This is a well made, fully adjustable rechargeable 52 LED wall light with a remote control, three light modes and five stage dimming.
In the box you receive the light unit itself, a wall mounting bracket, two double sided sticky mounts, a screw mounting key, a charging cable and a user guide. The build quality all seems fine, with nothing looking likely to fail or fall off anytime soon. The unit is rated IPX4 water resistant and although a light shower might not harm it is probably best kept out of the garden.
The wall bracket features a 360° rotating magnetic ball and socket mount which can be pointed and positioned pretty much any way you want and allows the unit to be quickly and easily removed from the mount. This together with the included remote control means the light can be mounted at ceiling level with no problems.
The 2000mAh USB-C rechargeable battery should give between five and twenty hours of continuous use from a three hours charge, depending on the settings used.
The unit has a simple and rather overly sensitive touch button on the rear to allow for manual operation, short press to change light temperature mode, long press to set the brightness. However, the unit is probably best operated using the well marked and easy to use credit card sized remote control. With the remote control, the colour temperature and brightness can be set but a four stage timer can also be set giving timed operations of 15, 30, 60 and 120 minutes. Take note that the timer can only be employed using the remote control and take note too that the device has to be switched on initially using the rear button before the remote can be used.
The light is good and bright with the three colour temperatures of 3000K, 4000K, and 6000K clearly defined. One nice feature is that when using the 10 - 100% stepless dimming, the light will flash twice at the upper and lower levels.
It looks good, works well and is easy to use and for the current price of a shade less than £12 I think it is a pretty decent buy.

This excellent little lamp from ZYRIVON arrived nicely presented in a simple product box making the product attractive enough for use as a gift. Inside the box aside from the lamp itself was a short USB-C charging lead and a simple User Guide.
The product is nicely designed in matt black plastic with a single large button on the top to switch between the five brightness levels and three white light modes. The crocodile jaws are strong and grip well and once in place the lamp feels pretty secure. The short 360° flexible gooseneck can be put into almost any orientation.
The 16 LED device can be mains powered and will operate when charging but it is primarily designed for use with the internal 1000mAh lithium polymer battery for which it claimed 5-30 hours of continuous lighting from a two-hour charge depending on the lighting setting used. It is USB powered but no mains adapter is included which is no problem as we all have plenty of spare USB adapters these days. I was pleased to see that the USB cable is a standard one and does not have the custom plug I have encountered with some rival products.
It is designed mainly for use with the crocodile jaws but will stand self-supported on the flat base, be aware that this limits how the gooseneck is used as the lamp is liable to topple over if it is extended too far out.
The light has three light modes - cool white, normal white, and warm white - as well as 10- 100% Stepless Dimming, all selectable using the single control button on the lighting head. Short press to select colour and long press for brightness.
Most people will probably use this light for reading, but it is small and neat enough to be used as a keyboard light and can be powered from a laptop USB port when doing so. It is compact and flexible enough to be stored easily in a laptop bag. The main use I put it to is to read by at night and it clips neatly to the cover of my book for this purpose.
This is an excellent little lamp, good and bright and available now from Amazon for the very attractive price of £9.95.

Blog: https://marcoscucom.wordpress.com/2024/02/08/dostmann-external-weather-sensor-case/
I use a Netatmo weather station and although the outdoor sensor is supposed to be weatherproof I like to keep it protected from the worst of the elements and a case like this one allows it to measure the temperature, humidity and air quality but keeps the rain and snow off and does not attenuate the wireless signal.
Priced today at £18.09 (slightly less when I bought it) on Amazon it is not too dear and although the same company have now produced a rather posher £30 version with a built-in solar-powered fan, I am happy enough with this one.
In the box you receive the case itself, a user guide and a mounting kit consisting of a screw and wallplug set and velcro tape to secure the sensor to the mounting post inside the case. All you are going to need is included in the kit.
The main unit consists of a lightweight flexible plastic tubular case with a detachable base and a wall bracket into which it slots. The case can be easily removed from the wall bracket as and when required.
Build quality seems fine, although rather lightweight but it could be argued that is a feature designed to reduce the effect of the case on the radio signal to the sensor. The base of the unit can be removed and features an upright mounting post to which the sensor can be secured. On the base is a drain hole as the slats in the case wall allow the wind to pass through but also a certain amount of rain.
I secured my Netatmo sensor to the mounting post using the velcro strips leaving a small gap between the bottom of the sensor and the case floor to protect it from any water pooling which might occur.
After a couple of months of use checking inside the case, I could find no sign of weather damage or water pooling although the velcro had sagged and the sensor was now resting on the base.
So there it is. If you have a weather sensor or any similar external device that you need to protect from the worst of the elements, then this would be a pretty decent buy.

