Mark 16:15, “And He said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature.” Jesus commanded His disciples to GO into all the world and PREACH THE GOSPEL. The key word is “Go.” Most churches today don't GO as the Bible commands. Rather, they sit or remain idle. They are as those unfaithful servants in Matthew 20:6 of whom Jesus said, “Why stand ye here all the day idle?” (Note: All Scripture references are only from the trustworthy King James Bible). The most important duty of every Christian is to go soulwinning. 2nd Corinthians 5:10-11, “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men...” Every born-again believer has a responsibility to preach the Gospel, i.e., to share the Good News of Jesus Christ crucified with lost sinners so that they can be forgiven and spend eternity in Heaven. But what is the gospel? An alarming number of Christians are zealous to preach the gospel, but they don't even know what the gospel is. They are sincere, but they've never been taught. There is an apostate gospel in America that says to ask “Jesus into your heart” to be saved. That is a false gospel. There is another false gospel which says, “Make a full surrender to God. Amend your ways. Make a commitment to Christ” to be saved. No, no, that is not the gospel! The Bible defines the gospel in 1st Corinthians15:1-4... 1st Corinthians 15:1-4, “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.” There you have it—the Biblical gospel (good news) is the DEATH, BURIAL and RESURRECTION of the Lord Jesus Christ! The way to be saved is to acknowledge your guilt of sin and receive the gospel as payment for your sins. That is the good news... Jesus died, was buried and rose again three days later for our justification. Carefully notice that the Bible does NOT say to go into the world and make music. The Bible does NOT say to go into the world and start a business. The Bible does NOT say to go into the world and write books. No, rather, God's inspired Words instruct us to PREACH THE GOSPEL. We read in Romans 10:13-14, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in Him of Whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?” The great need of the hour in today's churches is preaching preachers who teach their flock to be soulwinners. Matthew 28:19-20 are commonly referred to as “The Great Commission.” “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” Most believers fail to realize that there are two parts to The Great Commission: 1) Preaching the Gospel, and 2) Teaching new converts how to be soulwinners. The Lord wants us to go soulwinning and then teach those whom we have the privilege of leading to the Lord how to become soulwinners themselves. There is a Biblical mandate for each believer to go forth preaching the Gospel. We must give account to God for each day of our life (Romans 14:12). Throughout the Midwestern part of the United States, there's an egg company which prints Bible verses inside every carton of eggs. They are planting the Seed of God's Word into the hearts of people. Amen! There is something that each of us can do to influence others to receive Christ. Look what this man of God is doing to get the Gospel message out to the lost. Romans 10:17 tells us that “faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” We don't need to be eloquent in speech or a gifted writer or a theologian to get people saved, we just need to tell lost sinners that they need Christ's righteousness, because we have none of our own to offer God. This sin-cursed world has been lied to by false ministers to think that the only way to Heaven is to do good works and stop sinning. That is the same type of self-righteousness that Cain offered God, which God rejected (Genesis 4:1-5). Although God does not give anyone permission to sin, living a separated or surrendered life for God has nothing to do with salvation. The Bible proclaims in Romans 3:23a, “For all have sinned.” The Bible condemns all mankind, because we have all sinned. There are no good people (Romans 3:10-23). There are some good men as far as sinners go, but they are still sinful men deserving of Hell. No amount of self-righteousness can make up for the sins one commits. This is why Jesus lovingly paid our sin debt, because we could not. What a precious Savior! The Bible does NOT tell us to go into the world making religious music, or to make a career of singing or entertaining. These are falsehoods that some people claim as a “ministry” without preaching the Gospel. Many people nowadays have wrongfully slapped a “ministry” label on pursuits, activities and functions that are totally devoid of preaching the Gospel. Many pro-homosexual, pro-abortion and pro-feminist groups have falsely labeled their evil works as a “ministry.” They are sinister ministers of Satan. The Devil is a beautiful liar. Genuine Biblical ministries PREACH THE GOSPEL of Jesus Christ to a lost and dying world in an effort to get people saved. What good does it profit a man if you feed him a bowl of soup and provide him some clothing, but fail to warn him concerning the wrath of God which abideth upon Christ-rejecters. John 3:36, “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.” Oh, how this world needs Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Allah is a fraud. Buddha is a fake. Zoroaster is a phony. The Pope is a false prophet. The Virgin Mary did NOT remain a virgin. Muhammad is an imposter. Confucius died confused. The stone covering the entrance to Jesus' tomb was not rolled away to permit the Lord to exit; but rather, to show the world that Jesus had already risen from the dead. Jesus is alive evermore! Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, THE ALMIGHTY (Revelation 1:8). Amen! Whatever ministry you may be involved in, it is no work for God if you fail to PREACH THE GOSPEL. I wouldn't give you a dime for a Bible scholar who doesn't go soulwinning. I wouldn't give you a dime for a Gospel singer who doesn't attempt to win the audience to Christ by preaching the Gospel. To the same extent that God has given someone influence over people, to that same extent He will hold that individual accountable for PREACHING THE GOSPEL to lost sinners (Luke 12:48). America's theological seminaries are nothing more than spiritual cemeteries, filled with dried-up corpses who never go soulwinning, never pass out a Gospel tract, never shed a tear over lost souls. May God give us more Bible-believing, Christ-honoring, sin-hating, soul-loving, Christians who PREACH THE GOSPEL.

This world is starved for spiritual bread, but our religious leaders have given them nothing but stones. A recent 2013 Oprah special featured the pathetic ministry of Joel Osteen. In 2005 Osteen's ministry spent $95,000,000 to build the Lakeview Church in Houston, Texas. It's a massive stadium seating 16,000 people each Sunday. Osteen packs in the crowds because he doesn't preach the Bible. It's a big fun center, a Rock concert, the largest religious congregation in America. But forget about finding any truth at the Lakeview so-called “church.” Osteen preaches the demonic health, wealth and prosperity message of the Charismatic cults. The primary message that Osteen preaches is that God wants us all to be wealthy financially. Not surprisingly, Osteen has become more wealthy than anyone else. Even Oprah, an unsaved heathen, admits that Osteen doesn't include Christ enough in his preaching. Joel Osteen is a big fake, worthless as far as Heaven is concerned. Lakewood has about 3,000 children come through each weekend. The church hired former Disney staffers to work with the children. Unbelievable! Disney is straight out of Hell. Osteen's message is all psychology, not Bible doctrine. Osteen says he doesn't ask for money on television. He doesn't have to, people still send in millions of dollars. His book sales alone bring in hundreds-of-millions of dollars!!! Joel's smile alone brings in the money. Due to the hype on television, promotion by the Godless media, and sensationalism over his wishy-washy books, Osteen is a worldwide Rock star celebrity. Rick Warren and Max Lucado have the same lucrative deal with the publishers, selling hundreds-of-millions of dollars in apostate books. The New York Times Bestseller List is almost impossible to get on. You have to commit to the New World Order to be accepted and promoted. You first must sell your soul to the Devil. False prophet's books are all endorsed by the demonic New World Order! Osteen is full of deceit, claiming that money is not the main issue, but it is certainly is the central focus of their ministry. The bottom line is that they are filthy rich doing what they're doing. When the Devil endorses you, you're on your way to wealth. Satan loves preachers who don't preach! Satan loves ministers of unrighteousness who bury the truth instead of shining the light of God's Word for the sinful world to see. Joel Osteen's wife is a woman preacher, which is unbiblical. She is co-pastor of the church and pitches in leading the church with her teachings, leading men in prayer and speaking in the church as an AUTHORITY (which is wrong). 1st Timothy 2:12, “But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.” Joel Osteen continually downplays the Biblical teaching that God is angry with them. But John 3:36 says God's wrath is upon the unbeliever. Psalms 7:11 warns that God is angry with the wicked every day. Joel Osteen's books are all written from the viewpoint that God is not angry with anyone. That's simply not true! Joel Osteen accepts never speaks a word against government crimes, illegal immigration, the evil Federal Reserve, et cetera. Osteen doesn't preach against anything! He certainly doesn't preach against false religions. The Roman Catholic Church is a religious cult, leading over one billion lost souls into the fires of Hell. The Roman Catholic Church is guilty of lies and deceit! Catholics have heard the truth that their arrogant priests steer people away from the Bible, yet they choose to continue living a lie because of their family tradition. Catholicism is the road to Hell damnation! Any so-called preacher who doesn't expose false religion doesn't have much faith in the Word of God. Osteen will have the blood of millions of people on his hands, for not warning them about the coming judgment for sin in Hell. It's all about money! Osteen is making money hand-over-fist, as proof that it's all about money. Joel lives in a giant mansion and lives extravagantly, not becoming of a gospel preacher. When a Modernist like Oprah Winfrey likes and promotes a preacher, he is serving the Devil. Oprah is the number one promoter of demonic new age, spiritism and devilish things. Being A Faithful Preacher Doesn't Mean Being Liked Joel Osteen is super popular and well-liked because he is a bonafied FALSE PROPHET... Luke 6:26, “Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.” If I were to ask a hundred people for their favorite preacher in America, they would probably say Joel Osteen. This is simply because most people don't know what they need spiritually. Most people judge a preacher based on what they want. Many new apostate churches even send out surveys into a local community, asking heathens what kind of church they want, and then they build it for them. Osteen gives people false encouragement. You have no right to feel like everything is going to be ok if you're not a born-again child of God. Osteen says that everyone knows they have sinned, so he instead tells them to love God and don't quit. Why be negative, right? But the truth, the Bible, is negative in many aspects. The truth includes negatives as well as positives, depending upon the choices that we make. Osteen's style of speaking is not preaching at all; but rather, easy-going sermonettes, motivational speaking and cowardly crowd pleasing. Girly-boy with his Shirley Temple haircut, resembling something out of Gentleman's Quarterly magazine, couldn't preach his way out of a paper-bag! Joel Osteen is NO preacher of the Word of God. Osteen is NO preacher of the gospel. He'll tickle your ears, scratch your back, say some kind words... while everyone goes to Hell. I too like and admire Joel Osteen's smile, kindness and oratory abilities. I wouldn't mind attending Osteen's church for a good time, if I didn't care about what God thinks. I couldn't attend such a wicked church that doesn't preach the gospel, doesn't go soul-winning, doesn't teach members to be soul-conscious, doesn't care about the lost! SELF has no place in the believer's life. The flesh is our enemy, along with the world and the Devil. Bringing fleshly music into the church won't help anyone. Saying a bunch of uplifting words won't offend anyone, so there cannot be any changed lives for God. If the preacher doesn't preach against sin, then people won't repent of sin. Joel Osteen is nothing more than a master of ceremonies, like a DJ in a nightclub. It's a big party. Jesus warned that men all men like you, watch out! Luke 6:26, “Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.” This just may be Joel Osteen's life's verse in Luke 6:26. The false prophets were spoken of well by most people, just like Joel Osteen. Pastor Jack Hyles (1926-2001) was the greatest preacher of the 20th century, bar none!!! Pastor Hyles is still greatly despised by jealous preachers today, hated by envious critics and deadbeats who do nothing for God to get souls saved. The fact that Brother Hyles still has so many enemies, even over a decade after going on to Heaven to be with the Lord, proves that he was a genuine man of God, preacher and friend of the gospel. The wicked only speak well about false preachers. That's exactly what Luke 6:326 teaches!!! God Is Angry Daily With Unbelievers! You'll NEVER hear this from Joel Osteen. If you've rejected Christ, or have been SLOW TO BELIEVE all that was spoken by the prophets in the Bible, God is ANGRY WITH YOU!!! Luke 24:25, “Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken.” A fool is slow to believe what the Bible teaches. many people selectively choose what portions of the Bible they want to believe, and which Scriptures to reject. The History Channel insults the Word of God, downplaying the future literacy of the book of revelation, teaching that most historians interpret Revelation from a historical point of view rather than a future point of view. The Lakeview Church is a big Rock concert of worship. People come with their heartaches and problems and cry, experiencing an emotional high to the worldly music, but the truths of the Bible are not preached. Joel Osteen is a Rock 'N' Roll religious star. That's all he is. I saw a recent video of a Paul McCartney concert, which showed adults crying in response to the music. Human nature is easily manipulated. People are conditioned to cry, give money and respond emotionally to emotional, uplifting music. Women and men alike clap their hands, swaying side-to-side, singing worldly music. Joel's messages are nothing but motivational speeches, total devoid of Biblical counsel and truth. You could attend Lakewood Church for a lifetime and never learn the doctrine of Christ, never get born-again and go straight to the Lake of Fire forever to burn. When asked if he believed that homosexuality is a sin, Osteen said yes, which I'll give him credit for. Good for Joel. Yet, Joel will never preach against the sin of homosexuality from the pulpit because he says people already feel down on themselves, so he chooses to be positive instead. The problem is that being positive doesn't change anyone's life for God. The truth is offensive. The reality of sin and judgment are unpleasant. The Bible teaches in John 3:20 that sin hinders men from coming to the light, lest their deeds should be reproved. Unrepentant sinners avoid Jesus Christ and the Bible. America's churches are filled with religious people who have never been born-again by faith in the gospel. The gospel is offensive, because in order to be saved you must admit your sinnership. You must admit that Jesus Christ is the ONLY way to Heaven. There is ONLY one path to salvation and that is through “the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek” (Romans 1:16). Joel Osteen may be sincere, but he is NOT a man of God. Joel Osteen is a man of the moment, tickling ears and scratching backs. The Bible offends people. A preacher who's message never offends most people is pulling on the same rope as the Devil. 2nd Timothy 3:12-13, “Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.” Joel Osteen is a seducer! When asked by Oprah if he believed that there are many paths to Heaven, Osteen said that he believes there are many paths to Jesus. What a copout! What garbage theology! Oprah Is Of The Devil Following Oprah's special on Joel Osteen, she went directly into another special about a witch doctor in Brazil, a medium for demons (entities) who actually (allegedly) heals people of their diseases. The demons tell him what procedure to use. The witch doctor calls himself, “John Of God.” Oprah also promoted The John Of God on her show in 2010. Hundreds of people dress in all white and regularly attend surgical meetings where John Of God shaves their eyes balls with a surgical knife, cuts an incision into their breast or sticks a surgical tool up their nostrils. The false prophet slices people's chests open, leading them to believe that they've been healed. It's ludicrous and insane! Oprah claims to have documented legitimate healings. It's all healing by the Devil in an attempt to make the demon doctor look like he is of God. In reality, the Devil tricks people, coming to naive victims as a sheep (but is really a wolf in disguise). This truth is verified in Matthew 7:21-23 where false prophets of the Devil were able to do miracles with Satan's power. Again, when asked if he believed that there are many paths to Heaven, Osteen told Oprah on national television that he believes there are many paths to Jesus. What a copout! What garbage theology! Joel says that Jesus is the only way, but there are many paths to Jesus. That is not true. The only path to Jesus is the gospel, that is, the message that Jesus DIED, was BURIED and RESURRECTED three days later (1st Corinthians 15:1-4). Oprah Winfrey promotes Joel Osteen alongside a Brazilian witchdoctor!!! She gives them both the same compliments, the same promotion and the same admiration. Oprah is a Godless woman who is a fake, a spiritual fraud who talks about “the Lord,” but her only lord is Satan himself, the god of this evil world. Oprah makes $350,000,000 per year as the most famous and powerful woman in America. Anyone that Oprah promotes goes straight to the top in popularity, achieving overnight wealth and fame. To no surprise, The John Of God heretic claims to believe in God. He admits being clairvoyant. He claims that we are all children of God, and those who do good are able to channel entity powers. He teaches that “human energy” appears as various colors. He also claims that God is the source of his power. What a liar! When anyone speaks about entities, run! Entities are demons! It's more of the New Age garbage that Oprah has been promoting for decades. Oprah Winfrey is of the Devil. Remember, the Devil's greatest lie is to convince the world that he doesn't exist. Satan cannot appear as a spirit. If you'll research the Scriptures you'll find that demons never appeared in spirit form. Demons always needed a host body, either human or animal (like pigs). In sharp contrast, angels from God were able to appear in their own bodies. That's very interesting. When God cast the fallen angels down to the earth prior to the fall of man, they lost their bodies. Demons have to posses someone else's body. It's important to understand then that Satan and demons work through evil people, drunks, spiritual mediums, occultists, druggies, et cetera. The John Of God, to no surprise has been accused multiple times of sexual abuse. Oprah Winfrey defending the wicked false prophet, saying that her investigation found nothing. Oprah really wants to make this devil-worshipper look good for some reason. Do you know why? It's because the Devil uses Oprah to deceive ignorant people, who visit brazil to see the Devil-man. When asked by Oprah what happens when we die, The John Of God said everyone has eternal life. He defines God as love, period. So in his heretical little world, no one ever goes to Hell to suffer. But God is also a holy God, a just God, a jealous God. God is no respecter of persons (Romans 2:11) and will cast all Christ-rejecters into Hell forever (2nd Thessalonians 1:8-9). The John Of God never mentioned the name of Jesus, plainly exposing him as a fraud. Revelation 20:11-15 teaches that anyone who does in their sins, whose name is not found in the Lamb's Book of Life will be cast into Hell forever. Neither Osteen, Oprah nor the John Of God warn anyone about the fires and judgment of God in Hell. Americans travel by the hundreds to Brazil, seeking a miracle from The John Of God. Don't fall for the hype. The Bible warns against false prophets coming in the last days. Whether Pentecostal Charismatics, Benny Hinn, The 700 Club, TBN, The John Of God or Assemblies Of God healing services... IT'S ALL A FRAUD!!! God works miracles in response to the prayer of faith. All other miracles are performed by the demons. There is no such thing as channeling human energy to heal someone. Such teachings are New Age. I don't condemn anyone, for we are all dirty sinners deserving of God's judgment (Romans 3:23; Hebrews 9:27). Albeit, as a born-again Christian who is robed in God's righteousness in Christ Jesus (Romans 4:5-6), I am commanded to refute all works of darkness (Ephesians 5:11). Oprah is leading hundreds-of-millions of people into the Lake of Fire. Oprah's philosophy is that there couldn't possibly be only one path to Jesus. It is tragic that Joel Osteen told Oprah during an interview that he believes Jesus is the only way, but there are MANY PATHS to Jesus. What a copout! My friend, the only way to Jesus is by faith in THE GOSPEL. 