground River.

In 2009 he caught the adventure bug after meeting Simon and Lisa Thomas of 2 Ride the World and then watching Charlie and Ewan on The Long Way Round and The Long Way Down. He bought his first adventure bike: a used ’09 Kawasaki KLR.
Motorcycle training and safety are a high priority for active duty service members, so Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) courses are a way of life, as is ATGATT (All The Gear All The Time). Glen has completed several MSF courses and was even the motorcycle safety representative for his unit. The adventure training started at a great local school, Puget Sound Safety Off Road (PSSOR), where he took Off-Road 201, the Off-road 101 instructor course, and the weekend-long Adventure Camp.
After retiring from the Air Force in 2011 and patiently waiting for the release of the Yamaha Super Tenere, Glen finally got his hands on a 2012 from Jeff Anderson at Sportland Yamaha in Cle Elum, Washington. His Super Tenere has accrued over 87,000miles and has been an awesome machine.
With the introduction of the (long awaited)2020 Tenere 700, Glen was able to secure one of the first to hit the US.
He’s off traveling the US in the Yamahauler! A.k.a Ford Van where he does vanlife as well.
Soon after acquiring the Super Tenere, Glen and a handful of Tenere owners sought out each other in the area through the Yamaha Super Tenere Forum. The first meeting was at co-founder Jeff Haar’s house in Issaquah, WA, with seven bikes taking a ride up the North Fork of the Snoqualmie River Road and returning for a BBQ. The PNWSTOG Facebook group was started and now has almost 300 members of Tenere owners from all over the Northwest. The intent behind the PNWSTOG is to meet up with other Adventure riders to simply go for a ride and have fun.

#CapeAgulhas #capetown #SouthernMostTipofAfrica #SouthAfrica #CapeAgulhas #GardenRoute
We're Steve and Naz. We have been Digital Nomads and Remote workers for over two years as we travel and explore the planet.
From van life to lighthouse life? Cape Agulhas is the southernmost point of the African continent and is also the dividing line between the Atlantic and Indian oceans. It is also home to one of the oldest lighthouses in South Africa, still in operation.
In this episode we went to Cape Agulhas National Park and climbed an old (and scary) lighthouse.
Hope you like it!
From WP: Cape Agulhas is located in the Overberg region, 170 kilometres (105 mi) southeast of Cape Town. The cape was named by Portuguese navigators, who called it Cabo das Agulhas—Portuguese for "Cape of Needles"—after noticing that around the year 1500 the direction of magnetic north (and therefore the compass needle) coincided with true north in the region. The cape is within the Cape Agulhas Local Municipality in the Overberg District of the Western Cape province of South Africa.
A common misconception is that the Cape of Good Hope is the southern tip of Africa, based on the misbelief that the Cape was the dividing point between the Atlantic and Indian oceans. In fact, the southernmost point of Africa is Cape Agulhas about 150 kilometres (90 mi) to the east-southeast. The currents of the two oceans meet at the point where the warm-water Agulhas current meets the cold-water Benguela current and turns back on itself. That oceanic meeting point fluctuates between Cape Agulhas and Cape Point (about 1.2 kilometres (0.75 mi) east of the Cape of Good Hope).

#digitalnomads #southafrica #tinyhouse #tinyhouses
How about sleeping in an Off Grid Tiny House in the middle of the forest? Or how about sleeping inside a KOMBI VW Camper Van Conversion in the middle of the forest? You can do both, you know? The owners of this Kombi had the brilliant idea to transform this little van into a very beautiful house with an open-sky bathroom and composting toilet!
We're Steve and Naz. We have been Full-time Travellers / Digital Nomads and Remote workers for over two years as we travel and explore the planet.
We document Tiny Houses, Van Life, Sustainable Living and Travel Adventures.
Having been inspired by others, we decided to take a leap of faith and build our own little tiny home and start van life. We bought a 2018 van and we are in the process of converting it to travel in full-time.
Our goal is to step out in faith, intention and authenticity as we share our journey and hopefully inspire yours. We hope that our videos will inspire you to step outside of your comfort zone and live your dream… just like us… one step at a time.
Buckle up, subscribe, and join us on our journey.

We're Steve and Naz. We have been Digital Nomads and Remote workers for three years as we travel and explore the planet.
In today's video we stayed in this off the grid cabin tiny house in the middle of the Fynbos forest in Wilderness, Western Cape, Garden Route, South Africa.
We loved it! Wilderness is a seaside town on the Garden Route of the southern Cape in South Africa. It is situated a short distance east from the city of George, on the N2 down the Kaaiman's River Pass. It is near Map of Africa.

Off-grid living is the practice of living without access to public utilities such as electricity, gas, and water, and without relying on the traditional infrastructure of modern society. Off-grid living has become increasingly popular in recent years due to the desire to live more sustainably and reduce the environmental impact of one’s lifestyle.
Off-grid living is not a one-size-fits-all lifestyle, as there are different levels of off-grid living. Some people may choose to live completely off-grid, while others may opt for a hybrid approach, connecting to the grid for some services while living primarily off-grid.
The benefits of off-grid living include reduced utility bills, increased independence, and greater connection with nature. It also provides an opportunity to reduce one’s environmental footprint by relying on renewable energy sources such as solar or wind power. Finally, off-grid living can be a great way to save money and live within one’s means.
Despite the benefits of off-grid living, there are some important considerations to keep in mind. In order to live off-grid, one must be prepared to invest in the necessary technology, as well as the time and effort to maintain it. Off-grid living also requires a more self-sufficient lifestyle, which can be challenging for those accustomed to a more reliant lifestyle.
The technology required for off-grid living includes renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, or hydro power; energy storage systems such as batteries; and water collection and purification systems. It is important to research the various options available in order to determine which system will best meet one’s needs.
In addition to the technology, off-grid living requires a lifestyle change. This can include learning how to grow and preserve food, conserve water, and develop strategies for waste management. It also requires developing a plan for dealing with emergencies, as well as learning basic skills such as carpentry, plumbing, and electrical wiring.
Finally, off-grid living requires a commitment to self-reliance and resourcefulness. It is not a lifestyle for everyone, but those who choose to pursue it will find it to be a rewarding and fulfilling experience. Off-grid living can provide a greater sense of freedom, independence, and connection with nature and spend time with Him.