The Conambo K10C Pro mono headset is perhaps mainly designed for the business market. Priced at £41.39 before discounts has a well made and professional feel to it. Build quality throughout feels first rate and robust with nothing looking likely to fail or fall off anytime soon.
In the box, you receive the headset itself, a clip-fit storage case, 9 buds (one fitted) of different sizes, a rather short USB charging cable and a well written and easy to read user guide.
This new headset employs the speedy Qualcomm QCC3040 chipset and I was very pleased to see that this headset also features USB-C charging and the Bluetooth 5.2 wireless protocol, which shows this is a newly designed unit and not just old tech repackaged. Bluetooth 5 allows the headset to quickly and easily connect to two devices at once, increases battery life and the reception range to 16m as well as giving fewer dropouts and less signal interference.
Looking at the IPX4 water resistant headset, which is fully adjustable and configurable to most ear and head shapes, along the top we see physical buttons for power on/off, and volume/track adjustment. On the twin microphone stalk are buttons for mute/personal assistant, and the Multi-Function button to cancel/reject calls, play/pause music and reset the headset. There is also the USB-C charging port.
This headset has three ways to charge from the 750mAh Lithium Polymer case battery. The headset can be slotted into the shaped recess inside the case, the headset can be inserted upright into the charging bay on the right, which can be accessed with the lid open or closed. The first method is the most natural when easy access to the headset is not needed and the second to make and receive calls when working at your desk. The headset is equipped with a standard USB-C port and this can be used to charge if the case is not available. The case itself is charged through the USB-C port and it gives a digital readout of the current battery status. A fully charged 750 mAh case battery should be able to charge the headset three times from flat. The only issue I have with the case is that there is no provision to store the charging cable inside.
One feature of this device is the ability to connect to two Bluetooth devices at once. To do this, connect to the first device in the normal way and then turn Bluetooth off on that device, and then pair the second device as before. Now without disconnecting the second device, turn on the first one again and it will automatically pair without disconnecting the other.. This is easier to do than it sounds and works well for me every time.
Call quality was excellent giving a clear distortion-free call with no dropouts or outages during my testing. Perhaps this is due to the dual noise reduction technologies of the twin microphones or the use of the AptX HD codec, but for whatever reason, call quality is excellent and one of the best I have encountered with this type of device.
So there it is. This is a quality piece of professional grade equipment well suited for use in the office or on the road.

Blog:
I have bought a few items from Aliexpress in China and with mixed success. This camera, with the Tuya brand name, for which I paid around £35, is widely available from multiple sellers within Aliexpress and looks very similar to the much more expensive Reolink Argus 3 camera I wanted to replace with it.
It is a rechargeable 1080p external wifi security camera with a spotlight and motion detector. The appeal to me, aside from the price, was that it is controlled through the Smart Life app and can be linked to Amazon Alexa and Google Home.
In the box you get the camera, a dual purpose mount, a mounting kit, USB-C charging cable and a well written user guide. I have to say that the build quality all looked equal to the Reolink and it was quick and easy to pair with the Smart Life app and then to Alexa.
Looking at the camera, on thr front is the camera lens, infrared night light, Spotlight, i/r sensor, power status LED, WiFi status LED, and the motion detector PIR sensor. On the back is a metal tripod mount and the speaker grill, on the base is a second tripod m,ount, together with a gromett protected flap concealing the SD card slot, USB-C charging port, a camera reset switch, an On/Off switch, and a blank SIM card slot.
The camera gives excellent results too with sharp and clear 1080p video and two way audio. I have also tested it with an external solar panel (also from AliExpress) and it seems to work well with it. That said, the video does look rather better inside the app than when downloaded. The video size from the card was 2304x1296, 15fps. It has the option for colour or infrared night vision, scheduled or 24/7 video with motion detection (with human discrimination), along with a good bright spotlight and a 100db siren.
It can be powered either using the battery charged about once every two weeks or so or with a solar panel. I bought a cheap solar panel from AliExpress to use with it and this seems to be working OK even during the short winter days.
Now the bad news. After a few days suddenly and for no reason the motion detection stopped working. I have reset the camera, removed and added it again to the system and confirmed the correct settings in the app but motion detection no longer works by day or by night. The camera will work for manual recordings and when in 247 recording mode but that is all. Also, like many cameras of this design (and there are many) it is very prone to raindrops getting onto the lens and distorting the picture.
That's the way with AliExpress, you win some and you lose some. Had I bought it from Amazon I would have sent it back, but I am sceptical about my chances of getting a refund from the AliExpress seller. I will probably just keep it in use as a general security camera in 247 mode.