1st Corinthians 15:1-4, “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. You either believe that Jesus is the Christ Who came into the world to pay for men's sins, or you don't. You either believe that Jesus rose from the dead miraculously after three days, or you don't. I DO believe and that is my only hope for Heaven, forgiveness of sins and eternal life. Amen!!! Beware Of Joel Osteen's Religious Business The Lakewood Church is a giant religious playground for apostates. It's a money-making business. They don't ask for money, but people mail in money from around the world. That's Satan's power! The world is the ENEMY of the Church (James 4:4). When the unsaved world is flocking into a so-called church, something is very wrong! As our churches become more worldly, so also is the world becoming more churchy! People these days have churchianity without Christianity. Religion tries to fit us with glasses, but the Lord wants to open our eyes with the truth (John 18:37). The world is going to Hell and Joel Osteen's so-called church is doing nothing to save lost sinners with the gospel. There is ONLY one Church and that is the New Testament Church as presented in the New Testament. It's not wrong to have modern music, or guitars in the church; but you'll find that worldly music goes along with spiritual apostasy, lack of standards, lack of separation and lack of Biblical doctrine. The old hymns have become unpopular because they can't compete with the beautiful modern music of the sinful world. People today want the sensuality of the music, the oohs and aahs, closing their eyes and having an emotional experienced, getting high to the music. It's worldly music! The New World Order loves Joel Osteen's apostate ministry because his liberalism attracts all walks of life, including illegal immigrants. I've learned that worldly music is the common denominator that unites all different races, religions and people's. Why do you think king Nebuchadnezzar played music as a signal for everyone present to bow in worship to his image in Daniel chapter 3? Music is the universal language! If you start a new church and play Blues music to attract members, you will pack the building, make tons of money without asking a dime, and the media (including Illuminati puppet Oprah) will promote you to fame. While jamming and gettin' down dancing to the blues at church, they claim when interviewed that the spirit of God is in their church. In reality it's all of the Devil, a nightclub covering as a New Testament Church. God deliver this wicked generation from nightclub church services. In his new book, "Become A Better You," Osteen's 7 principles for becoming a better you don't mention God or Jesus Christ even once. This is apostasy. All we hear about is love, love, love; BUT, we ought to also be hearing about God's wrath towards unrepentant sinners (Psalm 7:11... "God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day"). We must warn sinners of the judgment to come. We read the effects of Paul's preaching to governor Felix in Acts 24:25... "And as he reasoned of righteousness, temperance, and judgment to come, Felix trembled." Do you think any of Joel Osteen's audience "trembles" at his message? No, because Osteen doesn't "preach the Word" as 2nd Timothy 4:2 commands. Instead, Osteen preaches modern psychology and only touches upon non-offensive Christian topics. We read in 1st Corinthians 1:18, "For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God." The Biblical Gospel offends people, because it MUST include the guilt and condemnation which our sin brings upon us. It's not enough to just acknowledge Jesus Christ. You must come to the cross of Jesus Christ as a dirty, rotten, condemned, guilty, hell-deserving SINNER!!! Joel Osteen Preaches “Another Gospel” On page xi in the introduction to “I NEVER KNEW YOU,” Michael Bowen states that one of Satan's greatest weapons against mankind is... “to con people into living the Christian lifestyle without ever being born again.” What a great statement! One of the things I like about Bowen's book is that he approaches the matter from a gentlemanly point of view. For example, on page 21 he states concerning Pastor Joel Osteen... “Osteen is not the enemy, folks, but Osteen is being 'used' by the enemy to lead all who believe in a 'different' gospel into a Christless eternity.” The enemy is Satan who hates all people, saved and unsaved alike, and wants to lure as many people into the Lake of Fire (Gehenna) with him as possible to be punished for ever and ever. Just as Joel Osteen, likewise Ray Comfort, John Hagee, Charles Stanley and other “greats” of our generation are not bad people, they are sincere; but they are sincerely wrong about the gospel. In one of his sermons, Joel Osteen once asked his church audience where they would spend eternity if they died that moment. Clearly, Osteen does care if his congregation goes to Heaven or Hell. Albeit, Osteen's errant way of salvation is to repent of sins, ask Jesus into our hearts, ask Him to wash us clean, and make Him Lord of our life. Osteen hasn't even begun to mention the gospel. Instead, Joel Osteen has added a bunch of requirements that God did not. Changing the gospel even in the slightest way negates it completely and there can be no salvation. The gospel is that Jesus Christ died, was buried and has been resurrected (these three things are the gospel). The gospel does not include making Jesus ones “Lord.” The gospel does not include amending one's ways, nor joining a church through water baptism, nor keeping sacraments. It is a simple matter of heart's faith in what Christ has done to pay for our sins. America Needs Preaching Preachers, Not Motivational Speakers! Joel Osteen is a heretic! Although it is true that God looks at each of our hearts—the road to Hell is paved with sincerity and good intentions. We are warned in Proverb 14:12, "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." I recently witnessed to an unsaved Catholic man, who said... "It doesn't matter what you believe, just so long as you're sincere God will look at your heart." I explained to him that he is wrong, and that he will go to Hell if He doesn't trust upon the sin-cleansing blood of Jesus Christ alone. He was still insistent that sincerity is all that matters. The Bible calls him a fool and he will burn in Hell when he dies (2nd Thessalonians 1:8,9). Please don't be deceived—if you die in your sins without the precious blood of Jesus Christ to cleanse your sins away—you will burn in Hellfire for all eternity!!! Mr. Osteen is very wrong... dead wrong! God has already looked at our hearts, and we are wicked... Jeremiah 17:9 states, "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?" We are all dirty, rotten sinners (Romans 3:10,19-23) in need of Christ's righteousness. Proverb 28:26 warns, "He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool..." The Lord Jesus said in Matthew 15:18, "But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man. For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies." Mankind's heart is deceitfully wicked. The only hope is through Jesus Christ, through His precious blood that saves us... "Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot." Joel Osteen’s refusal to confess the sole redemptive salvation found in the Lord Jesus Christ clearly reveals him as a liar and an antichrist (1st John 2:22). There is ONLY one way to Heaven—through the Lord Jesus Christ! With Heaven in mind, Joel Osteen might just be the most worthless preacher in America. Please don't misunderstand. Joel Osteen is a fantastic motivational speaker. Joel is a very likeable and friendly guy. Osteen is charming and is worth visiting just to watch his big smile. But from a Biblical standpoint Joel Osteen couldn't preach his way out of a paperbag. Joel doesn't teach the doctrine of Christ. You'll never learn about the Rapture, the Tribulation, the mysteries of God, the virgin birth, the blood atonement, Christ's deity, et cetera. Joel's church is about Rock music, fun, crying and feeling better after you leave. Tragically, none of that will get you to Heaven. None of that will compel you to dedicate your life to go to the mission field as a soul-winner. The most dangerous thing about Joel Osteen's ministry is what you're NOT going to get; namely, THE TRUTH!!! I'm not trying to be critical or negative, but the plain truth is that Joel Osteen is pulling on the same rope as the Devil. By remaining silent concerning sin, judgment and Hell's fire, Osteen is laying up judgment against himself, who damnation slumbereth not (2nd Peter 2:1-3). Joel Osteen may be a valuable motivational speaker for companies, but he is A LOUSY PREACHER OF THE TRUTH! Joel Osteen is a fool for neglecting the Word of God. You cannot just selectively pick and choose which doctrines to teach. Joel Osteen's ministry serves the secular whims of all religions and lifestyles. Although he openly admits that he believes homosexuality is a sin when asked by Oprah, you'll never hear him say it from the pulpit. The architects of the New World Order don't mind if you're against the sin of homosexuality, just so long as you don't promote it publicly and make an issue of it. So they promote Osteen's apostasy. The Purposely Driven Apostate Life! The new direction of our churches is blueprinted in Rick Warren's demonic The Purpose Driven Life. Warren teaches to get rid of the old-fashioned hymns of the faith; and instead bring in the new, sensual, emotionalized, euphoric, Rock music. Get rid of the old-fashioned preaching against sin; and instead bring in the new, liberal, secular, psychology. Joel Osteen's so-called “church” is Rick Warren's dream church come true!!! It's a glamorized social club, not a church! Most churches have become entertainment centers with large overhead TV projection screens, tantalizing videos and captivating music. A handful of religious companies are canning these videos, music and presentations for churches to purchase and implement. It's like people no longer know how to get a hold of God and operate a church. So they buy an instant church package instead. I'm not kidding! Churches are afraid of liability lawsuits, so they're hiring pastors with accredited degrees in psychology. Many churches want a pastor with two degrees, one in theology and the other in psychology. I visited a Southern Baptist Church where the senior pastor had two college degrees, as I mentioned. He said some good things, great in fact, but he didn't preach the Word of God. Many pastors can say some great things, but a preacher is supposed to teach and preach the truths of the Word of God. The great need of the hour is not psychology; but rather, preaching preachers! There can be NO salvation without the preaching of the Law against sin. God only saves sinners. Romans 4:5 says that God saves THE UNGODLY! God doesn't save self-righteous people who have no need of The Great Physician. Mark 2:17, “When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.” It's time for Christians to become more concerned about the lost souls of sinners, than they are about the local bowling league! Watching M.A.S.H. and Love Boat reruns aren't going to save America! Watching The Big Bang Theory and American Dad aren't going to make a hill of beans different for God in Heaven. Joel Osteen won't save America. If our nation is going to be brought back to God, it must happen from the ground-up. That can only happen when our individual homes turn toward God in prayer, seek God's face and turn from our wicked ways. The television exists in nearly every home today, which pipes in the wickedness, bringing our entire nation low into sin. Television is the enemy of all unrighteousness, which has single-handedly corrupted America. Satan wants your child. You may think that it's a blessing for your family to attend a church like Lakewood in Houston where Joel Osteen is pastor, but you're cursed. Your family needs hell-raising preaching! Joel Osteen can make you feel better and good in the short-term, but how will you feel in the long-run when you stand account to God for your life? What did you do to try to bring sinners to the Jesus with the gospel? While you're trying to learn how to prosper in Joel Osteen's health, wealth and prosperity cult, the world is going to Hell in their sin and unbelief. Over 1.6 billion Muslims are going to Hell in their rejection of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. Judaizer Jews are going to Hell. Most preachers don't care. Well, I do care! I'm telling you THE TRUTH. HILLSONG has corrupted the gospel in multiple ways. They've SUBTRACTED the death, burial and resurrection. They've ADDED submit one's will to Christ in our life. They've corrupted the gospel. It's obvious, just like with Benny Hinn and TBN, that Hillsong pays people to get emotional on camera, putting their hands in the air, mesmerizing the audience to react with emotion, thus providing “an experience.” It's all about entertainment. When entertainment becomes God, then God has to become entertaining to be worshipped. The Spirit of Satan is working through their so-called “church.” Check out their apostate website and you'll find no mention of the death, burial nor resurrection of the Lord. They own 21-acres of pure apostasy. Over 20,000 apostates show up every Sunday for a religious rock concert. It's all bull crap! No gospel is preached. Any Roman Catholic would feel right at home at a HILLSONG religious center. This is the apostasy which the Bible warned us about in the Last Days, when people would seek out teachers, having itching ears and refusing to endure sound doctrine (the truth). 2nd Timothy 4:3, “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears.” The Bible teaches that our battle is not against human flesh and blood, but against the spiritual powers of darkness of Satan (Acts 26:18). Robbin Houston is a pastor at HILLSONG. The Bible forbids women from being leaders in the church (1st Timothy 2:12). People don't care what God said in His Word. In every case of women entering the pulpit, churches go apostate immediately. In another HILLSONG video, they sound like the rock band U2 and the fans are all shouting for the band, not Jesus. This is of the Devil. The fans are all singing along, knowing every apostate word by heart; but they couldn't quote the Scriptures if their life depended on it. One of the apostate fans says on YouTube... "It really works the power of God in this concert they are all anointed of God great may God will continue to bless Hillsong......love you all.....!" Power of God? Holy Spirit? Anointed of God? HERESY!!! My friend, this is NOT the power of God, but Satan. The Holy Spirit doesn't work through rock concerts, driving drums, flashing strobe lights, screeching guitars and rockish rhythm songs. This is the same shameful crowd that Amy Grant and all the other CCM singers are a part of. It's all of the Devil. Where is the gospel? I'm not saying that anything other than the old hymns of the faith is wrong; but I am saying that religious rock is sinful and has no place in any church. HILLSONG is NOT a church. They are a musical arena of singers and musicians falsely labeling what they do as Christianity. It is secular, carnal and of the world, completely. The gospel is NOT preached. Sound Biblical doctrine is NOT taught. The Doctrine of Christ is NOT presented to anyone. It's all a big deception. Judas was one of Christ's very apostles, yet went to Hell in his sin of unbelief. All those people showing up at HILLSONG are there for entertainment. Without THE TRUTH, a gathering of people in the name of Christ is a dangerous religious cult. Hillsong Quotes NLT Denying Christ's Deity On their WHAT ABOUT JESUS CHRIST webpage, HILLSONG quotes Philippians 2:6-11 from the New Living Translation (NLT), which outright denies that Jesus is God, just as the perverted New International Version (NIV) does... 6 Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to. In sharp contrast, the precious, inspired and trustworthy King James Bible teaches... Philippians 2:6, “Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God.” Modern Bible versions are the enemy of Jesus Christ, diminishing His deity and totally obliterating the Godhead. The NLT totally removed the word Godhead from the Bible. The King James Bible mentions Godhead in Acts 17:29; Romans 1:20 and Colossians 2:9. Thank God for the good ole King James Bible, which has been tested and proven by men of God for over 400 years!!! Hillsong Are Pentecostal Charismatics HILLSONG believes in speaking-in-tongues as do all Charismatics and Pentecostals. This is stated on their beliefs page. Women wearing pants! Rock music! Speaking-in-tongues! Women preachers! A perverted gospel of self-righteousness! It's all of the Devil!!! Nothing about HILLSONG resembles the New Testament Church as presented in the Book of Acts in the Bible. The Church is being faded out by a new generation of thrill seekers, apostates and heathens—having a FORM of godliness, but denying THE POWER (the gospel, Romans 1:16) thereof. The power of God does not come out of a Marshall, Peavey or Fender amplifier system. Churches that teach something different are not churches at all, but religious centers of indoctrination. Those people have churchianity without Christianity. All the music in the world won't save anybody.

