In today’s episode, we’re going to breakdown the success and important impact of 2015’s “The Witch” while also diving deep into what this movie can tell us about finding our place in a world that otherwise doesn’t accept us. It’s a dark story, to be sure. But I believe it’s also a very personal story to the filmmaker behind it which makes for an interesting sense of relief and liberation by the time the credits roll. For those looking for an excess of gore and flashy kills, you may soon find yourself wandering beyond the slice and dice of slasher cinema and instead being taken on a more cerebral and psychological journey through the mind of Robert Eggars in his first directorial outing - The Witch.

Did you know that the producers of Saw repurposed a non-Jigsaw related script into what we would now know as the first sequel? From a pit of 120K fake needles to a filming schedule of just 21 days, this project had nearly everything working against it. 1999, Y2K was pending; some folks were freaking out about it, while most teens couldn’t be bothered. That year saw a few big releases, some great fun ones like Deep Blue Sea and Lake Placid, and some that were meant to be great, like Virus and The Haunting. So when a smaller title, one that sold itself with “the touching story of a boy and his right hand,” Idle Hands’ marketing knew exactly who they were aiming at with their film.

Most of us can agree that today's film lives near the bottom of the barrel of the “Halloween” franchise and maybe the horror genre itself. The late 1990s and early 2000s had an interesting subgenre of films come forward and be popular, a sort of serial killers versus cops thing that had a few entries, including Copycat, The Bone Collector, Kiss the Girls, Taking Lives, and The Watcher. There was something about them that was on the edge of horror but not so far into the genre that general audiences would skip out. Today, we discuss the one that bombed hard yet had a fantastic cast with James Spader, Keanu Reeves, Marisa Tomei, and Ernie Hudson. So what went wrong? Let's find out!

It's hard for a sequel to be better than the original; no, hey! Don't close the video, and please hold all hate in the comments until the end of the video. I'm not saying Creepshow 2 is better than the first movie; that's just silly. Creepshow 2 sits in an interesting spot as it lost its original director and writer (for the most part) but does an admirable job trying to capture the feel of part 1. It could be worse right? Part 3 is one of the worst sequels of all time. While I prefer its spiritual successor, Tales From The Darkside, Creepshow 2 deserves its time in the sun and is one of the better Black Sheep's in horror.

The Shining is one of the greatest horror films and novels of all time. So the idea of creating a sequel that properly honors both seemed like a near-impossible task. Enter Mike Flanagan, whose work in horror had gained him quite the reputation for creating high-quality genre work. So join us as we get into how Flanagan convinced King to honor Kubrick's version while still correctly making a sequel to King's novel, as we deconstruct Doctor Sleep.

If anybody ever had the acting chops in the 90s to convincingly play a publisher who gets bitten by a werewolf and then slowly starts to become one himself, it’s Jack Nicholson. Wolf sits snugly in the ‘so bad it’s actually pretty good’ category and there’s not necessarily anything we can say that would prepare you for the experience that is watching director Mike Nichols’ Wolf. So, get ready to for a transformative experience as we howl at the moon and find out just WTF Happened to this Horror Movie.

Horror remakes are everywhere, but in the late 1980s and early 1990s, they were rare. Of course, some had come and gone with varying degrees of quality and success. 1990, another remake came out with a bit less joy. It was downright hated by many, with Roger Ebert even putting it on his “Most Hated” list, something that was not entirely surprising as he had high regard for some of the Romero originals that came before. This remake of a beloved film, one that broke barriers and is still highly influential to this day, was a significant risk even to dare to make it.
