NEW YORK (AP) Kevin Durant was cheered before the game, then booed when it started.
His return to Brooklyn was on track be a noisy one, until he and the Phoenix Suns took the crowd out of the game with some relentless offense.
“I love to shut the crowd up. Even though I love these people here, I love to shut them up," Durant said after scoring 33 points to lead the Suns to a 136-120 victory Wednesday night.
Durant added eight assists in his first game in Brooklyn since being traded to Phoenix nearly a year ago. He got a mixed reception early before leaving Nets fans little to cheer with 11 points in the third quarter, when the Suns outscored the Nets 42-26 after leading by three at halftime.
“He put the team first, went out and competed, played team-first basketball, had eight assists and several other plays where made the extra pass and allowed his teammates to play through his double-teams and played a team-first type of game and ended up with 33 and eight,” Suns coach Frank Vogel said. “Hell of a performance.”
Durant’s return earned the game a national-TV slot but it wasn’t much of a contest in the second half. The Suns, with Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal, are trying to build a title contender, while the Nets - who not long ago had their own Big 3 with Durant, Kyrie Irving and James Harden - are 19-28 and outside playoff position.
Jusuf Nurkic added 28 points and 11 rebounds for the Suns, overwhelming an undersized Nets team as the Suns won for the ninth time in 11 games. They improved to 3-2 on a trip that has stops remaining in Atlanta and Washington, Beal's former home.
“It’s tough. With a team like that you know they’re going to shoot well, just those three guys at a high level, so we had to pick our battles tonight,” Nets coach Jacque Vaughn said.
Booker finished with 22 points and Eric Gordon had 17. The Suns shot 62% from the field and 50% from 3-point range.
Cam Thomas scored 25 points for the Nets, who had won two straight games. Mikal Bridges, who came to the Nets in the Durant trade, had 21 and Lonnie Walker IV added 19.
The Nets played a tribute video for Durant - who had wrote on social media that he didn't want one - before he was announced first among the Suns starters. He received cheers then, though was booed when he touched the ball in the early minutes.
“That wasn’t going to stop me from just doing my job, regardless of how I was honored,” Durant said of the video, calling the Nets a classy organization for the way they treat former players.
The swing of emotions was fitting, as Durant had said earlier this week that fans didn't know how to feel about him. He brought hope of a first NBA championship to the Nets when he and Irving signed together in 2019, but left without ever getting close. Brooklyn won just one playoff series during that time in 2021, but Durant was disappointed with the way the Nets played while he was hurt the following season and asked for a trade in the summer of 2022.
The Nets held onto him then, but moved him to Phoenix before last year's trade deadline after Durant renewed his request after Irving had been moved to Dallas.
The Nets were without Ben Simmons, who was sidelined with a bruised left knee just one game after returning from a 38-game absence with a pinched nerve in his lower back. Simmons came down awkwardly after blocking a shot in the fourth quarter Monday and Vaughn said the No. 1 pick in the 2016 draft's knee was swollen, though an MRI exam showed no structural damage.
The Suns broke it open in the third quarter with a 10-0 run that pushed an eight-point lead to 99-81. Durant had the first five points, and after Nurkic dunked, Durant scored while being fouled by Thomas, who is listed as 7 inches shorter. Durant stared for a few moments across the baseline toward the crowd, then held his fingers close together to indicate that Thomas was too small.
The entire Nets team was too small. With Dorian Finney-Smith and Day'Ron Sharpe also sidelined, there was no ability to match up inside and Phoenix outrebounded Brooklyn 42-27.
Phoenix played without starting forward Grayson Allen, who sprained his right ankle Monday in a victory in Miami.

STEPHEN CURRY SCORES 37 AS WARRIORS BEAT 76ERS 119-107!
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) Since Draymond Green returned from his second suspension of the season, the Golden State Warriors have begun looking like their balanced, ball-sharing selves again.
Stephen Curry is thriving as usual, Andrew Wiggins is working back into dominant form after a slow start, and Jonathan Kuminga is emerging as an electrifying playmaker.