Salvation Crystal Clear By Dr. Curtis Hutson (1934-1995) The other day someone told me about a friend who very seldom, if ever, attended Wednesday night prayer meeting. He said we were after him all the time about it. One day he told us about this man who died and went to Heaven. According to the story, God was in an office, and people were standing outside, waiting to go in. One at a time God took each of them into the office, kept him awhile and then dismissed him and called for the next one. He said this one man came out smiling. When his friends asked what he was smiling about, he laughed and said, "He's not counting Wednesday nights!" After I had finished laughing, I said, "You know something? He's right. God does not count Wednesday nights. As a matter of fact, He doesn't even count Sunday mornings or Sunday nights. He doesn't count tithing. He doesn't even count baptism. When it comes to going to Heaven, God only counts one thing, and that is Jesus and what He did on the cross two thousand years ago. God Does Not Count Good Works God does not count good works in any form or fashion. The Bible says in Titus 3:5, "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us...." And the Scripture declares in Ephesians 2:8,9, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." There is not one verse in all the Bible that says anything about working to go to Heaven. The truth of the matter is, a man could go to church Sunday morning, Sunday night and Wednesday night every week of his life and still die and go to Hell. One does not become a Christian by getting into the church any more than one becomes an automobile by getting into the garage. Joining the church has nothing to do with going to Heaven. Once a man is saved, he ought to join a good church, a place where he can at tend, enjoy the fellowship of other believers and learn from the Bible what God expects of him, a place where he can be involved in helping to get out the Gospel. But church membership comes after salvation, and no one should ever join a church until he is first sure that he is saved. If salvation were by works of any kind, then somewhere the Scripture would have to tell us exactly how much one must work in order to be saved. Would Sunday morning and Sunday night church services be enough, or must one go to every service, including Wednesday nights? And must one also tithe his income and give to the poor? Exactly how much work is required before a man can go to Heaven? There is no passage anywhere in the Bible that answers the question. If a man worked in order to be saved, then the motive for the work would render it ineffective. According to I Corinthians 13, any work not motivated by love for Christ is not acceptable. Paul said in I Corinthians 13:3, "And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity [love], it profiteth me nothing." If a man worked in order to be saved, the motive for his service would not be love but fear. He would be working because he was afraid he was going to Hell, not because he loved God. Thus the motive would render the work unacceptable. Matthew 7:22,23 makes it very clear that no one goes to Heaven on his good works. Here the Scripture says, "Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." Here is a judgment scene where people tell the Lord all about their good works, thinking He will let them into Heaven. But in verse 23 the Lord says, "I never knew you: depart from me." And then He calls their good works 'works of iniquity.' Once we receive Christ as Saviour, we should set out to serve Him and do all the good works we can. Ephesians 2:10 says, "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works ...." But we work because we love Him, not in order to be saved. When it comes to salvation, good works, no matter how good or how many, are absolutely futile. Romans 11:6 says, "And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work." No, God doesn't count our good works. The truth in the man's story was absolutely right: God does not count Wednesday nights. Neither does He count Sunday mornings, Sunday nights or any other nights. Salvation is not a result of what we do for Christ but rather a result of what He does for us. A man who died in a cheap hotel room in one of our great western states left a poem behind, part of which said, I've tried in vain a thousand ways, My fears to quell, my hopes to raise; And all I need, the Bible says, Is Jesus! He went on to say, Though some will mock, and some will blame; In spite of fear, in spite of shame, I'll go to Him because His name Is Jesus! The man who wrote the above lines had squandered a fortune in search of peace and happiness, but he never found either until he realized that Jesus Christ was all he needed and accepted Him as Saviour. God Does Not Count Our Righteousness If a man went to Heaven on his own righteousness, he would have to be as holy and as righteous as God Himself. And no man except Jesus Christ has ever been that righteous. God is so righteous that no man can look upon God and live. In Exodus 33:18 Moses said to God, "I beseech thee, shew me thy glory." And God replied in verses 20-23, "Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.... Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock: And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by: And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen. The average Christian lives and dies and never has the foggiest idea of how holy and righteous God really is. In Isaiah 6:1-3 the prophet said, "In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple. Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly. And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory." According to these verses, the seraphims in Heaven are flying around the throne of God singing, "Holy, holy, holy!" They could be singing, "Justice, justice, justice!" for God is just. They could be singing, "Love, love, love!" for God is love. They could be singing, "Mercy, mercy, mercy!" for God is merciful. They could be singing, "Longsuffering, longsuffering, longsuffering!" for God is longsuffering. But, no, they are singing, "Holy, holy, holy!" And the seraphims that sang, "Holy, holy, holy!" have their faces covered with two of their wings. They are not even looking upon the God they are singing about. John 3:3 says, "Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." Verse 5 says that he cannot enter the kingdom of God, but this verse says that he cannot see the kingdom of God. If I go to Heaven, then I must be as holy and righteous as God Himself. And I cannot be that righteous. Isaiah 64:6 reminds us, "But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags. . . ." In Romans 10:1-4 Paul says, "Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteous ness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth." Here Paul speaks of religious folks, zealous folks, but folks who do not know the way of salvation. They were trying to establish their own righteousness, not knowing that all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags in God's sight. How sad that multiplied millions of people throughout the world are trying to qualify for Heaven by living right, not knowing that their righteousnesses are as filthy rags in God's sight! They, like the people Paul wrote about, are going about to establish their own righteousness, not realizing that "Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth" (Romans 10:4). Heaven is not a reward for those who behave; it is a gift for those who believe. My son Tony and his friend Melvin, who recently trusted Christ as Saviour, have been trying to win an older man to Christ. The man keeps insisting that he has to get better first. Melvin, a brand new Christian, demonstrated great wisdom when he said, "Dr. Hutson, the man wants to get well before he goes to the hospital." I said, "You're right, Melvin. A man doesn't get better to get saved; he gets saved to get better." No, God doesn't count our righteousness. God Does Not Count Baptism Contrary to the teaching of many when it comes to salvation, God does not count baptism. Baptismal regeneration was first taught by the Catholic church and later picked up by several other denominations. Those who think that God requires water baptism as an entrance into Heaven teach that the water washes away sins. The only thing that remits sins is the blood of Christ. Hebrews 9:22 says, ". . . without shedding of blood is no remission." If one had to be baptized to have his sins remitted, then what would he do with the sins he committed after he was saved? Suppose a man was baptized twenty years ago. Since then he has committed many sins. Remember, no one lives absolutely perfect and above sin. First John 1:10 says, "If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us." Now if baptism were necessary to remit sins, then this man would need to be baptized again in order to have remitted the sins he had committed since he had been saved. But if he is baptized the second time, then what will he do with the sins he commits after the second baptism? Of course, if water were necessary to wash away sins, then he must be baptized again and again and again. Every time he commits a sin, he would have to be baptized again to have his sins washed away. If baptism is really necessary to remit sin, then a person not only should be baptized; he should get into the baptistry and refuse to ever get out lest he commit some sin after he gets out of the baptistry and die before he can get back into the water. If baptism does remit sins, then Jesus Himself never remitted or forgave any man of his sins because the Bible plainly says in John 4:2, "Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples." Those who teach that one must be baptized in order to be saved further teach that one can lose his salvation. Suppose a man believes in Christ, confesses Him, repents, is baptized and joins the church of the preacher who teaches baptismal regeneration. Then, accord ing to this preacher, he is saved. After a few years he goes back into sin and loses his salvation. Being disturbed about his condition, he goes back to the church and wants to be saved again. Does that same church insist that he be baptized again? No, they do not. If water baptism were necessary for salvation the first time, then how could he possibly be saved the second time without being baptized? That is just one of the contradictions and inconsistencies of those who teach that water baptism is necessary for salvation. If water baptism were necessary for salvation, then none of the Old Testament saints were saved because baptism was not mentioned one single time in the Old Testament, and there is no record of a single individual ever being baptized before John the Baptist began baptizing converts in the New Testament. Those who argue that baptism is essential to salvation teach one plan of salvation for those in the Old Testament and a different plan of salvation for those in the New Testament. But the Scripture teaches that all men are saved the same way in every dispensation or age. Acts 10:43 says, "To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins." Now notice very carefully: this was the message of all the prophets. The Old Testament prophets preached remission of sins by faith in Christ. The New Testament prophets preached remission of sins by faith in Christ. And those who preach the truth today are still preaching remission of sins by faith in Christ. When it comes to salvation, God did not count baptism in the Old Testament. He did not count baptism in the New Testament, and He does not count baptism today. The message today is the same message all the prophets witnessed: ". . . that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins." What Does God Really Count? It would be almost impossible to discuss in this article the multitude of things which people believe are necessary for salvation. The Roman Catholics believe you must receive all seven sacraments. The Seventh-day Adventists believe you must keep the old Jewish Sabbath, along with the other nine commandments. The Moslems think that, if one dies defending his religion, he goes straight to Heaven. The Scripture warns in Proverbs 14:12, "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death." And the Bible says in Isaiah 55:8, "... neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord." God's way of salvation is made clear in the Bible. Ephesians 2:8,9 settles the matter once and for all: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of your selves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast." Here the Bible says it is 'not of ourselves,' "Not of works, lest any man should boast." It is by grace through faith. Grace is the unmerited favor of God. Someone gave this acrostic for GRACE: "God's Riches At Christ's Expense." Grace and works cannot be mixed. To add any works to grace destroys grace completely. It is all of grace, or it is not grace at all. Jesus Christ came to the earth and lived a perfect, sinless life. Hebrews 4:15 says, "For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feel ing of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin." Second Corinthians 5:21 says, "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin. . . . " While Jesus Christ was being crucified between two thieves, one thief said to the other in Luke 23:40,41, "Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss." The word amiss means "wrong." Even the thief on the cross recognized that Jesus was the sinless, spotless Son of God. Before Pilate turned Christ over to the angry mob, he said in John 19:6, "I find no fault in him." Jesus Christ was the only person who ever lived as righteous as God Himself. And when we trust Christ, we are given His righteousness. That is the clear promise of the Bible in Romans 10:4 where the Scripture says, "For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth." God does not count my righteousness, but He does count the righteousness of His Son. The Bible says in Romans 4:3, "...Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness." And then the Scripture further promises in Romans 4:5, "But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness." The only way anyone can ever be righteous enough to go to Heaven is by receiving God's own righteousness by faith. Not only did Jesus Christ live a perfectly righteous life; He died a substitutionary death. Two thousand years ago God took every sin we ever have committed and all we ever will commit, and He placed those sins on Christ. Isaiah 53:6 says, ". . . the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all." And Titus 2:14 says, "Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity. . ." What blessed truth! God took the iniquities of all men and laid those iniquities on Christ. But He not only took the iniquities of all men and laid them on Christ; He took all the iniquities of men and laid them on Christ. And the Bible says in I Peter 2:24, "Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree. . . . " While Christ was bearing our sins in His own body, God punished Him in our place to pay the debt we owe so that, when we die, we won't have to pay it. That's what the Bible means when it says in John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." The other day I received a letter from a dear Jewish friend here in Murfreesboro, who reminded me that it wasn't the Jews who killed Christ. Rather, he said, "It was the Roman soldiers." Of course, this dear Jewish man was both right and wrong. He was right when he said it wasn't the Jews, but he was wrong when he said it was the Roman soldiers. It was neither the Jews nor the Roman soldiers. It was God Himself. The Scripture says in Isaiah 53:10, "Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin. . .." It was God Himself who made His (Jesus') soul an offering for sin. Romans 8:32 says, "He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?" The Scriptures further explain in Romans 5:8, "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." The death of Jesus Christ on the cross was an expression of God's love for us. He loved us so much that He didn't want us to go to Hell, so He punished His Son in our place to pay the debt we owe so that we can go to Heaven on a free pass. My beloved predecessor Dr. Rice used to say, "Every man who goes to Heaven goes on a free pass, but he who goes to Hell pays his own way." And then he would quote Romans 6:23: "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Before Adam and Eve ever sinned, God demanded the death penalty. He said in Genesis 2:17, ". . . in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die." God's payment for sin is death, the second death in the lake of fire. Revelation 20:14 says, "And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death." If we are to satisfy the just demands of a holy God, we must go into Hell and stay there forever and ever. But Jesus Himself satisfied God's demand. The prophet said in Isaiah 53:11, "He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied. . . ." Here the Scripture plainly states that God was satisfied with the payment Jesus made on the cross for our sins. He further showed that satisfaction by raising Jesus Christ from the dead and taking Him back to Heaven. If Christ had not accomplished what He came to do - ;that is, die for our sins - He would have never gone back to Heaven. But praise the Lord, He did the job! While He was hanging on the cross He uttered seven things. The sixth utterance was "It is finished" (John 19:30). And, dear friend, you can count on it: it was finished. There is nothing else to do but to accept Jesus Christ by faith, to trust Him, to depend on Him. The man was right: God does not count Wednesday nights. He doesn't count Sunday mornings or Sunday nights or any other nights. God does not count our own righteousness. He does not count our good works. He does not count baptism or any other ceremony or ritual. He only counts one thing: the death of His Son Jesus Christ. And the Scripture