I was looking for a gift for a young relative. This compact water bottle looked cute and hopefully would be a practical gift too. The version I bought has a Fox theme, but rabbit, bear and tiger versions are also available. Zoyzoii also has a range of backpacks and other products sharing these themes. I was not disappointed with my choice and I hope she will not be either.
In the attractive themed box you receive the bottle itself, a carry case with strap, a stickers set, and a user guide. The build quality all seems first rate, and the product is very attractively presented making it particularly appealing as a gift.
This is not just a drinking bottle it is also an insulated flask and can keep the contents hot for up to 12 hours and cold for up to 24. It is completely safe to use and made from food grade materials including type 316 stainless steel (whatever that is) for the body. Slightly smaller than a standard bottle at 450ml and weighing just 265g it is well suited for smaller hands. It features a built-in but removable food grade silicone straw which folds out of the way when the lid is clipped shut and secured with a no-spill sealing ring. The lid itself can be removed to give access to the container before filling with liquid.
The current price of £13.98 is certainly attractive and if you are after a stylish and robust drinking child friendly bottle or flask then this would be a great buy.

Blog: https://marcoscucom.wordpress.com/2024/02/04/aliexpress-gymbal-camera-neck-mount/
This is my latest buy from AliExpress, it's a neck harness for the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 Gymbal camera although I intend to use it with Feiyutech Pocket 2, which I also bought from AliExpress. The identical mount is available from a range of suppliers under different names and prices on AliExpress. The prices vary continually, so hunt around for the best buy.
Shipping is never fast from AliExpress, and the consignment containing this product took about three weeks. Tracking has improved and you can get stage by stage shipping details, although all orders do seem to take an age to leave China.
In the bag were just the 5 components of the mount, no user guide or assembly instructions were included. Build quality seems fine with the look and feel of an action camera accessory. I do have some doubts about the long term durability of the neck collar as it is quite a tight fit and needs to be opened quite wide to get on, which must be putting a strain on it, but it seems fine so far.
This mount is designed to hold the camera facing forwards at neck level, braced on your chest, allowing you to walk, talk and film hands free. There are two mounting options. The first uses the tripod screw thread on the base of the camera and the second uses a brace clamping around the camera body. The two mounting methods share components so you have to select one or the other mounting mode. I found that the bracing mount worked best for me and seemed the most secure. I would guess that the screw mount would also work with an action camera or any camera with a standard tripod mount fitting.
The mount can be adjusted up and down and forwards and back to get the angle needed but I found it seemed to default to the right position without much effort.
Assembly took a few minutes the first time as I had to figure out how it all went together but subsequent times were much quicker.
Does it work? Yes, it does, to my surprise and it does a pretty decent job too with the camera facing forward and the built-in mic on my Feiyutech just a couple of inches from my mouth. Does it work? Yes, it does, to my surprise and it does a pretty decent job too with the camera facing forward and the built-in mic on my Feiyutech just a couple of inches from my mouth. It seems pretty secure when in place and it is restrictive enough so you would immediately notice if it came off but for safety's sake I secure the lanyard strap of my camera to my jacket.
So that is it, it is a simple idea that works well and at just £6.81 it will certainly not break the bank. This is an AliExpress success!