Curry scored 37 points with eight 3-pointers, Kuminga added 26 points, and the Warriors beat the Philadelphia 76ers 119-107 on Tuesday night as guard Klay Thompson sat out with an illness.
“It's fun,” Green said, “I think it's starting to come together for us now. We've just got to string some wins together.”
Curry, who also had eight rebounds and seven assists, shot 12 for 17 in his third straight 30-point game. It was his third consecutive game with six or more 3s and his sixth in a row with at least 25 points.
He hit two straight 3s midway through the third as Golden State went ahead 69-57 and finished with 15 points in the period.
Wiggins added 23 points, five rebounds and four assists. Coach Steve Kerr credits Green for lifting up Kuminga and Wiggins - “telling us to keep going, no matter what,” Kuminga said.
“Draymond really changed things with his return because he connects those guys at both ends of the floor, just with his communication defensively and the way he helps get us organized offensively,” Kerr said. “Great to see Wiggs and JK both playing so well and playing well together. It’s fun, you can see the team we’re shifting a little bit with how we’re playing and who we’re playing.”
Tobias Harris had 26 points and 10 rebounds and Joel Embiid scored 14 points for the Sixers before limping to the locker room with 4:04 left to a standing ovation after Kuminga fell on his left leg. Coach Nick Nurse said the center would have an MRI exam Wednesday.
It was an important win for the Warriors to end their homestand following two straight one-point losses against 2023 playoff opponents - 145-144 to the Lakers in double overtime on Saturday night after a 134-133 loss to Sacramento on Thursday.
The 76ers dropped their fourth straight following a six-game winning streak. They hoped to have Tyrese Maxey return for the second night of a back-to-back but he sat out his third straight game with a sprained left ankle.
Wiggins made his first five shots and scored in double figures for the sixth time in seven games as Golden State won for just the third time in nine games. Kuminga extended his career-best streak of games with 20 or more points to seven. He has reached double figures in 24 consecutive games, also his most.
Green encourages Kuminga by telling him, “There is nobody in the world who can stop you.”
Brandin Podziemski replaced Thompson - the Warriors' 16th different starting lineup this season - and scored 11 on the day he was named to the All-Star Weekend Rising Stars roster. He drew his 20th charge, second-most in the league.
Dario Saric dished out seven of Golden State's 32 assists and Draymond Green had six to go with nine points and six rebounds.
Warriors guard Moses Moody is likely to return from injury during the upcoming road trip. He has been cleared to practice after straining his left calf Jan. 10. Chris Paul can begin light on-court individual workouts wearing a splint on his surgically repaired left hand that he injured Jan. 5. The Warriors said he would be re-evaluated again in two weeks.

DENVER (AP) Doc Rivers saw the same thing coaching from the sideline Monday night as he did watching from his couch all season - a talented Milwaukee team that just needs a little more time to take shape.
Also, that Nikola Jokic continues to be next-level at everything he does.
Jokic spoiled Rivers' debut as Milwaukee coach by recording his 14th triple-double of the season to help the Denver Nuggets surge by the Bucks, 113-107.
“They’re great,” Rivers said of his new squad. “They’re a very coachable team.”
Jokic finished with 25 points, 16 rebounds and 12 assists. Jamal Murray scored 35 for the Nuggets, who gained separation during a late 8-0 run.
The game was a chance for Rivers to size up his built-to-win-now club. Bucks players made an instant impression with him - and he on them.
“He did a great job commanding the team, leading the team,” forward Khris Middleton said. “It's going to take time for us to get used to him and him to see what we’ve been doing and how we’ve been successful so far this season and in the past.”
Rivers was lured out of his role as an analyst to take over for first-year Bucks coach Adrian Griffin, who was fired after 43 games and a 30-13 record.
Embarking on his 25th season as an NBA head coach, Rivers alternated between arms folded, hands on his knees and hands on hips in moving up and down the sideline. He kneeled at times, clapped, consulted with Joe Prunty, the interim coach before Rivers' arrival, and even showed frustration over a foul called on Brook Lopez late in the game for an illegal screen.