plainly says in Isaiah 53:11 that He was satisfied with the sacrifice His Son made for our sins. If Jesus Christ said it was finished and God Himself said He was satisfied, then why can't we be satisfied with Christ's death and not add anything to it? The only way to show that you are satisfied with Christ's death for your sins is to trust Him and Him alone for salvation. If you trust anything else, then it is evident that you are not satisfied with Christ and what He did at Calvary. If you trust Jesus Christ, plus your baptism, then you are not satisfied with Christ: you must add to Him baptism. If you trust Jesus Christ plus your good works, then you are not satisfied with Christ: you must add to Him good works. If you trust Jesus Christ plus your church membership, then you are not satisfied with Christ: you must add church membership. If you trust Jesus Christ plus your reformation, then you are not satisfied with Christ: you must add your reformation. Now, I am a church member. I have been baptized. I was baptized when I was eleven years old. I try to live right. I have been preaching since I was twenty years old. I travel every week of my life going from church to church throughout this country to preach the Gospel. As I dictate this sermon, I am driving to Lowell, Indiana. Next week I will be in Wadsworth, Ohio. But I do none of these things to be saved. My only hope of Heaven is the fact that Jesus Christ died for me. He paid my sin debt. And I am trusting Him alone for salvation. I am not trusting my good works, my church membership, my baptism or anything else. When we stand before God, the only thing that He will count is what His Son did at Calvary. When the children of Israel were in Egyptian bondage, God sent plagues upon Pharaoh. Finally God said, 'The firstborn in every house is going to die.' But He gave the Israelites instructions to kill an innocent lamb and sprinkle the blood on the doorposts of the house. And God promised in Exodus 12:13, "When I see the blood, I will pass over you." He did not say, 'When I see your church membership, I will pass over you.' He did not say, 'When I see your good life, I will pass over you.' He did not say, 'When I see your good works, I will pass over you.' He did not say, 'When I see your baptism, I will pass over you.' No, no, no! He said, "When I see the blood, I will pass over you." The only thing that counted with God was the death of the lamb. And when it comes to salvation the only thing that counts with God today is the death of Jesus Christ the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world. If you are counting on anything other than Jesus Christ to take you to Heaven, then you are counting on something that God doesn't count. Won't you trust Christ today? If you are not absolutely sure that there was a time in your life when you knew you were a sinner and made a definite decision to trust Jesus Christ completely for salvation, then we urge you to trust Him now.

It is very simple to be saved and takes only a minute to explain. Please let me show you how to get to Heaven from the Bible, God's Word... Man is a Sinner in the Eyes of a Holy God. Isaiah 53:6, “All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.” Romans 3:19, “Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.” John 3:3, “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Romans 3:10, “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one.” Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” There is a Price For Our Sin―Burning in Hell Forever. Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 5:12, “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.” 2nd Thessalonians 1:8, “In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.” Revelation 20:15, "And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.” Revelation 21:8, “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.” Jesus paid that price by dying on the cross and shedding His blood; Christ was buried and bodily rose again the third day! Romans 5:8, “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” 1st Timothy 1:15, “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.” 1st Peter 1:18-19, “Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ...” 1st Corinthians 15:1-4, “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.” This is the Gospel. By faith in Jesus Christ ALONE we are immediately saved. Galatians 3:26, “For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.” John 11:25, “Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.” John 6:28-29, “Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.” Ephesians 2:8-9, “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.” John 14:6, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John 6:40, “And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.” Mark 1:15, “And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.” Acts 26:18, “To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.” Romans 10:13, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” 1st Corinthians 3:11, "For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” Galatians 3:26, “For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.” Salvation is NOT found in a religion or good works, but in a Person... The LORD JESUS CHRIST! Simply BELIEVE the Gospel and You Are Saved! The Heresy Of Having To “Pray” To Be Saved Fundamentalist Heresy! (In this awesome sermon by Pastor Jack Hyles, he explains that prayer, turning from sins, inviting Jesus into your heart, and other popular clichés are not necessary to be saved. They are not wrong to do, just so long as you don't do them to get or stay saved!) My friend, for most of my Christian life I have led people to pray a sinner's prayer to be saved. Although this is not wrong to do, it is an extra step that the Bible does NOT require, which may confuse some people. You don't have to “ask” Jesus to save you, because God has already promised “TO SAVE THEM THAT BELIEVE” (1st Corinthians 1:21). We read in John 3:16, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, THAT WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM should not perish, but have everlasting life” [emphasis added]. The way to be saved is to BELIEVE THE GOSPEL!!! Do you admit that you are a GUILTY sinner, under the condemnation of God's LAW, deserving of Hellfire? Do you believe that Jesus is the Son of God (God in the flesh) who died upon the cross, sacrificing His precious blood to pay for your sins? Do you believe that Jesus was buried and bodily resurrected three days later? This is the Good News of the Gospel... Jesus DIED ON THE CROSS, He was BURIED and He is RISEN! Believe it friend, make it your only hope for eternal life, and you are saved!!! Amen! To be saved you simply come to God by faith, as a guilty sinner, and BELIEVE the Gospel. You must know that you are a sinner. No man ever got saved who didn't know that he is a sinner. Repentance is that thing when you come before God and see yourself as you are, and see Him as he is, and say with Isaiah “Woe is me, for I am unclean!” Repentance is simply a change of mind, where you admit that you are a woeful sinner totally incapable of saving yourself. Thus, you believe the Gospel (Good News) of the Lord Jesus Christ to be saved. Perhaps you'd feel comfortable praying a sinner's prayer as did the publican in Luke 18:13... “And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto Heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.” It doesn't matter exactly what you pray, because you're saved by BELIEVING, not by praying. But if you'd like to pray as an expression of your faith, you could pray something like this. ... Dear Jesus, I admit that I am a sinner deserving of Hell. I am guilty for breaking your holy commandments. I believe that you died on the cross to pay for my sins, was buried, and bodily resurrected three days later. Please forgive me of my sins and take me to Heaven when I die. I now believe upon You alone, apart from all self-righteous works and religion, as my personal Savior. Thank you. Amen.

“He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. He came unto his own, and his own received him not. But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” —John 1:10–13. There are two groups in the world. Not everyone is a child of God. There is a modern teaching concerning the universal Fatherhood of God and the universal brotherhood of man, but here we read: “But as many as received him [Jesus], to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” I think the word “sons” here could be translated “children” because it has reference both to men and women. In John 8:44 Jesus said to another group, “Ye are of your father the devil.” So there are plainly two groups in the world: those who have trusted Jesus Christ as Saviour, and thus God is their Father by regeneration; and those who have never done anything about the matter of salvation and are lost. Every person in this room this morning is in one of those two groups. Do You Know You Are a Child of God? Suppose I were to ask you this morning, “If you were to die today, do you know for sure you would go to Heaven?” If you say, “I hope so,” or, “I think so,” or, “My chances are good,” then just regard that as “No.” If you “hope so,” that indicates you lack assurance of salvation. “Well, Dr. Hutson, nobody can really answer that question. Nobody can say for sure that if he dies, he will go to Heaven,” you say. I beg to differ with you. The entire First Epistle of John was written for that purpose. In I John 5:13 the apostle says, “These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life.” Paul said, “For I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded [thoroughly convinced] that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day” (II Tim. 1:12). In Job 19:25,26 Job said, “For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God.” That is assurance. The blind songwriter, Fanny Crosby, wrote: Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine! Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God, Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood. I trusted Jesus when I was eleven years old; but I lacked assurance of salvation, not knowing upon what to base my assurance. One day I would think I was saved, and the next, I would wonder if maybe I was wrong about it and perhaps was lost; until finally I came out of the darkness of doubt into the broad daylight of certainty. I based my assurance on the promise of God, “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life” (John 3:36). I decided either I have everlasting life or God’s Word is not true. The only thing I can doubt is that I am trusting Him or that He meant what He said, “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life.” When I doubted I was trusting Him, I didn’t argue about it; I just prayed again and told the Lord if I had never trusted Him, I was then trusting Him. When the Devil would say, “How do you know you are trusting Him?” I would pray out loud, “Dear Lord, if I have never trusted You, I am trusting You now.” Immediately all doubt would leave. I am more sure that I am going to Heaven when I die than I am sure I am standing on this platform. I am more sure that I am going to Heaven when I die than I am sure that I am married. And I know I’m married. Suppose somebody had asked me a few minutes after I was married, “Are you married?” and I answered, “Well, I hope so.” “What do you mean, you hope so?” “Well, I can’t say for sure.” Everyone knows for sure whether he is married, divorced or single. And everyone who is saved ought to know it. Everyone ought to know that when he dies, he is going to Heaven—and he can know it. It is the birthright of every born-again, blood-washed believer. You are in one group or the other. You are either a child of God by faith in Jesus Christ, or you are a child of the Devil by the fact that you simply never trusted Jesus Christ as Saviour. One fellow arguing with Billy Sunday said, “Yes, I’m a child of God.” Billy Sunday asked, “Where do you get that?” “We are all children of God by creation.” Sunday replied, “The Lord created the monkey and the donkey. Does that make them your brothers?” You are not God’s child by creation. You are God’s child by regeneration. How Does One Become a Child of God? “He came unto his own, and his own received him not. “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.”—John 1:11,12. “Not of Blood” Now, look at verse 13: “Which were born”—that is the new birth. Then it goes to the negative side: “not of blood.” This simply means you are not a Christian because your father was a Christian or your grandfather was a Christian. You are not going to Heaven because you belong to a religious family. On a train one day Dr. Ironside asked a man about his salvation. “O Sir, religion runs in my family,” he answered. Dr. Ironside said, “The only thing that runs in your family is your sinful nature.” Someone said there is a little spark of divinity in all of us and all it needs is a little fanning to flame up. There is a little devil in all of us, but I have never found a little spark of divinity in anybody. When a baby loses his temper, Mamma says, “He’s just like his daddy!” He loses his temper again, and his daddy says, “He’s just like his mother!” I have said that. But the truth is, he is like both his mother AND daddy. When you get the devil that is in Mamma and the devil that is in Daddy together in the child, you have a devil of a mess! Oh, you think yours is a little angel. No. He has a sinful heart. My children were not born saying, “Yes, Sir,” and “Yes, Ma’am,” and “Thank you.” We had to slap their hands and say, “You give it back if you can’t say, ‘Thank you.’” Yes, they would say, “Thank you,” but not mean it. They had no real gratitude because of their sinful nature. Something inside was pulling them in the wrong direction. The Bible says you are “born, not of blood….” You do not owe your second birth to blood. The only thing you inherit from your parents is your sin nature, the thing inside that drives you in the wrong direction. In Psalm 51:5 David said, “Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me.” Romans 5:12 states, “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned.” Romans 5:19 reads, “For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners.” You were born with something inside that pulled you in the wrong direction, and that is called a sin nature. You are not a sinner because you sin; you sin because you are a sinner. Sins don’t make the sinner; the sinner makes the sins. Sins are the fruit; sin is the root. You do what you do because you are what you are. You are not born again of blood. No matter if your mother sings in the choir, your father receives the offering, your brother leads in prayer and your sister shouts while they sing—unless you are born of the Spirit, you will go to Hell when you die! You can join every church in town and be baptized in every creek in your county, but if you are not born again, you are on your way to Hell. “Nor…of the Flesh” Second, he said, “Which were born, not…of the will of the flesh.” Nothing you can do in your flesh will save you. Now I am for reformation, as long as reformation is in the right place; but if reformation is used as an instrument of salvation, then I detest reformation. The fellow who believes he can gain acceptance before a holy God by reforming his life is as lost as a goose! The Bible says in Isaiah 64:6, “All our righteousnesses are as filthy rags.” Not the worst you can do but the best you can do is like a dirty, filthy rag in God’s sight. I will probably shock you with this statement: I had as soon trust my sins to get me to Heaven as to trust my righteousness. I don’t think any man would press his dying pillow and start bragging, “I deserve Heaven because I’ve lived so good! I don’t smoke, chew nor run with those who do!” I’m living right, but none will go to Heaven because they live right. “Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh….” That leaves out everything having to do with the flesh, including baptism. I’m a Baptist. We baptized more converts than any other church in the state of Georgia. For the last three years, we baptized over eight hundred converts each year. But we know one is not saved by being baptized. I am for reforming. When a man is saved, he ought to live right. But until he is saved, he doesn’t have anything with which to live right. The Christian life is not an imitation of the Christ life. The Christian life is Jesus living in you, according to Paul’s statement in Galatians 2:20: “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.” “Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh….” You can turn over a new leaf, but you don’t need a new leaf; you need a new life. You can resolve to live better, but you don’t need a resolution; you need regeneration. You can join, but you don’t need joining; you need Jesus. “…Nor of the Will of Man” No man can do one thing to bring about this regeneration. That leaves the Catholic priest out. Catholics believe that when they baptize an infant, it does away with his original sin and keeps him out of limbo in case he dies in infancy but it won’t keep him out of Hell unless he gets all seven sacraments—seven channels of grace, so to speak. They call the priest “Father” because he gives them their spiritual birth when he baptizes them. But new birth doesn’t come through any rite performed by the Catholic priest nor any rite performed by the Baptist preacher nor of the will of any man, no matter who he is. “…But of God”—Receive Him “Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” If you do not become a child of God by the will of the flesh or by blood or by the will of man, then how do you become a child of God? “As many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” How does it take place? There it is in verse 12: “But as many as received him”—not “as many as received it,” but, “As many as received him.” Salvation is not a program; it is a Person. Salvation is not an endurance test; it is a Person. “As many as received him”—Jesus Christ—to them gave He the right to become the sons of God. What does “As many as received him [Jesus]” mean? I don’t see Jesus. Where is He? You show me Him, and I’ll receive Him. I can’t see Him. What does it mean to receive Jesus? The last expression in the verse explains it: “…even to them that believe on his name.” To receive Jesus is to believe on Jesus. If I understand anything about salvation, there is one determining factor: faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ. The Bible has many such verses: “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”—John 3:36. Here Jesus divides the world into two groups. He again divides the world into two groups: “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”—John 3:18. “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.”