Look for my detailed video review on YouTube - search for the marcoscu channel
This is my latest AliExpress purchase and the newest of my red light therapy products. Like almost everything on AliExpress the same product is available from multiple suppliers on AliExpress at a range of prices. I paid £24.32 including shipping from China, but be sure to shop around.
In the box, I received the red light pad, a 49cm elastic webbing strip, a 1.5m USB cable, a 0.5m USB cable, an English User Manual, and a Storage Case. Take note that a custom plug is used on the pad end of the cables, so a regular USB cable cannot be used. Build quality seems fine and pretty much of premium grade.
The pad is sized 54x26x2 cm with two long velcro straps on either end. It features 96 0.5W LED beads for 660nmm and 850nm treatment. Some of the buds are dual frequency and it seems that 32 are dual frequency and 64 are 850nm only. I do not have the technical equipment to test the output of the LEDs but the overall build quality and presentation do give me confidence in the claims for them. On the outside of the pad are the single backlit control button, the power input socket and a net pocket designed to hold a power bank.
The unit can be powered either from a USB port or from a power bank but make sure that the port used outputs at least 5v/2a, as some generic devices put out a lower power level which may not be enough to operate the device.
This is described as a knee treatment pad but it seems to me larger than is needed for that purpose and better suited to treat the shoulder or back which might explain the inclusion of the webbing extension strip. The AliExpress product page shows it being used to treat a range of body parts including the knee.
Operation is simple enough. Short press the button, the button lights up green and both the 660nm and 850nm LED buds start working, short press again and only the 660nm buds operate, press again and only the 850nm dear infrared buds work, Press again to switch off. Remember that the 850nm buds are invisible to the eye and although the button remains lit the LED lights will appear to go out. The device will switch off automatically after a twenty minute session. To use the red light pad in pulse mode, long press the button and it will turn blue to show pulse mode is selected. Then just repeat the proceedure above to select the light option required.
I tested the EMF pollution levels from this unit and although the Radio Frequency and Magnetic levels were low, the electronic frequency output level was high but not wildly so and comparable to that of many other household devices, so do not worry too much about it.
Some of the items I have bought from AliExpress, including Red Light Therapy devices, have been junk but I do not think this is one of them. Assuming that the LED ratings are correct then, for the price, this seems like a pretty decent buy to me.

Currently priced at £167.99 with an Amazon discount offered cutting the price in half at the time of writing, this compact sized short throw projector falls into the mid range category but it still has plenty to offer.
Inside the box aside from the projector itself was a full sized remote control, a power cable with a UK plug, an HDMI cable, an A/V cable adapter, a angle adjustment screw, and a well printed English language User Guide.
Build quality is excellent, the brilliant white plastic casing of the compact-sized projector feels well made and robust. Nothing feels flimsy or about to fall off or break. The power cable is heavy duty with a standard UK plug. The User Guide is large, simple and well written and tells you all you need to know. The infrared remote control is full-sized with proper physical clicky buttons rather than the credit card sized soft-touch remotes too often supplied. The main control buttons can also be found on the top of the projector itself. It has all the usual ports and connections: HDMI, 2 USB, audio out, and AV, allowing pretty much any sort of device to be connected to it including external speakers, Amazon Firesticks, Roku Boxes, hard drives and data sticks.
As regards specifications, this projector offers native 1080p resolution with 4K downscaling, a contrast ratio of a very decent 15000:1, brightness of 500 ANSI Lumens (15000 Lux) , with a best image size of 200 inches over a projection distance of 3m with manual keystone and focusing correction. The image can be zoomed from 75 - 100% directly from the remote control, a high end feature often missing at this price point. It offers Screen Mirroring to wirelessly stream from Apple and Android phones. I was pleased to see that Bluetooth 5 has been used to give a faster and more stable connection and the unit features high speed 5G dual-band Wi-Fi.
To operate you can use the supplied remote control, or the button set found on top of the projector itself. I use it with an Amazon Firestick connected to the HDMI port but external drives and memory sticks can be connected via USB. The second USB port can also be used to power HDMI connected source devices such as the Firestick, so it is good that two USB ports are included. When a Firestick or similar device is connected the remote control for that can be used for navigation, audio and general controls. The Projector can also connect to your home Wi-Fi network to allow wireless streaming from iOS, Android and other devices on the network. Take note that streaming is done over Wifi only, not Bluetooth.
I found it gave a good, bright, well-saturated image at the optimum recommended throw distance of 3 m with effective and easy keystone correction when used in a darkened room. The image quality is clear and sharp without fringing and it holds focus well. There are multiple options available in the settings panel to change image quality, colour saturation and contrast. Audio quality was good from the rear facing stereo speakers and reasonably loud for the size but for use outside or in large rooms an external speaker may be needed which can be connected to the AV port or streamed over Bluetooth. The internal fan is far from silent but much less annoying than most others I have tried.
The mid range price gets you some high-end features but if you are after a projector for professional use then keep on looking. The light output is fine for home use but works best in a darkened or semi-darkened room. The colours are good but less saturated and with slightly less shadow and highlight detail than you would find on a pro-level projector. The native 1080p resolution looks good and although 4K sources will play they will be downscaled in resolution.
Those in search of a good quality entry-level projector with decent image quality and with support for all the basic functions may find what they need here. For new home theatre owners with a small to medium sized projection room, this would be very well suited. If you want an autofocus unit with perfect colour fidelity for professional use in an undarkened room and with a huge image then this one is not for you and expect to pay very much more to find it.
This is a good quality device with excellent image quality and above average features for the price. It is priced far below high end professional projectors but it is by no means a budget device as regards its capabilities. It punches a good deal above its weight with build quality and design that makes it a great buy at a very affordable price.

