Egypt: Meet Ibrahim al-Organi, the Sinai tribal leader under scrutiny over Gaza war https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/egypt-ibrahim-organi-sinai-tribal-leader-gaza From holding police officers hostage to becoming the richest person in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, the militia chief has had a meteoric rise Published date: 1 March 2024 About 15 years ago, Sinai tribal leader Ibrahim Organi was in jail, suffering what he described as “severe torture” by senior police officers. “Every day, at 6 am, they would take me out of the cell, blindfold me, and release six trained dogs without claws, with garbage tied to their mouths. The dogs would then approach and intimidate me while I had my eyes closed, unable to see anything,” he told Rose al-Yusuf magazine, in a now-deleted interview. It was a few months before millions of Egyptians took part in nationwide protests that ended with the resignation of then-president Hosni Mubarak. The protests were partly triggered by several documented incidents of torture at the hands of police and security officers. “One day, they brought three prisoners on death row, dressed them in women's nightgowns, and invited all detainees to watch them. They told me it would be my turn the next day and attempted to do the same to me," he said. Organi said he suffered a stroke due to torture and ended up at a hospital, partially paralysed. Organi was serving time in jail for kidnapping dozens of police officers after an incident in which his brother was killed by anofficer at acheckpoint in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula. He was released about two years later. The same man, now 50 years old, is currently considered one of the closest allies to President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and the Egyptian military. He owns a gigantic business empire spanning construction, quarry mining, travel, hospitality, and private security. Since the Gaza war broke out on 7 October, during which Israel imposed a strict blockade onthe Palestinian enclave,Organi has wielded significant influence on the movement of people and goods between Gaza and neighbouring Egypt through his companies. There have been reports that his companies, some of which are part-owned by the Egyptian security services, have even demanded bribes to allow aid into Gaza and people out of the enclave. Middle East Eye asked the Organi Group and the Egyptian State Information Service for comment but did not receive a response before publication. Along with his business empire, he also heads a controversial Sinai militia known as the Union of Sinai Tribes, which has worked closely with the Egyptian army in its fight against a local Islamic State group affiliatebut now faces an unknown future after the official end of the military operation. Organi has come under increasing media scrutiny since the Gaza war. One independent outlet has labelled Sinai as the “Organi Peninsula”, reflecting his widespread influence in the northeastern region. Another portrayed him as the “Hemeti” of Egypt, drawing analogies between him and the Sudanese warlord Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo. But how influential is Organi? And does he really have the potential to emerge as a rival to the Egyptian army as Hemeti has done in Sudan? MEE explores Organi’s history and how he rose to prominence in Egypt. Who is Ibrahim al-Organi? Ibrahim Gomaa Salem Hassan al-Organi was born in Sheikh Zuweid in northern Sinai on 4 December 1974. According to his ID, his official address is in Abu Tawila village in Sheikh Zuweid. He hails from the Tarabin tribe, one of the three largest tribes in North Sinai, the two others being Sawarka and Romaylat. Currently, he heads the Union of Sinai Tribes, a paramilitary group mostly made up of members of his own tribe. According to a Sinai tribal source, Organi started his career as a taxi driver in northern Sinai, using his pickup truck. He was also engaged in lucrative smuggling activities to Gaza and Israel, said the source. Organi is also believed to have earned money by charging businessmen who used his tribe’s area for construction projects. The Tarabin,Sawarka, and Romaylat were the subject of aferocious security crackdown in the aftermath of bombings that hit several tourist destinations in south Sinai between 2004 and 2006. The arrest campaign targeted several thousand tribesmen, as well as some women who were detained to force their male relatives to surrender themselves. The crackdown prompted the tribes to organise a series of protests and sit-ins in April and July 2007. The protest movement at the time was referred to in the media as the "We Want to Live" movement ("Wedna Nieesh" in Arabic). Then in his early thirties, Organi participatedin the protests and sit-ins. But he also simultaneously acted as a mediator between the security services and the tribes, along with two other more influential members of his Tarabin tribe at the time, Mousa al-Deleh and Salem Lafy, the Sinai source told MEE.....

When Diana began dating Prince Charles, she was thrown into the public eye and there was huge media interest around her and she was often followed by paparazzi. Princess Diana was on holiday in France with Dodi and it is reported that Henri Paul, the driver of the car, approached the entrance of the tunnel at a speed of 70mph when the speed limit was 30mph. Reports say that Henri lost control of the car and crashed into a pillar in the middle of the tunnel. Henri and Dodi were pronounced dead at the scene and Diana was rushed to the Pitie-Salpetriere Hospital. It is believed Diana had concussion, a broken arm, a cut thigh, and two serious chest injuries. Doctors operated for two hours to save her life but were unable to get Diana's heart beating properly again. The Princess never regained consciousness and she passed away on August 31 1997. It is widely believed that a seatbelt would have saved Diana's life. Trevor, the only survivor from the crash, had been wearing a seatbelt at the time.