—Mark 16:16. Why will men be damned? Because they won’t believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. It doesn’t say, “He that believeth not and is baptized not and does not keep the Ten Commandments and does not receive the seven sacraments and does not get the last rites shall be damned.” It just says, “He that believeth not shall be damned.” Someone asked Dr. Bob Jones, Sr., “Doesn’t the Bible say, ‘He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved’?” Dr. Bob answered, “Yes. And the rest of it says, ‘He that believeth not shall be damned.’” He continued: “Sir, that is like saying, ‘He that getteth on the plane and sitteth down shall fly to Tampa, Florida; but he that getteth not on the plane shall not fly to Tampa, Florida.’” It is the getting on that gets you there, not the sitting down. And “He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.” It is the believing that gets you saved, not the being baptized. But any sensible person knows if you get on an airplane, you ought to sit down! And any sensible person knows if you get saved, you ought to be baptized. But faith is the determining factor in salvation. A lady had been a Christian only a few years. After she died, her son came to me and asked, “Do you think my mother went to Heaven?” I said, “Yes.” Then he asked, “Do you really think my mother was good enough to go to Heaven?” I answered, “No.” “Well,” he said, “you contradicted yourself. You said you thought my mother went to Heaven; then you turned right around and told me you didn’t think she was good enough to go to Heaven.” I said, “I didn’t contradict myself. I do think she went to Heaven, but she didn’t go to Heaven on her goodness; she went to Heaven on Christ’s goodness. Her righteousnesses were like filthy rags; but when she put her faith in Jesus Christ and confessed herself a poor, lost sinner and trusted Jesus Christ completely for salvation, she had imputed to her the righteousness of God. And she is as righteous in God’s sight as Jesus Christ Himself.” That is enough to make a Presbyterian shout! How does one become a child of God? “…not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” How does it happen? “As many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” That simply means if you put your case in His hands, believe you are a sinner, believe Jesus Christ died for you, believe He paid your sin debt at Calvary, and trust Him completely, without reservation, you are going to Heaven. I don’t know about you, but I’m afraid to trust myself. I try to live right. I think I could brag a little, maybe, in the things I have never done: I don’t know what whiskey tastes like; I don’t know what beer tastes like; I never gambled in my life. I’m glad I lived like that, but I would just as soon go to Heaven and tell God how bad I have been as to tell Him how good I have been and expect Him to let me in, because all my righ-teousness stinks in His sight. I have to have something better than what I can do. “Except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven” (Matt. 5:20). There is not a Christian I know of who lives as righteous as scribes and Pharisees. You have to have something better than they had. They wouldn’t eat an egg laid on the Sabbath Day! They tithed everything. I don’t know one Christian who has always given a tenth of his income from the time he was saved. I don’t live as good as the scribes and Pharisees, but Jesus did; and I am Dressed in His righteousness alone, Faultless to stand before the throne. The only way you will get there is through Jesus—J-E-S-U-S: Jesus Exactly Suits Us Sinners Jesus paid our debt and suffered our Hell; and “as many as received him [believed on Him, trusted Him], to them gave he power to become the sons of God.” If you are trusting Jesus plus something, you are lost. The “plus” will send you to Hell. If I put my confidence in this little clergy seat to hold me up, with ninety percent of my weight on it and ten percent on a rope, the ten percent destroys the ninety percent, because the ten percent says I am not fully, completely trusting this chair—just in case it won’t do it, I want this rope. And you are not going to Heaven until you fully, completely, unreservedly, wholeheartedly trust Jesus Christ to get you to Heaven. Set out to be the best Christian you can be. Be baptized as the first act of obedience after salvation. Join a Bible-believing church where you can serve God. Learn the Bible. Grow in grace. Become a witness and try to win your friends to Christ. Try to raise a good Christian family and be a good example. I hope, if you have trusted Christ, you will make up your mind about these other things. I hope, if you have never really trusted Him completely, that you will throw yourself on Him this morning and say in the words of the songwriter: My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But wholly lean on Jesus’ name. On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand. Editor Urges You to Be Sure You Are Saved God has given us the written Word as the basis of our assurance of salvation. And Dr. Hutson has quoted many Scriptures showing how one may know he is saved. Salvation is a free gift, and all one can do is receive it. Our only hope of Heaven is the promise God has given us in His Word: “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life” (John 3:36). If you will trust Christ as Saviour—that is, believe on Him—you can know you have everlasting life because God says so. What does it mean to believe on Christ? It means to trust, to put one’s full confidence in Jesus and rest in Him for salvation. There is no promise in the Bible to those who partially believe on Jesus. One must fully trust Jesus and nothing else. He who is trusting Jesus plus his baptism is not fully trusting Jesus. One who trusts Jesus plus the sacraments is not fully trusting Jesus. One who is trusting Jesus plus his church membership, good life, morality, promises to do better, or anything else, is not fully trusting Jesus. It is Jesus, period. One should live as good as he possibly can, but he doesn’t go to Heaven because he lives good. He goes to Heaven because Jesus Christ paid his sin debt, and he trusts Christ as his Saviour. If you have never trusted Him, will you do so now? Romans 10:13 says, “Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” If you will trust Him, I suggest you pray this simple prayer: Dear Lord, I admit I’m a sinner. I do believe You died for me and arose from the grave to be my Saviour. I do right now trust You to forgive my sin and save me. From this moment, I am fully depending on You to take me to Heaven when I die. Thank You for paying my sin debt and receiving me as Your child. Amen. Dailey and the Washington D.C.-based Family Research Council recently confirmed what police and psychiatrists have known for decades: a definitive link exists between male homosexuality and pedophilia. The report entitled Homosexuality and Child Sexual Abuse, shows that while homosexual men make up less than three per cent of the adult male population, they commit a disproportionate number (one third or more) of child sexual molestations. Dailey's report is being sent to parents, youth groups, school administrators, Catholic bishops, and religious organizations. Homosexuality and Child Sexual Abuse presents a number of controversial findings. The first is that a significant percentage of child sexual abuse victims are boys. The second finding of Dailey's report contradicts the "inaccurate but widely accepted claims of sex researcher Alfred Kinsey" that homosexuals comprise at least 10 per cent of the population. Based upon a study of three large data sets, the General Social Survey, the National Health and Social Life Survey, and the U.S. Census, "a recent study in demography estimates the number of exclusive male homosexuals in the general population at 2.5 per cent, and the number of exclusive lesbians at 1.4 per cent," writes Dailey. The FRC study also demonstrates, with a wealth of anecdotal evidence, that pedophile themes can be found throughout "mainstream" gay literature, including fiction anthologies such as: The Penguin Book on International Gay Writing, The Gay Canon: What Every Gay Man Should Read, and A History of Gay Literature: The Male Tradition. Interestingly, the late gay Beat poet Allen Ginsberg was a pedophile, and wrote articles for publications associated with the North American Man-Boy Love Association. Few people realize that 95% of the earth's mass is molten rock. It is a FACT that the center of the earth is a smoldering abyss of lava, sulfuric (brimstone) to be exact. We are WARNED in Revelation 21:8 that the Lake of Fire will burn with FIRE and Brimstone (sulfur)... "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death." —Revelation 21:8 When Korah and his followers rebelled against the Lord, He opened up the earth and swallowed them alive into the jaws of hell... "And the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up together with Korah, when that company died, what time the fire devoured two hundred and fifty men: and they became a sign." —Numbers 26:10 The Bible always makes reference to hell being located “down,” never up (Heaven is always up). "For a fire is kindled in mine anger, and shall burn unto the lowest hell, and shall consume the earth with her increase, and set on fire the foundations of the mountains." —Deuteronomy 32:22 "Let death seize upon them, and let them go down quick into hell: for wickedness is in their dwellings, and among them." —Psalm 55:15 "Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit." —Isaiah 14:15 "And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down to hell." —Luke 10:15 "For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell..." —2nd Peter 2:4 The bottom line is that you don't want to go to hell, regardless of where it is located. Please read, Hell Inside the Earth. Hell and the Lake of Fire The Bible often mentions "death" and "hell" together... "And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." —Revelation 20:13-15 The “dead” which are being delivered are ALL the Christ-rejecters throughout history. Every human being who fails to obey the Gospel of Christ will go to Hell (2nd Thessalonians 1:8). Hell (Hades) is like a jail cell, where the guilty temporarily await sentencing in court (2nd Peter 2:4). After being sentenced at the Great White Throne of Judgment (where all the world's unsaved will stand trial), the wicked will be PUNISHED in the Lake of Fire (Greek: Gehenna) for all eternity. “...punished with everlasting destruction...” (2nd Thessalonians 1:9). As read in the above Scriptures, the Bible teaches that "hell" will be cast into the Lake of Fire. "Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels" —Matthew 25:41. Notice the word “cursed.” Only cursed people go to hell. To die in one's sin without the Lord is to be cursed forever. It's so simple to be saved, yet the wicked flaunt their pride and wicked unbelief. If only people would believe the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, they would be forgiven and saved. “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.” (1st Timothy 2:4). Those who die in their sins will suffer EVERLASTING FIRE! (Matthew 25:41). The important thing is that you don't end up there. Religion is man trying to reach God through human effort; but Christianity is God trying to reach man by the sacrifice of His only begotten Son on the cross. If your friends are in Hell when you get there—you won't be partying together, holding hands and singing campfire songs. You'll be tormented day-and-night forever (Revelation 14:11)! Hell is NOT the Grave Psalm 9:17 reads... “The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.” If the word "hell" in the Old Testament Hebrew (Sheol) only refers to the grave, then where do the righteous go? Psalm 9:17 would make absolutely no sense if BOTH the wicked and the righteous go to the same grave. God said that the wicked go to hell. If the righteous also go to hell, then Psalm 9:17 is nonsense. The truth is that "hell" (Sheol) in the Old Testament was a very broad term. Death was a big mystery back in the Old Testament. Today, we have the complete Word of God and have a much greater understanding of spiritual truths. "Hell" in the Old Testament referred to the UNKNOWN GRAVE. Sometimes "Sheol" (hell) simply meant grave, at other times it meant hell fire. All Sheol referred to in the Old Testament was to the realm of the unknown. The obvious implication in Psalm 9:17 is that the wicked will be PUNISHED. My friend, take a look at the above picture of the man buried 6-feet-deep in the earth. When you pass from this earthly life into eternity, your eternal destiny will be sealed forever. While you are still alive and breathing you have a choice. YOU HAVE A CHOICE! You can foolishly trust in yourself, or some sinful Catholic priest, or a sinful Lutheran minister, or your church, or your denomination, or the baptistry, or your good works, or yourself; or you can completely rest in the Gospel (good news) of Jesus Christ, Who died on a cross for your sins and mine, was buried, and then resurrected from the dead after three days for our justification. Jesus bodily ascended into Heaven and literally sprinkled His liquid blood upon the Mercy Seat in the presence of God the Father on our behalf (Hebrews 9:12,24; 12:24; 1st Peter 1:18-19). Hell Burns with Fire! We know that HELL HAS FIRE because Jesus Himself said it does... "if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched." —Mark 9:47-48 Jesus clearly said in John 14:2 that he wouldn't mislead us... “In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you...” Jesus said what He meant and meant what He said. Jesus referred to hell as a place of fire, torment, brimstone, weeping, wailing, gnashing of teeth, and everlasting punishment. Only a complete fool would try to discredit the plain teachings of the Word of God... HELL BURNS WITH FIRE! If God allows suffering and torment in this earthly world, then what makes you think that He won't allow suffering and torment for the wicked in eternity? Present suffering is evidence of future suffering if you die in your sins without Jesus Christ. "Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:" —Matthew 25:41 Although different aspects of Hell and the Lake of Fire can be debated, one Biblical TRUTH is certain, beyond any shadow of a doubt, that is, those who die in their sins will be punished in EVERLASTING FIRE! THE SAD FACTS: 1 out of every 67 deaths in the WORLD is an American abortion. 