I have a grabber tool which I use for fruit picking and other occasional tasks around the house. After some years the mechanism on my old grabber failed so it was time to replace it.
After looking around on Amazon although most of the devices seemed very much of a muchness, this model from Keykoy seemed a better buy because at 44 inches it is longer than most of the rivals but it folds up to keep the size down.
Constructed from plastic over a aluminium alloy frame, It seems pretty well made although the folding catches are a bit hard to use and rather more flimsy than I would like. The whole thing does feel a bit lightweight at times but then I suppose it has to given that weight can be an issue when reaching up for high objects.
The three-section arm unfolds to expand and has two catches holding it rigid when fully extended. The catches work fine but take two hands to operate, which can be inconvenient. When folded a velcro strip is provided to lock the unit in place.
A small but bright LED is incorporated into the rubber anti-slip jaws but annoyingly it uses three button type LR44 batteries rather than the more popular AAA or AAs and the switch to operate it is on the jaws, not the handle. On a projecting hook, a small magnet is included on the end of one jaw. These are both useful features which many rival grabbers do not have.
The trigger mechanism to operate the jaws works well enough but a firmer feel and a more positive action would be better. Also, it seems the jaws can neither be locked shut or open.
That, really is all there is to it.
Priced at £19.99 after discounts, there may well be better ones out there, but despite a few drawbacks this still seems a good buy to me.

Blog: https://marcoscucom.wordpress.com/2023/12/29/apexel-macro-lens-for-smartphones/
This is a macro lens accessory kit for Smartphones. Although it mentions the iPhone 15 in the Amazon listing title it should work with almost any smartphone out there.
In the box you get the 100mm macro lens itself, the camera Clamp, a USB charging cable, a spacer set, a semi-rigid carry case, and a user guide. Build quality all seems fine with nothing looking likely to fail anytime soon.
Looking in more detail at the kit, the lens has a 17mm mounting thread to the clamp and also an exterior thread to the front but we are not told the size. The lens is made from metal with optical glass elements and feels like a serious piece of kit. The clamp is made from plastic but feels well constructed and robust with a fill light of 40 small LEDS around the front. On the front are two buttons to control the LED lights, one for brightness and the other for Off/On and colour temperature. There are three colour temperature settings between 2700-6500K and three levels of brightness. On the top is a USB-C charging port for the built-in 350mAh Lithium battery, on one side is a cold shoe mount and on the other a standard tripod brass mount. To allow for phones with extruding lenses a padded spacer kit is included. The carry case supplied with the set is again well made and offers a decent level of protection for storage and field use.
Operation is simple enough. Fit the phone into the clamp with the circular aperture facing forward and over the lens. You can move the clamp up and down for height and then carefully slide the aperture panel to the side to position the hole exactly over the phone camera lens. Then carefully screw the lens into position. Use the buttons on the clamp to adjust the fill light to how you need it.. You can then just use your phone camera in the usual way.
I have used other simpler macro lens kits before, including others from Apexel, but this one feels the best made and features the fill light accessory, which could be essential in some circumstances to avoid shadows cast by the phone's casing. At £49 this is around twice the price of the cheaper rivals but I think it is worth the difference.

