Member of Parliament, Canada, Chandra Arya and author Rajiv Malhotra join forces in Ontario at the Hindu Heritage Centre to unveil the book Snakes in the Ganga and discuss the issues mentioned therein. Scholars from Tibet, China, Cambodia, Mongolia, and other places regularly visited Nalanda University to translate the books in its library. This is a precious collection of India's original knowledge that was highly sought after by everyone in the world. Later on, Muslim invaders burned down the entire library of Nalanda. When the Dalai Lama came from Tibet to India in the 1950s, he brought back several hundred Tibetan translations of these works. Infinity Foundation gave a grant to Columbia University 20 years ago to translate into English some of the most important books in Nalanda University that were burned by Muslim invaders centuries ago. That project has continued since then as a result of our foundation's historic role in the revival of Indian knowledge. The American Indologist Wendy Doniger, whose academic activity has spanned over forty years with several tomes in different genres, including interpretive works on religion, translations and edited volumes, forms the subject of Dr. H.R. Meera’s essay in the book 'Ten Heads of Ravana.' The author, through a metaanalysis of Doniger’s methods and frameworks of study, shows how Doniger’s understanding of Indian chronology leads to several wrong interpretations of the historical timelines of important texts of the Sanskrit canon, while highlighting her derision for Indian thinkers such as Manu, Kauṭalya and Vātsyāyana. Kannan shows the various mistranslations of Sanskrit words in Doniger’s works and how this is an important tool in the latter’s work for propaganda writing and building misinterpretations of several important Dharma texts. The desacralization project of scholars such as Doniger is also analyzed by Kannan, especially how the former uses psychoanalytic techniques on dhārmic vidyā-s, as seen in the case of studies on Tantra, which forms the core of Tibetan Buddhism as well as Hinduism. Kannan highlights how while the former is left alone, the Tantra related to Hinduism is targeted by Doniger. Ramachandra Guha’s work forms the subject of T.N. Sudarshan and Divya Reddy’s study in the book 'Ten Heads of Ravana.' Guha, known for his elaborations on “Nehru, Gandhi, cricket history, environment, politics and economics” is the recipient of the Padma Bhushan in 2009, India’s third-highest civilian award. Irfan Habib, the Marxist scholar from Aligarh Muslim University, is the subject of Manogna Sastry’s essay in the book 'Ten Heads of Ravana.' Habib has the distinction of being amongst the most vocal and unrelenting voices opposing the archaeological results of the excavations at Ayodhya against the backdrop of the dispute for the land demolished at the erstwhile Babri Masjid. Sastry analyzes his notorious role as a witness and ‘expert’ in the Ram Janmabhoomi issue at Ayodhya, as well as his and his coterie’s hold over the country’s premier historical research institutes and universities. Sastry’s lucid essay highlights several such points and key observations on a range of issues, drawing from original readings of Habib’s works and others. She traces the significant contributions of Irfan Habib to the disfiguring of Indian history and his role in creating a hegemony in academic institutions that perpetuate divisive and false historical accounts. Kancha Ilaiah Shepherd’s work is analyzed by Sharda Narayanan and Subhodeep Mukhopadhyay. Ilaiah, who has been hoisted as one of India’s foremost social thinkers, is instrumental in internationalizing Dalit issues and bringing them to the attention of global institutions. In a written testimony submitted to the UK Parliament, the Christian Solidarity Network cited Ilaiah’s testimony at a US Congress hearing, on how anti-conversion laws in India perpetuate Dalit slavery by obstructing their freedom to leave the Hindu religion. Ilaiah has cast Hinduism as a “cult” which ostensibly encourages vegetarianism, nudity and sexual perversion, in stark contrast to Christianity which he feels has an ethic of sacrifice and civility. Narayanan and Mukhopadhyay analyze critically the major themes of Ilaiah’s work, expose his research methodology and caliber, including his use of superficial similarities in name endings to establish a fantastic linkage between the Harappan civilization and the Bible!