1 out every 4 deaths in America is an American abortion. Half of the deaths in the world are from abortions. Abortion is the leading cause of death in the world. It kills as many people as ALL of the other causes of death combined. In America's mentally-ill society, people are going naked. We've got plenty of religion these days, but America needs Jesus Christ. People don't care anymore because their hearts are not right with God. As Christians we must look beyond the words and actions of people and consider what is going on in their heart. If Terri had been a terrorist, mass-murderer or dog, she would have been protected by law against such insane cruelty. Terri's crime was simply being unable to feed herself, and so some mentally-ill judge sentenced her to death. Her family offered to freely take care of Terri in their own home, at no cost to anyone except themselves; yet, our insane American society said, “Crucify her!,” and they did. I was in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 2008 to see a surgeon about my neck. While there I visited the Marriott hotel to hear some Hawaiian steel guitar. At the end of the performance, everybody began to sing GOD BLESS AMERICA. I was the only one not singing. I noticed a few people giving me dirty looks. I just couldn't sing the song and mean it, for I would have been a partaker of a mentally-ill society that actually expects God to bless this sinful, wicked, filthy, sicko, society that murders it's children; idolizes pornographers like Paris Hilton; allows homosexuals to get married and adopt children; takes God's name in vain in nearly every Hollywood movie produced; and even names one of its biggest cities “SIN CITY!” God bless America? I'm actually wondering if Steven Spielberg has ever made any movies that don't use God's name in vain—Independence Day, Jurassic Park, Deep Impact, Jaws... all curse in God's name. He is a victim of other people in society. He battles the past and hurtful experiences in childhood. He is sick. Man: He is responsible for his sin. Yet, man wants to shift the blame to God, others, or Satan as Adam and Eve did. See: Genesis 3:12-13, Ezekiel 18:20, Galatians 6:5, Proverbs 9:12. Source of his problem: He struggles between his normal desires (id) and his conscience (superego), which his overly strict (mother/church) has created. He represses this deep inner struggle over what he feels and what society says is right. This man is poorly socialized. Source of his problem: Man is a sinner by nature and seeks to live selfishly to fulfill the lusts of his flesh and mind. Man is dead spiritually. See: Romans 5:12, Ephesians 2:1-3. Treatment: He must be taken back into his past to relive it through hypnosis, dream analysis and free association. This will allow the counselor to restructure the counselee's value system and relieve his conscience. He is now re-socialized. Treatment: Man only needs to be saved to experience this transforming power of God. This redemption is God's treatment for the root problems of man. See: Titus 2:11-3:5. Man can't change his past. He must stop looking back, and re-focus his attention on the present. Forgive and reconcile with others today. CARL ROGERS Man: Man is not a sinner, he is essentially good, he has all the resources he needs within himself to solve his own problems. Man: He is essentially sinful, selfish, and corrupt. He cannot save himself or solve his moral problems apart from obedience to God and His Word. See: Proverbs 30:12, Romans 3:10-13 Source of his problems: Man has failed to realize his full potential as a human being. He hasn't done what he personally values most. He doesn't see his personal worth and has little or no self-esteem. Source of his problems: Man has failed to come to Jesus Christ that he might have real life. See: John 5:40. Man has not esteemed Jesus to have any worth or meaning for his life, and so loses all meaning and purpose for his own existence. This was Solomon's perception after he had departed from the Lord. See: Ecclesiastes 2:1-23. Treatment: The client must solve his own problems. The counselor repeats and restates the client's feelings and thoughts to help him find his own answers. The counselor never tells the clients what is right or wrong or what to do. Treatment: A man must be born again and be obedient to the Word of God to find solutions to his problems. He must follow what God tells him to do. Man's values and morals must be reconstructed according to and in harmony with God's values and morals (Isaiah 55:6-9) (Mark 1:15). B.F. SKINNER Man: Man is just an animal. He is conditioned to act the way he does. He is a product of his environment and not responsible for his behavior. Man: Man has been created in the image and likeness of God. He has the mental, moral, and spiritual capacity for fellowship with God. He has the capacity for obedience by choice to follow the will of God. He also was created to have dominion over the animals. See: Genesis 1:26-27, 2:15-20. Source of his problems: He has not been trained properly. His behavior is conditioned by his bad environment. Source of his problems: He is controlled by sin and fallen short of the glory of God. See: Romans 7:14-18, Romans 3:23. Man's sinful nature is the fundamental reason for his bad behavior. Treatment: Man must be retrained. His environment must be rearranged to reprogram his responses through rewards and punishments. Treatment: Same as above, he must be born again. He must receive a new nature to enable him to live a new way because his environment will remain the same until Christ comes again. NEW AGE MYSTICISM Man: He is a spiritual being; that is, a god in his own universe. Man: He is a spiritual being created by God, yet he is not a god. He will die like all other created beings. See: Psalms 49:12, 103:14-16 Source of his problems: He is not in touch with his true godhood. He has relied on objective truth and not his experience. Source of his problems: He has failed to acknowledge his sin and his need for a Savior. He has rejected the objective truth of God's Word. See: Luke 18:9-13, Romans 1:25. Treatment: Reject the objective truth of the Bible. See that all religions are one. Realize your true potential as a god. Your experience is all important. Treatment: Acknowledge your sin and receive Jesus Christ as the Way, Truth, and Life. See: John 14:6. Man must bring his feelings, thoughts, and experience into obedience to the objective truth of God's Word. I. Is There Any Truth in Secular Psychology? Yes! This is why psychology is so widely accepted in the world today. Psychologists can make valid observations of human behavior. Yet it is their interpretation and application of these observations that many times are not Biblical and result in ungodly counsel. They have observed certain truths about man, but these truths are distorted because of man's rebellion against God. A. Is there any truth to Freud's teaching? Yes. 1. People do have great influence upon our lives, for good and evil (1 Cor. 15:33) (Prov. 12:26). Yet, they are not to blame for my life today. 2. People do struggle with their conscience (1 Tim. 1:5) (1 Tim. 1:18-19). Yet their conscience can be cleansed by the blood of Christ, not hypnosis. B. Is there any truth in Rogers' teaching? Yes. 1. He wanted people to make responsible personal decisions (Rom. 14:5). Yet, these choices must be in harmony with God's Word. 2. Counselors must be good listeners (Prov. 18:13). Yet they also must teach and encourage to action. C. Is there any truth in Skinner's teaching? Yes. 1. Changing your environment does help to change you (Prov. 5:8) (Prov. 22:24-25). Yet, you also need a change of nature. 2. Rewards and punishment of behavior is Biblical (Matt. 6:4) (Matt. 7:1-2). Yet again, man needs a change of nature to fully change his behavior. II. Why Can't You Mix Secular Psychology with Biblical Truth? A. You cannot do this because the basic beliefs about man are contradictory to Biblical truth. Freud says that man is not responsible, he is sick. Rogers says man is not a sinner, but essentially good. Skinner says man is just an animal with a bad environment. These beliefs will translate into contradictory counsel. B. If you did try to mix these human beliefs with divine truth, you would be adding to or undermining some Biblical truth. C. Personal Soul Winning (How to do it) Value and Importance of Personal Work "One of the two which heard John speak, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother. He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith. unto him, We have found the Messias, .which is, being interpreted, the Christ. And he brought him to Jesus .... The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me .... Philip findeth Nathanaeel, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth ...." -- John 1:40-43, 45. "And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." -- Mark 16:15. THE WINNING of individuals by individuals in personal conversation is the main way to win souls. The New Testament type of Christianity has been so perverted and misshapen that now people generally consider Christian work to be primarily done in a church house, in formal services, conducted by preachers. The simple truth is that in New Testament times there were no church houses (not a single one mentioned in the New Testament). The public meetings were informal and more or less incidental to the main work of carrying the Gospel all over town, yes, all over the world, speaking to individuals. Seminary professors and others without much practical experience sometimes discuss the relative merits of personal soul winning and mass evangelism. The truth is that they are essential parts of the same thing. The right kind of gospel preaching sends Christians out to win souls, and bombards the hearts of sinners, dynamites the hard ground, and arouses the conscience, and makes a climate for personal soul winning. And the personal soul winning is best done, always, where there is plain Bible preaching, evangelistic preaching. No man who is against mass evangelism is ever a very good personal soul winner, and the greatest soul winners have been the best advocates of mass evangelism. Who ever did better personal soul-winning work than D. L. Moody and R. A. Torrey? And who ever developed personal soul winners like these great evangelists and other evangelists? In an evangelistic ministry of nearly forty years, and having seen tens of thousands of people come to Christ, I can say that personal contact, personal invitation, had a part in winning nine out of ten of all those I have seen come to Christ. The best gospel preaching and the best personal soulwinning effort go together. It is good to preach to great crowds the Gospel of Jesus Christ. But the simple truth is that many a lost sinner will never come to hear a sermon unless some Christian brings him, will not respond to the invitation unless some Christian encourages him to go forward and claim Christ, and would not know how to trust Christ and have the assurance of salvation if some personal worker did not show him from the Scriptures. D. L. Moody said that if he had to win one thousand souls in order to make sure of Heaven himself, he would certainly choose to risk it by personal soul winning without public preaching rather than to attempt it by public preaching without personal soul winning. Dr. Charles G. Trumbull, long-time editor of The Sunday School Times, after many years as editor of a magazine with an average circulation of a hundred thousand copies, after preaching for many years to good crowds, said that he felt sure he had won more souls to Christ in personal conversation than all those saved through his influence in other ways. I am saying that personal soul-winning effort with individuals is the main way to win souls. I. The Winning of Individuals by Individuals Is the Way Most Clearly Commanded in the Bible Let us examine the marching orders which Jesus Christ left for Christians, His "Great Commission" left to churches and individuals. Consider Mark 1.6:15, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." We generally think of "preaching the Gospel" as preaching a sermon to a crowd. But a little examination of this Scripture will show that that is not the principal meaning of the Great Commission. We read that Great Commission as if it read, "Go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel in every church auditorium and to every congregation." But the Great Commission does not mention any auditorium and it does not mention congregations. No, the Lord Jesus here is talking about individuals. We are to preach the Gospel "to every creature," that is, to every individual. Christ did not die for congregations; He died for individuals. The Great Commission is not to preach the Gospel to congregations, but to individuals. I freely grant that it is a blessed thing to preach the Gospel to as many as we can, whether a Sunday School teacher talks to ten, or a preacher preaches to fifty in a rescue mission, or to a thousand in a great congregation, or to a million in a radio broadcast. But the only way that a group or congregation fulfills the Great Commission requirement is that in the Sunday School class, or in the rescue mission, or in the church congregation, or in the radio audience are poor lost individuals who need to hear the Gospel. And every preacher ought to remember that he is not preaching to a crowd, but to individuals. I think we preachers often have a wrong conception of the ministry to which we are called. We say, "God has called me to preach," by which we generally mean He has called us to prepare a sermon with a good outline and Bible truth and an exposition of Scriptures, and to preach this in a public address or sermon to a congregation. Now the call to preach may include preaching to a congregation, but that is not the primary meaning of the word as Jesus used it in the Great Commission. Actually we preachers are called to keep people out of Hell. We are called to get the Gospel to individuals. A preacher is doing exactly what Jesus commanded in the Great Commission when he talks to one poor sinner in his home, or on the street, or in the shop. And I say it with deep concern, I doubt if most of us preachers who preach formal sermons to congregations are really "preaching the Gospel to every creature" in the sense in which Jesus meant it. We are not called to preach sermons primarily. We are called to keep sinners out of Hell. In some cases sermons will help to do that. In other cases the individual contact is the only way we can get people saved. How to Do It: Practical Help "And the Lord said unto the servant, Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled." -- Luke 14:23. MANY PEOPLE would like to win souls, but they have no practical knowledge of how to go about it. In a city-wide revival campaign one pastor who co-operated in the meeting, who believed the Bible and seemed in real sympathy with the preaching and objectives, wanted to win souls. But when I suggested that he go into the inquiry room to take the Bible and make clear to people how they could be sure they were saved, he shrank from it and plainly said he would not know how to go about it. So that he could have some part in the salvation of sinners, I had him stand by me, and when converts came forward, he led them to the inquiry room and came back for more. But it was pitiful to see a preacher who had no practical understanding of how to deal with people in soul winning. On another occasion I was in a revival service in a large Canadian church. A good many people came forward to take Christ as Saviour and I dealt with each one briefly as they came to take my hand at the pulpit. But then these new converts and the wayward Christians who were rededicating their lives went into an inquiry room for further instruction, and the assistant pastor was sent by the pastor into the inquiry room to make certain that these converts had really trusted Christ and knew their sins were forgiven. A little later when I went into the inquiry room to help and to check up, I found the assistant pastor, a college graduate and seminary graduate, going into great detail in a theological discussion on the fall of man, Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, while the bewildered converts sat patiently listening to his harangue. He was a good man. He was fundamental in doctrine. But he knew nothing about how to deal with souls. Here I want to make some practical suggestions about the soul winner's person, personality, and plans for showing lost sinners that they need to be saved, showing them how to be saved, and getting them to claim the Saviour. I. The Preliminaries of Soul Winning We make here some brief suggestions that have proved helpful as people plan to win souls. 1. Pray earnestly before you go. Pray for God to guide you where to go and what to say. Pray particularly for the power of the Holy Spirit upon you. Remember, soul winning is a supernatural business and no one can do it without supernatural help. 2. When going among strangers, and from house to house particularly, it is often wise to go two by two. It was so when the Lord Jesus sent the apostles and the seventy. One paralytic man was "borne of four" to the Saviour. Usually, in dealing with one particular person, one person should do the talking while the other tries to see that there is no interruption. Sometimes he will play with the children or answer the doorbell or telephone. The fact that he is there will give courage and moral support to the worker who is speaking and will add weight to his testimony. Perhaps in the next visit the silent partner should take over. But to interrupt and both try to speak at the same time generally leads to a discussion and sometimes to argument that is not helpful. One person should do the talking, as a general rule. 3. Dr. Jack Hyles, in the little book, HOW TO BOOST YOUR CHURCH ATTENDANCE, says: "Be clean and neat." If a person is going to be a soul winner he must not be offensive to the people with whom he talks. It is a definite asset for a soul winner to be careful to bathe often, to avoid body odor. Teeth should be brushed, and breath should be tested. Carry mints in your pockets or some good flavored chewing gum which will help keep the breath from being offensive. One of the most damaging things in soul winning is the effect of halitosis. By all means, a soul winner should watch this carefully. The soul winner should also be neatly dressed. A lady should be dressed conservatively, and I think it is best for a man to at least wear a shirt with a tie. A good salesman tries to avoid baggy pants, dandruff, or an unshaven face. The soul winner ought to look like a respectable, trustworthy lady or gentleman. 4. The soul winner should always have his New Testament with him. Of course, the personal soul winner would expect to use the Bible, but a large and cumbersome Bible may frighten the people at whose door you stand. A New Testament in your pocket is unobtrusive, readily available, and usually all you will need in winning a soul. Generally it will be best to hold the Bible so that the one with whom you deal can read it easily. Point your finger to the verse as you read it to him, or sometimes you may ask him to read it. But Christians should avoid trying to make a big show of being religious. You do not come to appear like a preacher but as a Christian friend to do the man a favor. Sometimes the Scriptures you want to use may be available in a tract, but it will be more impressive if you show the one with whom you deal the verses in the New Testament. 