Rivers watched his new team squander an early 13-point lead, fall behind by nine and then fight back before Aaron Gordon ended the comeback by blocking Damian Lillard's layup attempt with 24.7 seconds remaining.
The game featured 12 ties and nine lead changes.
“I mean, that’s why I play - to play these kinds of games, to play under the pressure, to play tight games,” Jokic said. “I like to play under those circumstances.”
The win was a milestone for Michael Malone - victory No. 400 as coach of the Nuggets.
The significance?
“It means that I’ve been here a long time,” Malone cracked.
Giannis Antetokounmpo had 29 points and 12 rebounds for the Bucks, who began a five-game trip. The “Greek Freak” played nearly 37 minutes despite dealing with an illness that had his availability up in the air leading into the game. Had he missed the contest, it would’ve been the second straight game in which an NBA MVP didn’t play at Ball Arena. On Saturday, reigning MVP Joel Embiid was a late scratch for Philadelphia because of a balky left knee.
But Antetokounmpo treated the capacity crowd to a high-flying exhibition (and was called for a 10-second violation on a free throw that electrified fans). He was named the NBA player of the week for the East earlier in the day.
“I try to thrive in those moments as much as I can," Antetokounmpo said of going against players such as Jokic. “And learn as much as I can."
Lopez had 19 points, including five of Milwaukee's 16 3-pointers. Lillard finished with 18 points.
Rivers conceded it will take a minute to settle in on the bench as he steadily meshes his style with the way the Bucks already play. He wants them flowing along and not overthinking.
One thing he doesn't have to remind them of - just how good they are. The Bucks feature several holdovers, led by Antetokounmpo, from the team that won the NBA championship in 2020-21.
“They already know what the goal is,” Rivers said. "And they all know that the only way you reach that goal is it has to be ‘We’ - as a group.”

ATLANTA (AP) Saddiq Bey dunked in Trae Young's miss with 1.1 seconds left to lift the Atlanta Hawks to a 126-125 win over the Toronto Raptors on Sunday night.
It was the fifth straight loss was for the short-handed Raptors.
“We talked about it in the huddle,” Young said. “Just try to go create and go downhill, but we needed to crash because they were going to contest my shot. We were going to have a shot at a rebound and it worked out perfectly for us.”
The Raptors had taken a one-point lead when a turnover in the backcourt led to a dunk by Scottie Barnes with seven seconds remaining.
“When I turned it over, I knew I was going to get a chance to help my team,” Young said. “I felt bad. I was dumb for making a mistake at the end. I should have called timeout when I didn’t have anywhere to go. It is nobody’s fault but mine.”
Bey finished with a season-high 26 points and he also grabbed 13 rebounds. Young had 30 points and 12 assists as the Hawks overcame a night where they shot just 6 for 27 (22%) from 3.
Clint Capela finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds for Atlanta and Jalen Johnson had 17 points and 12 rebounds.
“I thought we were connected tonight,” said Hawks coach Quin Snyder, who saw his team break a four-game losing streak. “It is not going to happen every night, but that doesn’t mean we can’t strive for it for 48 minutes. That is our goal, to have that type of determination and perseverance when things don’t go our way.”
The Raptors were without three double-digit scorers in RJ Barrett (knee swelling , 19.2 ppg), Immanuel Quickley (quadriceps contusion, 15.5 ppg) and Jakob Poeltl (ankle sprain, 10.6 ppg).
The absence of the 7-foot-1 Poeltl was particularly felt early, as the Hawks had five dunks in the first quarter and attacked the lane regularly. Atlanta finished with a 76-52 advantage in points in the paint and outrebounded the Raptors 51-46.
Jordan Nwora had 24 points, nine rebounds and six assists off the bench for the Raptors in his third game since being acquired in a trade with the Pacers. He only scored three points in his first two games with the Raptors.
“When this situation arises (with three starters out), it is an opportunity for another player,” Raptors coach Darko Rajakovic said. “I look at it that way. We will try our best to compete in every game.”
Scottie Barnes had 24 points and eight assists for Toronto and Gary Trent Jr. added 16.
