Nero's Golden House (Timewatch, 2001)
Rome had burnt to a cinder but the 26-year-old Emperor Nero turned his tragedy into a triumph by ordering the construction of the grandest, most ostentatious building on earth - the Domus Aurea or Golden House.
From the ashes of central Rome rose a vast complex of palaces, pavilions and temples set in 200 acres of parkland. The Golden House was a creation of great beauty but became a place renowned for violence and sexual perversion where the infamous emperor would satisfy his darkest desires. Even the Romans found it too much and so hated was this place that, after Nero's death, his lake was deliberately paved over to allow the construction of the Coliseum. Nero's Golden House was an audacious project - unheard of before and unequalled since. Today, a few rooms survive to remindus of its former sinister glory.
Now a new investigation is taking place to try and distinguish fact from fiction. It will be one of history's great detective stories - can the building help prove whether the Emperor Nero was as bad as they say - or worse? Or was he actually an inspired artist and designer unfairly maligned through the centuries? Is the 'Golden House' one of the unrecognized architectural wonders of the world?
Rome's most notorious emperor was trying to create a model of Roman domination on land and sea. There were hundreds of rooms, and thousands of frescoes and statues. Only the best was considered worthy. To cap it all, a 120-foot statue of Nero, as absolute ruler, stood at the entrance - (this was the Colossus - from which the Colosseum would later derive its name). On completing the Golden House Nero exclaimed, "Good, now I can at last live like a human being."
Combining new archaeological evidence, comprehensive historical research and high-end CGI, this film reconstructs for the viewer the unparalleled wonders of Nero's Golden House. This visually bold and exciting film exposes the man behind the myth, exploring just who the real Nero was and what exactly went on in his notorious building.

Murder in Rome (Timewatch, 2005)
This is a dramatized documentary of a famous Roman murder trial which established the law career of Marcus Tullius Cicero.
Rome in 81 BC was under the dictatorship of Sulla after a civil war. Sulla proscribed perceived enemies of the state. Up to 9000 people, mainly nobles, were executed without trial as part of the proscriptions and had their property seized. It was in this environment of fear and extra-judicial killings that the trial takes place.
Roman trials were the ultimate in ancient entertainment, with life or death outcomes. Thousands flocked to see the spectacles, drawn by the prospect of lurid tales of murder, intrigue and violence. After all, there was no state prosecution service so the law was only open to the rich and famous, meaning the trials were a fascinating window on a world of debauched privilege. The stars of these bloody shows were the lawyers and the greatest of them all was Cicero.
Rome, 81 BC: Sextus Roscius is accused of patricide, if found guilty, he faces a brutal execution. Defending him is a young lawyer - Cicero. Cicero is up against one of the finest prosecutors in the city - Erucius. The facts seem simple: Roman gentleman Sextus Roscius has been stabbed in the street. It's an apparently motiveless killing. None of his valuables were stolen. The prime suspect is the old man's son.
Sextus Roscius Junior had means, motive and opportunity. Erucius calls witness after witness and builds a shocking case. The court learns that Sextus Junior has possibly committed an earlier murder - his elder brother Gaius, who stood to inherit the wealthy father's land.
It seems like an open and shut case. But Cicero's brilliant out-of-court detective work is about to dazzle the Roman courts for the first time. By the time he has finished, not only is Sextus Junior absolved, but Cicero has unmasked a conspiracy that goes to the top of Roman society. Using the actual trial record, this gripping drama reconstructs one of the most celebrated murder trials in history.

Hitler Youth.2of2.Child Soldiers Last Stand (2018, 720p HD Documentary)
Never has a generation been so completely taken over by a totalitarian state as was the case in Hitler's Third Reich. At the age of 10 children joined the Jungvolk movement, at 14 they joined the Hitler Youth, and at 18 they joined the party, the Wehrmacht, the SA or the SS.
Child Soldiers Last Stand
Emerging in the 1920’s, the youth movement of the Nazi party served Hitler fanatically. By 1943, Nazi leaders began turning the Hitler Youth into a military reserve to replace manpower which had been depleted due to tremendous military losses. In the Waffen-SS division Hitlerjugend, these young soldiers were prepared to face the allies at Normandy. Looking back many years later, they reflect on the consequences of their involvement with an organisation that, by December 1936, membership in was mandatory for all German youth.

The Roman Empire in the First Century.2of2
Two thousand years ago, at the dawn of the first century, the world was ruled by Rome. The Roman Empire struggled with problems which are surprisingly familiar: violent coups, assassination, overarching ambition, civil war, clashes between the classes as well as the sexes and questions of personal freedom versus government control.
But from the chaos, the Roman Empire would emerge stronger and more dazzling than ever before. Soon, it would stretch from Britain across Europe to the shores of North Africa; and from Spain across Greece and the Middle East to the borders of Asia. It would embrace hundreds of languages and religions and till its many cultures into a rich soil from which Western civilization would grow. Rome would become the world’s first and most enduring superpower.
Through the experiences, memories, and writings of the people who lived it, this series tells the story of that time – of the emperors, slaves, poets and peasants who wrested order from chaos, built the most cosmopolitan society the world had ever seen, and shaped The Roman Empire in the First Century.

Voices from Hitler's Army.2of6.The Luftwaffe: Messengers of Death (2000)
The Luftwaffe was at the cutting edge of Blitzkrieg and it was instrumental in bringing the war to the great cities of Europe, most notably during the 'Blitz' on London during 1940. As the war progressed, however, the pilots were forced to fly more in defence of their country, often in inferior and outdated aircraft.

The Gulf War 1991 (Line of Fire, 2000)
On August 3rd 1990, Iraq, under its ferocious dictator Saddam Hussein, invaded Kuwait, its oil-rich neighbour. Not long out of a war with Iran, Iraq badly under-estimated the reaction of the watching world to its unprovoked attack; in particular, they believed that the US would not dare to become involved. A coalition against Iraq was formed and it struck back in January 1991. Iraq's air defence system and the country's infra-structure were taken apart by air attacks that utilised the very latest warfare technology - and it was technology as much as anything else that brought Iraq's armed forces to its knees. Saddam had promised the 'mother of all battles' - words that came to haunt him and his army as they were caught in the open on the bloody road to Basra.

The Valour and the Horror - Death By Moonlight: Bomber Command (1992)
1992 Canadian production about the Canadian pilots and air crews in the Royal Air Force Bomber Squadrons during World War II. Using interviews, re-enactments, old footage and photographs, Brian McKenna's film depicts the war from the perspective of those involved.
The Valour and the Horror is a Canadian television documentary miniseries, which aired on CBC Television in 1992. The series investigated three significant Canadian battles from the Second World War and was a co-production between the CBC, the National Film Board of Canada (NFB) and Galafilm Inc.
The central themes of Death By Moonlight are that RAF Bomber Command "deliberately hid the truth" about RAF bomber crew survival rates, concealed plans about deliberately annihilating civilians, and betrayed the trust of Canadian military airmen. The episode first aired on January 19, 1992.
The series was written by Brian McKenna, an award-winning journalist and founding producer of The Fifth Estate and his brother, Terence McKenna, and was directed by Brian McKenna.