But before we explore that question, let's start with a more important one. Let's be honest with ourselves. If we can look at the situation from beyond the confines of current political discourse, and look at the emperor without his "new" clothes, we all know that Israel does not want peace. They want all of Palestine, and their belligerent settlement practices confirm that. But the Israelis are taking advantage of the world's ignorance of the realities in Palestine, and posturing as being willing to talk "peace", only to actually stall that very peace process, so as not to interrupt the further colonization of Palestine. So anything that can be offered as an excuse, will be. The most convenient ploy, presented with the sycophantic assistance of the media, is that of "terrorism". But the masses are naive, and fail to suspect the Machiavellian extremes that certain leaders will resort to to aggrandize their power. This includes creating a false enemy, in this case, Hamas, whereby the right-wing leadership of the Israelis can point the finger to some "enemy" to blame otehr than themselves for supposedly stalling the process. The use of Islamic terrorism for the political ends of Western nations is nothing new. After the collapse of the Ottoman Empire in 1924, the British and Americans stepped in to fill the vacuum by providing their own versions of "Islamic" leaders. This started with the creation of the Muslim Brotherhood, which was created through a grant from the British. Under British sponsorship, the Brotherhood flourished, and today represents a sizeable and powerful force in the Islamic world, but most worryingly, as the institution behind almost every act of terror in the name of Islam. More correctly, the Brotherhood has been a tool shared my numerous Western intelligence agencies, starting with the Nazis, followed by the CIA, but also the Russians, French, Germans and Israelis. Since the Truman and Eisenhower administrations, it has been a staple of foreign policy of the Cold War to exploit the Muslim Brotherhood to rally naive Muslims to reject "atheistic" Communism as an arch enemy of Islam. Ever since, the Americans and others have been able to manage the Brotherhood like a rabid dog on a leash to keep the Communist threat at bay. With the collapse of the Cold War however, the Brotherhood has been used for new imperial objectives, where they pose as the bogey man which the Americans can chase with their armies into the Middle East and Central Asia, starting with Iraq and Afghanistan. But, as NSC official Sheila Haslin explained, in a testimony at Senate hearings into illegal fund-raising activities, US policy in the region was to "promote the independence of these oil-rich countries, to in essence break Russia's monopoly control over the transportation of oil from that region, and frankly, to promote Western energy security through diversity of supply." Israel has also maintained a long-standing relationship with the Muslim Brotherhood, with its most recent manifestation being its participation in the founding of an offshoot organization, Hamas. According to Robert Dreyfuss, who details the US' troubling relationship with Islamic fundamentalism, in "Devil's Game: How the United States Helped Unleash Fundamentalist Islam": And beginning in 1967 through the late 1980s, Israel helped the Muslim Brotherhood establish itself in the occupied territories. It assisted Ahmed Yassin, the leader of the Brotherhood, in creating Hamas, betting that its Islamist character would weaken the PLO. According to Charles Freeman, a veteran US diplomat and former US ambassador to Saudi Arabia, "Israel started Hamas. It was a project of Shin Bet [Isreali domestic intelligence agency], which had a feeling that they could use it to hem in the PLO." In 1965, Yassin had been arrested by Egyptian intelligence, but after 1967, when Israel took control of the West Bank and Gaza, Yassin was freed. In 1973, under approval from Shin Bet, Yassin founded the Islamic Center, and began to establish effective control over hundreds of mosques. In 1976, Yassin created the Islamic Association, which membership branches throughout the Gaza Srip, and the movement grew. Israel's formal support for Islamic fundamentalism came with the election of the right-wing Likud party. In 1978, Begin's new government formally licensed Yassin's Islamic Association, as part of a strategy to undermine the power of the PLO.

After entering the three-bedroom house shortly before midnight, they discovered James Durrant lying dead on the floor. He had been killed with a single blow to the front of the head with a heavy, blunt but smooth edged weapon similar to a baseball bat. He had also suffered a knife wound to the upper half of his body, according to newspaper reports. There may also have been other, undisclosed injuries. Detectives found no sign of forced entry, suggesting he was either surprised when he entered the house or was accompanied by the killer as he made his way inside. Nothing was missing from the scene other than his dark leather wallet containing cash and miscellaneous correspondence, which suggested that the motive was unlikely to be robbery. The killer had not bothered to take other cash found on the body. The porch door had been closed but left unlocked after the murder. Neither of the murder weapons had been left at the scene. At a press conference a few days later, Margaret Durrant described the killing as “very puzzling”. She was not aware of anything that might suggest he was in danger and rejected any suggesting that there was a link to his membership of the Masons. Instead she and Christopher claimed that the killer could have been a drug addict or someone in need of money who followed the victim home from the railway station. Our Family Story... Jordan looked up the trustee's name and saw his firm had ceased trading or had even merged with another law firm.(link below)This is denied by the law firm and no firm will produce insurance details. DID THESE TWO LAW FIRMS MERGER? Jordan started some basic internet searches and found a theft of 5.5 million pounds from the trustee previous law firm by an employee called Mr Richard Alan Costain. Jordan contacted the law firm who now has all of Stuart Smalley and co's private clients and commercial team of Stuart Smalley and Co and the staff were obstructive and produced the first accounts in years which were clearly not correct. Jordan explained the need for monies to help support his parents and for medical needs, no offer of help was shown to Jordan and his family. Jordan flew alone to the Isle of Man from Southern Spain in February 2020 just before the pandemic and again no lawyer met Jordan on the Isle of Man nor did the trustee. Fired 14,500 tank shells and approximately 35,000 artillery shells into Gaza. Supplied 5,000 tons of munitions to its attacking forces. CASUALTIES According to the UN, between July 7 and August 26, 2014: 2,251 Palestinians were killed in Gaza, including 1,462 civilians. The dead included 551 children and 299 women. 11,231 Palestinians were wounded in Gaza, including 3,436 children and 3,540 women. Ten percent of the injured suffered a permanent disability. 142 Palestinian families had three or more members killed in the same Israeli attack, for a total of 742 deaths. More than 1,500 Palestinian children were made orphans. During the same period, five Israeli civilians, one Thai foreign worker, and 67 Israeli soldiers were killed. DESTRUCTION OF HOMES, SCHOOLS & MEDICAL FACILITIES Approximately 18,000 housing units were partly or completely destroyed by Israeli attacks, includingmulti-story apartment buildingsand entire neighborhoods, leaving approximately 100,000 of Gaza's 1.8 million people homeless.