Hawks guard Dejounte Murray was ruled out with hamstring soreness shortly before tipoff. The former All-Star is averaging a career-high 21.2 points per game. He had started all 45 games prior to Sunday.

GRIZZLIES OUTLAST MAGIC!
JAREN JACKSON JR. SCORES 30, GRIZZLIES HOLD ON TO BEAT MAGIC 107-106.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) Jaren Jackson Jr. had 30 points and eight rebounds, reserve Ziaire Williams added 17 points and the Memphis Grizzlies held on for a 107-106 victory over the Orlando Magic on Friday night.
Luke Kennard finished with 15 points - all on 3-pointers - and six assists as the Grizzlies won their third straight.
Paolo Banchero led the Magic with 27 points while Wendell Carter Jr. added 20 points and nine rebounds. Franz Wagner finished with 18 points for Orlando, which has lost seven of nine.
Orlando's Jalen Suggs suffered a bruised left knee in the first quarter and did not return. Magic coach Jamahl Mosley said the injury will be re-evaluated when the team returns to Orlando.
The Grizzlies built the first double-digit lead of the game in the third quarter and stretched it to 11 early in the fourth, but the Magic rallied behind Banchero, who had 12 points in the final period. His 3-pointer with 2:54 left cut the Memphis lead to 105-103, and Wagner's two free throws with 28.7 seconds left brought the Magic within 107-106.
The Orlando defense caused a shot-clock violation with 4.7 seconds left, giving the Magic the final possession. The ball came in to Banchero, who passed to Joe Ingles for a 3-point attempt from the left wing. It bounced out.
“I trust Joe to hit that shot,” Banchero said, adding: “I thought it was going in. It looked good, but it rattled out.”
Mosley said Banchero's pass to Ingles was one of the options Orlando drew up in the huddle during its final timeout.
“I don't know if you can ask for a better look at the end of the game,” Mosley said.
Jackson said with the Magic having the last possession, he knew the final shot could be a heartbreaker because Memphis wouldn’t have time to respond. He said Ingles’ shot looked like the ball “was in slow motion.”
“We’ve been playing against Joe Ingles so many times. I remember playing against Joe Ingles in Utah, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen him miss (a shot) like that,” Jackson said.
Memphis improved to 5-15 at home; the Grizzlies are 13-12 in away games.
Kennard has been asked to run more of the offense with Ja Morant out for the season and two other Memphis point guards - Marcus Smart and Derrick Rose - also injured. The Grizzlies had 30 assists.
“We've been telling each other to continue to play with the pass,” Kennard said. “Continue to move the ball. I think we've done a really good job over the past few games.”
Williams was 7 of 10 from the floor, including 3 of 6 from outside the arc as Memphis made 15 of 41 3-pointers (36.6%).
The teams exchanged leads in the first half while the Magic dealt with foul trouble for Banchero, who picked up three in the first quarter, and the injury to Suggs.
There were 12 lead changes and and 10 ties before halftime. An 18-7 push by Memphis to close the half gave the Grizzlies a 68-59 lead, the largest for either team at that point.

Kings vs Warriors 🔥 | Final EXCITING ENDING | January 26, 2024
Kings 134, Warriors 133
KINGS WIN THRILLER!
SABONIS DUNKS WITH 22 SECONDS LEFT, CURRY LOSES BALL AS KINGS HOLD ON TO BEAT WARRIORS 134-133.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) When Harrison Barnes starts feeling it, the Sacramento Kings look for him in any spot he likes.
In another wild game with the Golden State Warriors, they needed every bit of Barnes' best - including his timely block against Jonathan Kuminga in the tense closing moments.
Domantas Sabonis made a go-ahead dunk with 22 seconds left, Barnes scored a career-high 39 points with back-to-back baskets in crunch time, and the Kings held off the Warriors 134-133 on Thursday night to split their season series at two games each.
“The way you have a high-powered offense is all five guys are going to have to make sacrifices at times,” Barnes said, crediting his team's unselfishness.
Stephen Curry threw an alley-oop to Kuminga with 1:22 left that got Golden State within 132-131. Kuminga then rebounded a missed 3-pointer by De'Aaron Fox and dunked again for the lead.