I have used tried several other mobile phone endoscopes before and seeing the three wired plugs, I assumed this was another USB one. No,
this is the first true WiFi connected phone endoscope I have tried needing no physical connection to the phone. The USB plugs are just to provide power with the WiFi hotspot transmitter being incorporated entirely into the cable with no bulky transmitter required.
The endoscope arrived packaged in a rather plain and simple box, inside of which were the endoscope cable itself, an accessory set consisting of a Hook, a probe, a Magnet, a mounting ring, and a Mirror. Also included was a well printed and easy to read User Guide. Build quality all seems fine and nothing looks likely to fail anytime soon.
The IP67 waterproof device consists of a 3m endoscope cable with a 7.9mm diameter camera head incorporating no less than 6 minuscule LED lights. The supplied tools can be attached to the head to retrieve lost objects or perform simple remote tasks. The device can take photographs and video in 1920 x 1440 or 1280x960 pixel resolution, better than any other I have tried. There are no controls on the unit itself, everything is done using the Anesok app.
Unlike older rivals, this one connects to your phone by Wifi with a claimed range of up to twenty metres. I only ever used it when much closer and the connection was consistently rock solid. The use of wifi means it can very easily be used by iOS or Android devices with no need for OTG cables, adapters or complicated setups. The three headed USB plugs (micro-USB, USB-C and Apple Lightning) are simply to provide power and can be connected to any suitable device such as a phone, power bank or USB adapter.
After installing the app and connecting the cable to a USB power source, open the app and connect the phone to the 2.4 GHz WiFi hotspot created by the cable. The network name will begin with ANESOK and no password is required.
You can then view video from the camera head in real-time and record video or stills on the phone. You can also review recordings and photos within the app. It is simple and intuitive to use and far simpler than the older cable-based devices I have used. Take note that the best depth of field is quite limited with the point of focus being about 2-10cm from the end of the lens, so resist the temptation to push the lens too close to the object. I found the 7.9mm head diameter to be smaller than most of the rivals I have used and the cable slightly more flexible and this made it easy when working in smaller and more confined apertures.
As with all such devices, the frame rate is quite slow but that is not apparent in normal use and I have to say that the video quality is better than the others I have tried. I suspect the video resolution is the claimed one and not the result of the upscaling found with some lesser rivals.
The current Amazon price of just £29.99 is less than I have paid for inferior rivals and considering the ease of setup and high quality results with this device that makes it a bargain indeed.

Here is another AliExpress purchase. I paid just £25.92 for this red light therapy mitten, the same thing from Amazon or the high street would be several times the price. But is it any good?
Usually direct from China goods are poorly made and poorly packaged. Not so here the build quality seems first rate, this looks and feels like a well made premium product. The bubble wrap packaging too was very protective but I wish I had taken up the option for a display box, yes often on AliExpress you have to pay extra for a proper box.
In the package was the mitten itself, a UK power adapter, a USB to 12v power converter, a short USB-C cable extender and a nicely printed user guide. Had I paid double the price I would not have complained here about the build quality.
The 210 x 160 x 50 mm mitt feels well made, from a heavy duty cloth material with well stitched strong seams. Inside are the 60 LEDs, 30 top and bottom, behind a plastic transparent skin. All the LED buds output red light at a claimed 660nm with 30 of them also outputting near infrared at a claimed 850nm. I don't have a spectrometer so cannot check on the power of the 60 06W 660nm and 60 830nm frequency LEDs but I have to say all seems fine on face value.
Operation is simple enough using the single backlit button on the mitten itself - press to scroll between 15, 30 and 45 minute timers with the backlight changing colour to show the time selected.
On balance, I would say this is a well made and attractively presented product that exceeds the modest asking price in quality. A few of my AliExpress purchases have been poor quality if not outright scams, but not this time. Assuming the LED claims are accurate, this is a very good buy indeed.

I was not expecting too much from this disguised security camera, the ones I have tested before were often hard to configure, difficult to use and yielded poor results. Not so here this new dual band Wifi camera from CAMDUCK, cleverly and effectively disguised as a (non operative) smoke alarm, was the opposite of those things - easy to set up, easy to use and giving decent quality video.
In the box you get the camera itself, a USB SD card reader, a charging cable, a rear cover access tool, and a well written and easy to read user guide. Build quality seems fine, this has the look and feel of an upmarket smoke detector and you would never know it conceals a camera even on close examination (although you might question why it needs an SD card).
This camera has three power options - the internal rechargeable battery, USB-C, and a mains power connection. The built rechargeable battery is designed for emergency or temporary use only and has a run time of about six hours, having to maintain a Wifi connection eats up the batteries. The battery is described as being non replaceable but it can be physically removed from the device and looks a lot like the widely available 18650. A wire can be pulled free from its channel on the underside of the unit to connect to a mains power supply.
The Camduck app is refreshingly well designed, simple and easy to navigate with a detailed step by step guide to getting the camera online. Once connected you can control the true PTZ camera in real-time including 360-degree panning, camera zoom and direct to phone recording. You can also access motion detection or manual recordings made to the SD card or the phone. You can fine tune the camera settings including switching between 24/7 recording or motion detection.
There are three ways of accessing the video recorded by the camera. You can physically remove the card and use it on your computer. You can connect to the wifi hotspot generated by the camera using the Camduck app or you can use the app the app to access the camera from any location across the internet. You can then download files, reconfigure the camera or watch the live video feed.
The camera records HD video but no audio to an internal SD card and you can access the files physically from the SD card to your PC, to your phone or tablet either over the internet or directly to the wifi hotspot generated by the camera itself.
The video results are excellent and once again better than I was expecting, with pretty good results even for low light work even though the camera does not have a dedicated night mode.
This camera is not the cheapest of its' type I have tried, but at around $100 before discounts, I think it is one of the best.