5. Be pleasant, considerate, courteous. Don't be bossy. This is simply another way of saying that there ought to be a genuine, warm love in your heart for sinners, a compassion, a sympathetic understanding of people, and a liking for people. I have known people to try to win souls who did not even shake hands, who did not say even a pleasant "good morning." Sometimes people try to win a soul when they do not even know the man's full name, whether he is married, whether he has any children, where he works. I think that I was able to win a Catholic woman in Norfolk, Virginia, largely because I was attracted to her little three-year-old girl and made friends with the little one and took her in my arms. In Texas I won a hardened sinner because I came to see his new baby and was interested in the baby. One must love sinners and show it, be interested in what they are interested in. An Orthodox Jewish man kept me for two hours when he found that I talked with real interest to him about the Passover, about the dietary laws of Leviticus, about the offerings and priesthood of the New Testament and the meaning of circumcision. Sometimes because of company or a date or pressing duty, the one on whom you call cannot spend much time with you. Be kind. You might ask, "Could I come back to see you this afternoon?" or "If you like; I will call another time." 6. Stay on the main track. You come to talk to people about sin and the Saviour. I know one man who went out on visitation hoping to win souls, and he argued with a man for nearly an hour about the tobacco habit. Someone intended to call on some Catholics in an effort to win them to Christ, and asked me for literature proving that the mass was wrong, that the popes were not all good men, and literature to show that the papal infallibility was a false doctrine! When I talk to a Catholic, I never start out to show that Protestants are right and Catholics are wrong. Instead, when I speak to a man about his soul and he says, "Well, I am a Roman Catholic," I frequently say, "Yes, and it happens that I am a Baptist. But I know that many, many Baptists are not good Christians and I am sure you know some Catholics who are not good Christians." I suppose every Catholic will assent to that. Then I sometimes say, "Well, it is clear, then, that to be a member of a church, whether my church or your church or any other church, is not enough unless one is right with God in his heart." And every sensible person surely would agree to that. I have never had it challenged. Then I say, "Well, the important thing is whether or not you know your sins are forgiven, whether you have come to Christ and trusted Him personally and have assurance that He is your own personal Saviour." The simple truth is that one may be a Catholic and be saved (I fear that most Roman Catholics are not, but that is not the point). The important thing is not to deal with the differences between Catholics and Protesants, and not to show anybody that their convictions and rearing and traditions are wrong; the important thing is to bring every sinner to face the fact that he is a sinner who needs forgiveness, and to show him that Christ is ready to save him. I never say, "You are a sinner." Instead I say, "Of course, you know that we are all poor sinners, and Christ died to save sinners like you and me." In the first place, it is true that I needed the same Saviour as others do. It is also the courteous and considerate way to state the matter. Somebody says, "How shall I deal with a Jew?" Deal with him like a sinner; you and he both need the same Saviour, and so with loving and considerate heart you can tell him that you know the way one can have his sins forgiven and have peace in heart, and you would like, if he will allow you, to show him from the Scriptures how he can know. Stay on the main line. Don't argue about eternal security, about holiness, about the Second Coming, or worldly amusements, or habits. Don't argue over denominational differences. Keep the conversation on the simple plane that all of us, therefore including the friend to whom you are speaking, are sinners and need the Saviour, and show him that by the Scriptures. Stay on the main track. 7. The soul winner should largely control the conversation. Dr. Jack Hyles suggests that if the person with whom you are dealing brings in some other subject, asks questions as to where Cain got his wife or why God allows war or why there are so many denominations or about hypocrites in the church, you say something like this: "That is a good question. Remind me after a little bit and I will try to answer it, but first, let me tell you this ...." An unsaved woman who talked to D. L. Moody insisted that she saw no harm in the theater and the dance. D. L. Moody wisely said, "I promise to answer that to your satisfaction if you will first trust Christ as your Saviour." After she trusted Christ, she found the problem already solved in her heart. You are dealing with the most important subject in the world. You should have planned ahead of time some simple steps. I beg you, try to control the conversation and lead through the matter of the guilt of sin, the free salvation paid for by Jesus Christ, and the fact that this salvation may be had at once by personal faith in Christ. Then press for a decision. II. Simple Steps in Winning a Soul Using John, Chapter Three It is easy to show the plan of salvation. One simple, easy way to win a soul to Christ is by using certain verses in John,. chapter 3. The book of John is specially written to show people how to be saved. John 20:30, 31 says: "And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name." So there are more verses on the plan of salvation in the book of John than in any other book in the Bible. But one need not use many Scriptures nor go all through the Bible in winning a soul. In most cases a few verses near each other are sufficient. Do not make a hard job of showing that people are sinners, that they need to be saved, that Christ died for them, that one who trusts Christ will have everlasting life. Sometimes, indeed, the one you seek to win knows the essentials and simply needs to be urged to the decision to trust Christ here and now. In John, chapter 3, Jesus showed Nicodemus, a religious, moral man, that he was lost and needed to be saved, and showed him how to be saved. I suggest that you now look at John, chapter 3, and learn to use these simple steps in winning a soul. 1. Read verses 1 to 3. "There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." Now I would call attention to the fact that this man was a good moral man, one of the religious leaders and rulers of the Jews, evidently a member of the Sanhedrin. He is called a Pharisee, and Pharisees were the strictest religious sect among the Jews. And to this man, moral and religious and upright, Jesus plainly said, "Ye must be born again." 2. Now it is well to call attention to the insistent warning Jesus gives, that being born again, born from above, is an absolute necessity. Verse 3 says, "...Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." This refers not just to Nicodemus; no person can see the kingdom of God without being born again. In verse 5 Jesus said, "...Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." The water here evidently pictures the Word of God. "Born of the Spirit" means that the change must be worked in the heart by the Holy Spirit after one hears the Word. In verse 7 Jesus said, "Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again." Jesus did not say that one merely ought to be born again, or that it would be wise for him to be born again. He said, "Ye must be born again." 3. Then call attention to verse 6: "That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit." You might say to the sinner, "Perhaps you had a wonderfully good mother, as I did, and a good father by human standards. But our parents were human and frail and imperfect, and so we were born the same way. The reason we need to be born again is because we were born with a fallen nature in the first place, and so any fleshly birth then still means we must be born again to ever see God in peace." It is well here for you to stress that we are all sinners. Get the sinner to admit that he is not perfect, that he has fallen short in God's sight, that often when he means to do well, he does not do right, that when he makes resolutions, he sometimes breaks them. Do not leave the impression, "I am good and you are bad." No, make sure that you take the sympathetic, honest position that we are all sinners alike and need forgiveness alike, and that unless we come to get a new heart, there is no hope of Heaven. 4. Now, if the thing is not clear, it might be well to call attention to verse 8: "The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell were it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit." How will one feel when he is born again? The Bible does not say. It is God who works the miracle of the new birth, and we do not need to understand it, but should simply turn the matter over to God to do for us what we cannot do for ourselves. 5. And now you are ready for verses 14 and 15. Jesus reminded Nicodemus that when the Israelites complained at God, fiery serpents came among the people and bit the people and much people died. But God told Moses to put a brazen snake on a pole and whoever looked to that brass snake would be healed. So Jesus told Nicodemus: "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life." That snake on a pole pictured Jesus bearing our sins on the cross. Those people looked at the brass snake and believed that God would heal them by looking, and so they were healed. 6. Now follow with John 3:16: "Far God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." Now the soul winner can say, "Here God tells you expressly how to be born again. Do you admit that you are a sinner, that you need a new heart, that you want forgiveness? And you can see that God loves you. He gave His Son to die for you and for me and the whole world. Now 'whosoever,' anyone in the world -- you, me, anybody -- that believes in Christ or depends upon Christ or relies upon Christ for forgiveness and salvation will not perish, will not go to Hell, will not be lost forever, but he shall have 'everlasting life.'" You might illustrate faith by showing how a sick person relies upon the doctor and turns the case over to the doctor. Believing good things about the doctor does not do one any good unless he turns his case over to the doctor and risks him. One who has a lot of money and feels insecure about it takes it to the bank and deposits it. He trusts his money with the bank for safekeeping. He relies upon the bank because the bank has promised to keep it safely for him and is able to do it. Just so one needs to turn himself over to Jesus Christ, relying on Him, depending upon Him for salvation. One who trusts in Christ or relies upon Christ for salvation has everlasting life, according to the plain promise here. 7. Now I would go over that again with the sinner. "Do you understand that you are a sinner?" Doubtless he will say yes. "Do you believe that Christ died for your sins and mine on the cross, and wants to save you?" Doubtless he will say yes, that he understands that. Next, "Do you see, then, that if you rely upon Jesus Christ and turn your case over to Him, depending on Him to forgive you and give you everlasting life as He promised, that is all you are to do to obtain salvation?" Then you might say, "Then let us bow our heads and I will whisper a prayer and ask the Lord Jesus to forgive you and save you now." And then you may pray, and ask him if he will. After you pray a very simple, short prayer, then you might suggest words of suitable prayer for him. You might say, "Can you honestly repeat the words of this prayer as I give them to you? 'Lord, I confess that I am a poor sinner who needs saving.'" Let him repeat that. "I believe, Lord Jesus, that You died on the cross to pay for our sins and that You are willing to save me." And have him repeat that. "Lord Jesus, I ask You now to forgive my sins and save me." And have him repeat that. "Lord, the best I know I trust You now to forgive my sins; I give You my heart forever." Then ask him if he can repeat that. I do not believe one must pray aloud in order to be saved. Sometimes a timid person will pray silently. One is saved when he turns to the Lord and trusts the Lord. But sometimes the matter is much clearer in the mind of a sinner and the transaction is remembered as a definite transaction if he can express his faith in the words of a prayer. Besides, if he asks the Lord to forgive, then he always has extra promises like Romans 10:13, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved," as an evidence that he has really been saved. 8. Once the person has asked Christ to forgive him and save him, I suggest that there be some open demonstration of his decision. I would say, "Now you have asked Jesus Christ to forgive your sins and save you. If you are ready to turn your case over to Him, ready to rely on Him to forgive your sins and save you as He promised to do, will you now take my hand and let this handshake be a sign between you and me and God that you now trust Christ as your own personal Saviour and give Him your heart forever? Will you do that?" If the sinner has been honest thus far, in most cases he will be ready to make that open profession of his faith in Christ. If a loved one is present who is already a Christian or if another worker is present, it is good for him to shake hands also with them. Sometimes if it is a child who has been saved and the mother or father is present, I might say, "isn't that wonderful! Now you have trusted Christ as your Saviour. If you are glad and you want your mother to be glad with you, come and put your arms around Mother's neck as a sign that you have taken Christ as your Saviour." Sometimes it is well to say, "The pastor is nearby; suppose we go and tell him that you have trusted Christ as your Saviour." Or it may be the mother or father or a wife or husband. At any rate, it is good for the one who has trusted Christ to commit himself as openly as possible. There is a special blessing for those who confess Christ openly, and assurance and joy often wait upon that public confession of Christ. 9. Now before you leave the person, there is one more thing that is important. The new convert ought to be assured by the Word of God that he now has everlasting life. So, often I turn to verse 18 in the same chapter of John and have the one who has now trusted Christ look on and read with me: "He that believeth on him is not condemned .... " Now you can say to the one who has trusted Christ, "Here we see that one who has trusted in Christ and relied on Him is not condemned, is not lost, is not going to Hell. Have you trusted Christ?" Usually he will say yes. "Then, since you have believed on Him and relied upon Him, are you condemned ?" And he can say, on the authority of the Scriptures, "No, I am not condemned anymore!" Then show him John 3:36: "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life." And again you may ask him, "Have you now trusted Christ or believed on Christ as your Saviour the best you know how, relying on Him to forgive you?" And he, of course, can answer yes. "Then what does the Bible say that you now have?" Have him look on the verse with you. Have him see for himself and then he can say, "The Bible says I have everlasting life!" And then you can say, "Now the way to know that you are saved is not because you feel a certain way, but because the Bible says that when you trust Christ you have everlasting life." You may put step nine before having the new convert go to tell others that he has trusted Christ, if that seems wise. This plan is simple; all the Scriptures are found in one chapter in the Bible, and God has helped me to win hundreds of souls from this chapter. And sometimes people are so ready that just on John 3:16 alone the matter of salvation can be made so clear that they can trust Christ at once. III. How to Win a Soul to Christ With a Few Verses in the Book of Romans Dr. Jack Hyles has used this plan and taught it to hundreds of others so that thousands have been won to Christ through using the Scriptures here suggested. I believe that it may make Christ's substitutionary death for our sins clearer than using some other steps. I found this method particularly useful in India among heathen people who know almost nothing about the Christian religion. And here, in a few moments, you can use a few Scriptures that make clear the whole matter of man's sin, man's condemnation, Christ's substitutionary death, and being justified by faith. First, Dr. Hyles says, "Make a map in your New Testament." Start with Romans 3:10 and on the margin by it in pencil, write 3:23, so that you have before you the next verse to turn to. By Romans 3:23, write 5:12 in the margin. Then by Romans 5:12, write 6:23. Then by Romans 6:23, write 5:8. Then in the margin by Romans 5:8, write 10:9-13. In starting to talk to the lost person about salvation, you might say, "The book of Romans has much to say about sin and salvation, and just a few verses here will make the whole matter clear as to why you need to be saved and how to be saved." Now you are ready to go through the Scriptures in order as you have them, stepping from one to another, following the map you have marked in your New Testament or Bible. 1. Have the one with whom you are dealing look at Romans 3:10. It is better to have him read it aloud if he will. "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one." It is fair to ask him then, "Is there anyone really righteous in God's sight?" Then you might say, "Then I must admit that I am not righteous, because 'there is none righteous, no, not one.'" Then you might explain, "Of course, men are relatively good men or bad men in the sight of other men and by human standards, but in the sight of God who sees the heart, we are all sinners alike; there is none righteous. Now may I ask you then, according to the Scripture, are you righteous in God's sight?" The person will see that he cannot honestly claim to be righteous in view of that verse. 2. Now the next step in your Testament is Romans 3:23. Have him read it with you or read it aloud: "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God." And then you can say, "Of course, I must admit that I, too, have sinned. So has everybody else sinned. Now, looking at this verse, don't you think that you, too, would have to say that you have sinned the same as everybody else has, and that you have come short of the glory of God?" An honest inquirer, of course, will have to say, "Yes, I have sinned, too." 3. The next step is Romans 5:12: "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned." Now is the time to make clear that sin came into the world when Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, and since that time everybody else is sinful, "So death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned." You can show the inquirer that that is why people die. And you can show him also that because of our sins, eternal death in the lake of fire is the proper judgment for all of us poor sinners. Sentence is already passed, the sentence of death on all men. I think there you might ask him, "Do you see then why all of us by nature are lost and need to be saved?" If he understands the Scripture, he will see that. 4. The next step is Romans 6:23: "For the wages of sin is death; but. the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Now you can show that "the wages of sin is death"; that is, the normal result of our sins is eternal death. That is wages we have earned. That is strict justice. It is what we ought to get. But you can show him that "the gift of God is eternal life." Everyone who goes to Heaven must get salvation as a free gift. We do not deserve it. You can show him that all who go to Hell are simply getting what they deserve; they are getting the wages of sin. All who go to Heaven have to go as a gift of God through Jesus Christ. 