After Sabonis' dunk, Kuminga got blocked by Barnes with 18 seconds to go, hoping he'd get a whistle. Sacramento's Kevin Huerter missed a pair of free throws with 15 seconds remaining to give the Warriors one last chance. Curry dribbled around the perimeter trying to get a look and lost the ball - a similar ending to the Warriors' 124-123 loss Nov. 28 when he turned the ball over late.
Curry said he probably should have called a timeout. “The chaos of the moment you’re trying to make a play,” he said, “sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn’t.”
Fox added 29 points and five assists for Sacramento, which beat Atlanta 122-107 at home on Monday night to end a four-game losing streak.
The Kings went to the hot hand in Barnes, who notched his second straight 30-point game.
“I think a lot of it just happens in the flow,” Fox said. “That’s kind of how he’s getting going and once he gets going there’s more of an effort to get him the ball in certain spots.”
Curry scored 33 points with six 3-pointers on a night the teams combined to hit 41 from long range. Curry made 5 of his first 7 3-pointers on the way to 18 points in the opening quarter, his season high for any period.
Kuminga scored a career-high 31 points in his career-best fifth straight game with 20 or more points, a night after his 11-for-11 performance matched Hall of Famer Chris Mullin for most made baskets without a miss.
Curry pulled Golden State within 122-121 on a layup with 4:45 left only for Fox to knock down consecutive 3s. Kuminga converted a 3-point play with 3:53 to go that made it 128-124.
This was another back-and-forth battle between the Northern California neighbors who went the distance in their first-round playoff series last spring before Curry scored 50 in Game 7 to send the Warriors to the Western Conference semifinals.
After playing three times between Oct. 27 and Nov. 28, Sacramento tried to make it two in a row after winning 124-123 at home in Golden 1 Center in that previous meeting almost two months ago.
Andrew Wiggins scored 17, Klay Thompson 16 and Dario Saric 14 as the Warriors completed an emotional 24 hours with back-to-back games after celebrating the life of assistant coach Dejan Milojević during Wednesday’s 134-112 win over the Hawks a week after “Deki” as they called him died following a heart attack.
Kings coach Mike Brown wore a black “BRATE” shirt - it means brother in Serbian and Deki used it fondly - with Milojević’s initials inside a heart the Warriors had made to honor him.
“Man, what an entertaining game,” Brown said afterward.
During warmups, Curry told rookie teammate Brandin Podziemski he wanted to bring New York Liberty star Sabrina Ionescu, the all-time 3-point contest record holder with 37 points, to town for a shootout.
Ionescu replied on X, formerly Twitter, with a message and emoji of two eyes looking: “Let’s getttttt it!! See ya at the 3 pt line (at)StephenCurry30.”
Curry now has 3,734 career defensive rebounds, moving him into second place in Warriors franchise history and past Larry Smith (3,731).
The two-time MVP also has scored at least 24 points in his last 25 games against the Kings in the regular season and playoffs - 15 of those with 30 or more, four 40-plus games and the 50-point performance.

HOUSTON (AP) Anfernee Simons scored 33 points and Jerami Grant added 21 as the Portland Trail Blazers rallied to beat the Houston Rockets 137-131 in overtime on Wednesday night.
“So many great efforts and I’m just proud of our guys,” Portland coach Chauncey Billups said.
Portland opened overtime with a 9-2 run, with five points from Malcolm Brogdon, to take a 133-126 lead with about two minutes left in the extra session.
The Rockets got a free throw from Alperen Sengun and a layup from Fred VanVleet to cut the lead to four points with less than a minute left in OT.
But Deandre Ayton tipped in a shot with 10 seconds remaining to give Portland a 135-129 lead, and the Trail Blazers held on for the win.
Brogdon had 19 points and Ayton added 18 points and 17 rebounds for the Trail Blazers, who snapped a two-game skid.
“Malcolm is just Mr. Reliable for us,” Billups said. “He makes shots when we need it. ... He makes plays when we need it. He just does it all for us. He’s a savvy veteran who can impact games.”
