It's Pro Tracks Tuesday today, so let's take the fight back to the toughest courses in the galaxy once more! Here marked my first attempts at the last addition to the Pro Tracks roster, Red Canyon 2. The iconic arrow jump gives way to some good opportunities to ruin other racers' days by either spin attacking them to the right so they hit the wall and force them to take the minefield, or spin attacking them into the wall on the left making them slow down enough to miss the arrow going off the jump and crash out. This week on a special Challenge edition of Sunday Longplay, Halloween is coming soon, so let's get into the spirit with a Castlevania challenge! I've played Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest on my channel many years ago, and I've played a ROM Hack called "The Three Mothers" more recently, but now let's do a self-imposed challenge for the game! This challenge is a combination of two different challenges from a RetroAchievements subset. The goal of this challenge is to get the Morning Star as your very first item, and then get Dracula's body parts in reverse order (Ring, Nail, Heart, Eyeball, Rib). Really, the hardest part of this challenge was getting across the river at the beginning. Once across there is a pair of lizardmen that you can easily and safely grind to get the hearts needed to buy the Morning Star. In theory I could have grinded them all the way to Level 5, but I didn't want to make it too easy on myself, so I stopped when I got the 200 hearts. Once the Morning Star is in hand, you can start killing the annoying blobs on your way back to the town of Jova, and then you can get your white crystal and your holy water, and then go all the way east to Aljiba to get the blue crystal, and then go back across the river to the west to the town of Alba to get the red crystal, then take the tornado west of Ondol (where you got the Morning Star). Make sure you stock up on Laurels before taking the tornado, because you'll then cross a long marsh to Laruba Mansion as your first destination. Talk to the laurel merchant there to restock before you leave after getting Dracula's Ring, because you'll need to re-cross the marsh to go back to Bodley Mansion for Dracula's Nail, and then cross it again back to Laruba. Go back inside and restock on Laurels, because you'll need to cross another marsh to the west to get back to Aljiba. Because we need Dracula's Heart in order to get to Brahm's Mansion where Dracula's Eyeball is, go down the stairs outside of Aljiba to Rover Mansion, get Dracula's Heart, then equip it when talking to the ferryman west of Jova to get to Brahm's Mansion to get Dracula's Eyeball. After that, go back across the river and go east to Berkeley Mansion for Dracula's Rib. After going through the whole game to this point without your handy shield, it's time to resurrect the Count and kill him once again! Cross the river one last time (don't equip Dracula's Heart), head west to Deborah Cliff, ride the tornado, then go east of Bodley Mansion and follow the path until you reach a staircase. Take it down to the abandoned town of Ghulash and continue east to the ruins of Castlevania. With the end of Scientist also marks the beginning of another Classic Doom Official Add-on! Welcome to Anomaly Report! Anomaly Report is a vanilla-compatible megawad with 33 new levels designed by Michael Jan Krizik (valkiriforce) for Doom 2, and published in April 2022. The levels are themed around a variety of visual styles, combining both outdoor and interior settings. It includes new graphics (a status bar by galileo31dos01 and a widescreen bar by NightFright), music, textures (remixed from Doom II, The Plutonia Experiment and TNT: Evilution), and a DeHackEd patch by OpenRift. On July 5, 2022, Anomaly Report was added to the selected group of official add-ons for the Doom Classic Unity port, and it was selected as a runner-up at the 2022 Cacowards. The only thing that hasn't been changed is the story. The intermission messages are still the same as in vanilla Doom 2. It's Thursday, which means time for more Team Battles in F-Zero 99. In Team Battle, the 99 racers are divided into two teams: the Green Team and the Pink Team. Here, finishing in 1st place is only part of the battle. There are four different ways to score for your team in this mode. You score Spin Points by simply hitting players on the enemy team with your Spin Attack. You score KO Points by delivering the killing blow on an enemy player (the max energy bonus from KOs applies to all members of your team in this mode). You score Bumper Points by getting a Lucky Bumper after getting KO'd and bumping into enemy racers (so you can still help your team from the grave). You score Lap Points depending on your current position at the end of each lap (obviously the higher your position the more points you score). After the race, the total scores in all four categories for each team are added together, and the team with the highest combined score is the winner. It's Monday, which means it's Grand Prix day once again! The Queen League update is here, so let's tackle the new tracks! Mute City 2, Port Town 1, and Red Canyon 1 have also been added to the regular race rotation, and White Land 1 was already in Pro Tracks from the beginning. However, just like Silence in the Knight League, White Land 2 is only playable in the finale of the Grand Prix. There are trick jumps in Red Canyon 1 and White Land 1 that I can do fairly consistently, so those tracks are where I can usually make up some ground. Looks like the big jump on White Land 2 was shortened too, which is good. If you can get a Super Boost on White Land 2, the skyway completely breaks the track, allowing you to completely bypass the notorious hairpin section! The Queen League update also adds Death Wind 2 from the King League to the Pro Tracks rotation. That will be tomorrow. Hack by @AlejandroChannel : https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/6375/ In the spirit of F-Zero with the recent release of F-Zero 99 on the Switch, I thought for this week's Sunday Longplay I'd play a rather interesting hack of the OG F-Zero on SNES. Welcome to F-Zero Beginnings! F-Zero Beginnings is a prequel to the OG F-Zero, where before the iconic cars and their drivers we know now joined the Grand Prix, there was only one type of car on the track, known as Turbo Snails (also called Bumpers in F-Zero 99). All the cars have been replaced with different types of Turbo Snails which have different levels of speed and handling, though all are below average compared to the iconic four. Your boosts even only have half the duration! So with all this in mind, expect a new level of challenge from the original game! The Purple Snail is the best choice for beginners, with its acceleration and turn speed, though it is extremely susceptible to guardrail damage. The Green Snail has the highest top speed, but terrible acceleration and resistance to CPU crashes, and it also has very slippery turning. The Brown Snail is so slow that Expert and Master modes are impossible to beat with it, and the Explosive Snail is even slower and explodes upon any sort of damage be it from guardrails, mines, or enemy cars. Imagine playing F-Zero 99 with your car perpetually in Power Down mode. For this playthrough I'm playing Master mode on the Knight and Queen Leagues with the Purple and Green Snails respectively, and then for the King League I'm taking the ultimate challenge with the Explosive Snail! Like I said, Master and Expert modes are impossible to beat with the Brown and Explosive Snails because of their absurdly low top speed, and I also initially tried it on Standard but that turned out to be impossible as well (ranked out on Port Town 2). So the Explosive King League Challenge had to be done on Beginner. It's Monday, which means it's Grand Prix day once again! The Queen League update should be coming sometime this week (Nintendo does say "late September" on the website), but in the meantime, let's get some more practice on the Knight League courses! Death Wind 1 is probably the hardest track in the Knight League for me to win, just because its simplistic design makes it hard to gain ground or catch up if you fall behind after getting bumped away from a boost pad, and I was literally an inch away from ranking out at the very end in the 2nd tournament. Even a 1st place finish on Silence was not enough to recover from that...