5. The next step is Romans 5:8: "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Here is a wonderful truth. As the sinner reads this Scripture, call his attention to the fact that because of His love for us, "while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." Somebody had to die for sin. Either I must die for my own sins or someone else who is worthy and sinless must die for me. So because of His great love, Jesus Christ died in my place and died in the sinner's place. So you might say to the sinner, "Do you see that here is a debt you deserve to pay, but Jesus has paid it for you?" You may show him that on the cross the Father turned His face away and Jesus suffered all the agonies of a lost soul. God counted Jesus a sinner and let Him suffer like a criminal, so that He could forgive my sins and count me righteous for Jesus' sake. Thus you can show the sinner that Christ's love made it so his sins were all paid for and now he can accept that free salvation if he will. It is already bought and paid for. 6. The next step is Romans 10:9: "That if thou shalt confess with thit mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved." Now that Christ has died in the sinner's place and paid the sinner's debt, then all that is left is for the sinner to claim what Christ offers him. Jesus says, "I have redeemed you. I have paid the debt of sin. Will you take the forgiveness and salvation I have purchased for you by My suffering?" And the poor sinner can either say yes or no. He can accept it or reject it. If one believes in his heart that God raised Jesus from the dead, that means he believes that Jesus is the Son of God, the perfect, sinless sacrifice, and since He is raised from the dead, that proves He is able to save us. Now if one claims with his mouth this Saviour, believing that He is God's own Son, the atoning Saviour, he "shalt be saved." Then show verse 10, "For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." It is in the heart where faith is, and the outward confession is simply an expression of what happened when the heart decided to trust in Jesus. Then you may dwell for a moment on verse 11: "For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed." One who trusts in Christ will never be left embarrassed and disappointed. When one trusts in Christ, He saves him. Now verse 13 will be clear: "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Why not then have this convert bow his head and tell the Lord, "Lord, I ask You now to forgive me. I now believe that You do forgive me. I trust You to be my Saviour. I want to live for You beginning today." Then you may show from verse 13 that he who has honestly called on the Lord is saved, and he can know it because the Bible says so. IV. Shorter Methods to Win Souls With Single Well-Known Passages of Scripture The above two plans of using the third chapter of John and of using the Scripture verses in Romans to win a soul are thorough, and often that much attention and Scripture is needed. On the other hand, many people are ready to be saved in a shorter time. The main thing is that the worker have a heart that is warm and led by the Spirit of God so that he does not do shallow, superficial work. The sinner should know that he is a sinner who needs forgiveness. He should know that Christ alone can save, and he should definitely trust Christ as Saviour, and then he should be taught to claim the Saviour openly and to know that his sins are forgiven. But the Bible is full of the plan of salvation. 1. When I was a university student, one summer I won sixty-six people using Isaiah 55:6 and 7. "Seek ye the Lord while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he wilt abundantly pardon." You will note that these verses indicate an urgency to settle the matter at once since tomorrow He may not be near. Then verse 7 stresses the fact of sin, the need for an honest repentance, a heart turning away from sin and turning to Christ. The unrighteous man is to give up his own thoughts or plans about how to be. saved and take what God says. And then there is the sweet promise that if he returns to the Lord, He will have mercy on him and will abundantly pardon. There is very sweetly and simply the plan of salvation. 2. Isaiah 53:6 also states the Gospel very simply. "All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all." It says that all of us have sinned and are lost. It says that the heart of sin is our self-will, our wanting our own way. It says that Jesus Christ has borne all of our sins. An English preacher had preached in one of the outlying towns and then rushed to the railway station to catch the train back to London. One man deeply convicted of his sins followed the preacher to the station and there said, "I want to get saved. Please tell me how." The last train for London for the night was about to leave. Heavy duties made it imperative for the preacher to go. So he said to the earnest inquirer, "Do you have a Bible?" "Yes," said the lost man, "but I do not know where to read." "Turn to Isaiah 53:6. Have you got it?" "Yes, Isaiah 53:6." "Then," said the preacher, "come in at the first 'all' and come out at the last 'all' and you will be saved." And he stepped on to the departing train. What a strange way to be saved, the lost man thought. But he went home, opened his Bible, and discovered that the first word in the verse is "all" -- "All we like sheep have gone astray." "Well, I can come in there, for I have gone astray; I am a sinner," the sinner said to himself. But then his instructions were to "come out at the last 'all.'" And the last word of the verse. is "all" -- "The Lord hath laid on him [on Jesus] the iniquity of us all." Then the sinner thought, "And I am one of those whose iniquities were laid on Jesus. My sins are paid for! Well, I will come out there, and so I will be saved!" 3. Many a sinner has been saved by the simple Gospel in Numbers 21:5-9. There is the clear illustration that all are sinners, and the death that comes by sin is illustrated by the fiery serpents. There is the clear picture of Jesus on the cross being counted the serpent, a sinner. And there is the illustration of faith so that every poisoned person who looked at the brazen snake on a pole was healed. So a sinner may be aught to took and live. 4. Thousands have been won to Christ by John 5:24. "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life." "He that heareth my word.,.." You can say to the sinner, "You have heard it many times and you are hearing it now, are you not, as we read this?" Of course the sinner will agree to that. "And believeth on him that sent me .... " So you can say to the sinner, "Do you believe that God loved the world and gave His Son to save sinners? Then are you willing to risk that God and that Saviour today, and turn your case over to Them and rely upon Them?" Then you can show the plain statement that one who thus believes and trusts "hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life." And that is a wonderful promise for assurance and certainty. 5. Many have been saved by the story of the publican and the Pharisee who went up into the temple to pray (Luke 18:10-14) The Pharisee, self-righteous, self-satisfied, was never saved. The poor publican who confessed his sinfulness and asked for mercy was saved and went down to his house justified. And so you might well ask the sinner to bow his head and make this prayer his prayer. You can teach him to pray, "God, be merciful to me a sinner, and save me for Jesus' sake." And then when he has prayed that prayer, you can ask him if he will here and now trust the Lord Jesus to do what He said He would do, and to manifest it either by taking your hand solemnly, or by going with you to tell the pastor or a friend, or by going forward in a public meeting. Whatever Scriptures you use, there are two or three things that must be involved. The sinner must know that he is a sinner, and wants to turn from sin and be forgiven. Then the sinner must know that God has promised to save those who trust in Christ, and he must be brought to personally trust Christ as his own Saviour. V. Certain Devices Are Helpful in Soul Winning In the case of the woman at Samaria in John, chapter 4, the Lord Jesus suggested, "Go, call thy husband." Thus He was led of the Spirit of God to bring out the fact that she had been married five times and was living in sin with a man to whom she was not married. In the case of the paralytic man borne of four given in Mark 2 and in the other Gospels, Jesus first said, "Son, thy sins be forgiven thee," and then as an evidence and assurance of forgiveness of sins He healed the man's body. He evidently used the shame or public disgrace to win the woman taken in adultery to whom He said, "Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more" (John 8:11). The spiritually-minded soul winner will find different devices to help illustrate the Gospel and to cause people to see that they are sinners and need salvation, and to give assurance of salvation when they trust the Saviour. 1. It is often wise to get the sinner to pray. We know, of course, that when the heart turns to Christ and trusts Him, one is saved, whether he consciously prays or not. But both public confession and prayer are used as the outward form or demonstration of faith. So "with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation," we read in Romans 10:10. The confession does not save, but it is a demonstration of saving faith. Likewise we are told in the same passage, verse 13, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." But the following verse plainly says, "How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed?..." So when one calls on the Lord for mercy and forgiveness, he will be saved, because in his heart he has already believed that there is such a Saviour, that Jesus does save people who call upon Him. An honest heart calling upon Christ for mercy and forgiveness and salvation is a believing heart. Thus it is a little simpler and easier for many people to take a definite step of faith when they call upon the Lord for forgiveness. The dying thief prayed and was saved (Luke 23:39-43). The publican in the temple prayed and was saved (Luke 18:13,14). Three times in the Bible, in Joel 2:32, in Acts 2:21, and in Romans 10:13, we are told that "whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." Thus the one who calls in connection with his faith is likely to have more assurance. He has something clear-cut that he can remember. He can honestly say to himself, "The best I knew, I called on Jesus to save me and trusted Him to do it." Even when one is in a crowd, or when the sinner is timid and may not like to pray aloud, you can say, "God knows what is in your heart now, does He not ? If you in your heart ask Him to forgive you and want Him to save you now, He will know it, will He not?" Of course, every sensible sinner will know that that is true. "Then," you may say, "I will whisper a prayer softly as we stand here together and I will ask Jesus to come into your heart, forgive your sin, and save you this moment. Now as I pray, will you down in your heart say, 'Yes, Lord Jesus, I admit I am a sinner, I want You to forgive me. Please save me now.'" It is wise to try to see that there is a definite transaction in a choice of the will, a holy decision to trust Christ and claim Him, when the sinner turns to Christ. 2. For a similar reason it is important that there should be some way for the sinner to make his decision known. Years ago in a great tabernacle service in Tulsa, Oklahoma, I preached on "The Banquet Invitation," the great supper to which many were bidden and many made excuses. I said, "Who here tonight will say, 'Brother Rice, I want to be at that great supper. Please tell the Lord Jesus that I accept His invitation and thank Him. If He will have me, I will be His and will be at that great supper'?" I asked the question more or less as a rhetorical question to bring decision in the mind. But a young man who had just gotten home from the Navy and was heartsick over sin jumped to his feet and said, "I will, Brother Rice! I will!" I most often use the simple device of saying to the sinner, "If you are ready to take Christ as your own Saviour, relying on Him to forgive you and give you everlasting life, then let me suggest the way you can show it. As a sign between you and your friend here and God and me, would you be willing to shake hands with me, meaning, 'Lord Jesus, here and now I take You to be my own personal Saviour'? If you will, grip my hand." And as I indicated before, it is wise to get the convert to tell someone else. 3. Sometimes it is wise to use an object lesson to make clear that our sins are all laid on Jesus. Sometimes you may select a weight, a stone, a book, and say, "Let this represent your sins. Now you hold this weight in your hands. Now all your sins are on you. Now suppose we put this weight over in the hands of this other man. Let him represent Jesus Christ. The Bible tells us that Christ has borne our sins. Jesus suffered in our place. Ho was the substitute for us. Now your sins are all laid on Jesus. Then they are not charged to you but charged to Jesus. Jesus died for them, and you are not to be judged for these sins anymore!" Or you can illustrate the matter this way. A man has been sick, out of work, and cannot pay his grocery bills, and they have mounted up until he is in disgrace. But a friend who loves him goes to the store and pays the bill. All the grocery bills are marked paid and turned over to him. Thus the poor man does not owe that debt anymore. 4. It is important to give assurance of salvation. When I was saved, no one showed me the Scriptures so I would know that I had everlasting life. I asked my father if I could join the church and he implied that I was not old enough, that I had not been saved, and he took the matter no further. Years later I asked another preacher to pray for me and he said, "All right, I will, John, and you pray for yourself." But the matter could have been settled in five minutes with the Word of God. After three miserable years I was reading through the Gospel of John and came to John 3:36: "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life .... " I said to myself, "Well, that is the only thing I know for sure that I did when I went forward to take Jesus." I saw that when I trusted Jesus, I got the whole thing settled. And I am not conscious that I have ever had a moment's doubt since that time that my sins are forgiven, that I am saved. VI. It Is Important to Follow Up the New Convert, Leading to Public Profession of Faith, Baptism, and Church Membership A few weeks ago my daughter was delivered at the hospital of a lovely baby boy, and the eight-pound, two-ounce boy was named for his proud grandfather, John Robert Rice, II. (His father is also a Rice.) But his parents did not leave the baby at the hospital! They brought him home and began elaborate care of the little fellow -- feeding, bathing, changing diapers. So when you have a soul born, do not leave the lamb for the wolves; do not leave the new convert without assurance of salvation and without leading him in the road for success and happiness in the Christian life. In the Great Commission the Lord Jesus said that when souls are saved, then we are to baptize them, "teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you." 1. First, arrange if possible for a public profession of faith. I would explain simply that one who is on the Lord's side ought to say so. He has been all this time before without Christ and on Satan's side, and now he should make known publicly his grand decision and the transaction by which he is made now a child of God. I would teach the new convert Matthew 10:32: "Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven." There is special joy in claiming Christ openly. And I would explain that that simply means that his decision ought to be made known in some simple way. The most logical way is for you to arrange to pick him up in your car or to meet him at some church service where he will be given an opportunity to come forward and let it be known that he is taking Christ as Saviour. You make the plans to take him to some such good Bible-preaching church. Sit by him in the services. Walk forward with him and tell the preacher, "My friend here has trusted Christ and wants you to know it and wants you to tell the people that he has been saved." 2. The new convert should be taught to be baptized. Jesus made much of this. It is in the Great Commission as expressed in Matthew 28:19 and 20, and in Mark 16:16. It was the universal practice of New Testament Christians that as soon as one was saved, he was taught to be baptized, often "the same hour of the night," as with the Philippian jailer and his family. And of course the young convert should be taught to attend some Bible-believing church where he will learn the Word of God and will find usefulness and fellowship. And he should be taught to start out to read his Bible through, reading daily, and to have a secret time of prayer every day and to get into soul-winning activities.