Sengun had 30 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists, and Jalen Green scored 29 as the Rockets dropped a second straight game.
“This was a game we should have won tonight,” Green said. “But things happen, and we've got to bounce back.”
Brogdon hit a 3-pointer to cut the lead to a point with 3 seconds to go in regulation. Aaron Holiday made two free throws with 1.1 seconds remaining to push Houston’s lead to 124-121.
But Grant forced overtime when he hit an off-balance 3-pointer at the buzzer.
“The shot was incredible that he hit,” Billups said. “Great players make coaches look good. He hit a heck of a shot. He just rose up and knocked it down.”
Portland used a 6-0 run, with the last four points from Ayton, to take a 116-114 lead with 2½ minutes remaining in the fourth.
Houston trailed by two points before Sengun made a basket and then got a steal at the other end. Green made a layup to put Houston on top before the Rockets forced another turnover.
Sengun added another bucket after that to put the Rockets up 120-116 with about 90 seconds to go.
Brogdon made a basket for before Sengun scored again, giving Houston a 122-118 advantage with less than a minute left.
“We've just got to guard better,” VanVleet said. “Our defense wasn't very good.”
VanVleet added 18 points with seven assists and six rebounds for the Rockets in his return after missing a game with lower back tightness. Jabari Smith Jr. sat out for a second straight game for Houston with a sprained left ankle.

CLIPPERS HOLD OFF LAKERS!
LEONARD'S 2ND CAREER TRIPLE-DOUBLE LEADS CLIPPERS OVER LEBRON-LESS LAKERS 127-116.
LOS ANGELES (AP) Facing a seven-game road trip, the Los Angeles Clippers added to their momentum of late by beating the Lakers for the first time in three meetings this season.
Kawhi Leonard had his second career triple-double, James Harden had 23 points and 10 assists and the Clippers won 127-116 on Tuesday night. They've won three in a row and 11 of 13.
“Everybody contributed to the win,” Leonard said. “That’s what we got to do, knock down shots when they’re open and tonight we did.”
Leonard had 25 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, including three key ones in the fourth when the Clippers were clinging to a narrow lead. The team had 33 assists.
“They were coming with fire trying to get it out of his hands all night,” Clippers coach Tyronn Lue said of Leonard.
D’Angelo Russell led the Lakers with 27 points and 10 assists and Anthony Davis had 26 points and 12 rebounds with LeBron James watching from the bench.
“It's a different dynamic with him not being out there,” Leonard said of James. “You saw guys came in and stepped up and made big shots for him.”
James is day-to-day with left ankle pain. The Clippers didn't have big man Ivica Zubac, who is out for at least a month with a right calf strain.
The fourth straight road loss dropped the Lakers under .500 at 22-23. They led just once, by one point early in the game.
“Like I told them just now, a lot of good things we did during this game,” Lakers coach Darvin Ham said.
The Lakers twice closed within two points early in the fourth. Leonard found Norman Powell for a corner 3-pointer and Leonard hit Paul George with a pass for a layup. Powell scored again and Leonard made two free throws to cap a 9-0 spurt that extended the Clippers' lead to 119-108. Powell finished with 17 points.
George was bothered by a left groin issue late in the game. He had 17 points and four of the Clippers' 14 turnovers.
Lakers forward Cam Reddish limped off the floor barely able to put weight on his right leg after going down at mid-court in the fourth.
The Lakers alternately attacked the basket or hit 3s in the third. Russell scored their first seven points. He and Austin Reaves made back-to-back 3s that cut the Lakers' deficit to 92-88.
“They're a good transition team and we allowed them to play to their strengths,” Leonard said. “We just got to be better at that.”
Russell Westbrook sandwiched 3-pointers around a goaltending call on Rui Hachimura before Amir Coffey's 3 sent the Clippers into the fourth leading 106-97. Westbrook finished with 16 points.
The Clippers shot 66% from the floor in the first half and pulled away with a 15-9 run to go into halftime leading 77-64. Leonard made all seven of his field goals in the half when both teams scored nearly every trip down the floor.
Westbrook was missing his right shoe as he hit a 3-pointer in the first quarter.