Blog: https://marcoscucom.wordpress.com/2023/12/17/freshdew-dehumidifier-review/
Our house has always suffered from damp and we often have to use a dehumidifier to keep it in check. Our old dehumidifier, which we have had for many years, is getting noisy, a bit scruffy and is much larger than the modern ones. So this new model from FRESHDEW is a good upgrade.
In the box, you receive the dehumidifier itself, two filters (one installed), a short drainage tube, a long drainage tube, and a well written and easy to read user guide. The build quality all seems fine, light in weight but robust and built to last, so far as I can tell. At 29 x 24 x 42 cm it is quite a bit smaller than my old one despite having a better water extraction rate of up to 12Ltrs per day. Weighing just 8 kg and wheel mounted makes it much more transportable too.
On the top, it has a large touchscreen display allowing you to check the current humidity level and to select the operating mode and target humidity you need as well as setting the timer, fan speed and power options. On the back is the detachable 2.5Ltr water tank which you will have to empty daily unless you use the included hosepipe for automatic draining. The hosepipe can be fitted without needing to remove the drain tank.
Operation
Operation is simple enough, press the POWER button to switch on, press the FAN button to select low or high power, and press the SETTING button to select the operating mode. There are two operating modes: Continuous (CO) and Comfort (AU). The first press will set it to Continuous mode and the screen will show the current Humidity level and the unit will maintain that level unless the SETTING button is pressed again to scroll between 30% and 80% target humidity levels. Keep pressing the SETTING button and you will enter Comfort mode and AU will show on the screen. In Comfort mode, you can vary the fan speed but not the humidity level, which is set by the device to the optimum level. In either mode set the fan to high to more rapidly reach the desired humidity.
Timer
Press the TIMER button to set the delay before the device turns on or turns off. When the device is in operation press the timer button to set the delay before it turns off automatically, the screen will show the number of hours. When the device is plugged in but turned off pressing the TIMER button will set the delay until it begins operation.
There are LED and audio alerts for a full water tank and the unit will cease working at this point. There is also an alert for frost detection - frost may form on the internal pipes operating in cold weather and degrade performance but the device will automatically defrost to alleviate this.
The unit is nicely designed and fits in well to the living room or anywhere that needs the humidity regulating and the unit can extract up to 12Ltrs daily from an area up to 2500 square feet. With a noise level of just 40dB, it is far quieter than my old machine, which used to dominate the room.
And that it is, that is all there is to it.
In use, it works well and will markedly reduce the humidity levels in the house and you can also use it to fast dry clothes. It is lightweight but feels well made and built to last, not too large, easy to move - it has wheels - and not too noisy.
The original price is around £149 but expect to pay much less when discounts apply.

AliExpress S24 Ultra Smartphone Review

Buy Me A Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/marcoscu6
Blog: https://marcoscucom.wordpress.com/2023/12/16/aliexpress-s24-ultra-smartphone/
I have bought quite a few items now from AliExpress, some good, some bad. I have seen the many listings there for what claim to be high-end smartphones at crazy low prices and wondered what you actually get for your money. Well, now I know. The same phone is available from a wide range of suppliers on AliExpress under different names and prices.
I ordered what was listed as an S24 Ultra 5G Android 13 Smartphone with a 6.82-inch screen, 16G of RAM and 512Gb of storage, all for just under £70. What a bargain!
After several weeks of waiting, finally it arrived, packaged in a plain but quite upmarket black box. Inside was the phone itself, a spare screen protector (one al was already fitted), a USB-C headset, a stylus pen, a USA fitting power adapter (I had ordered a UK one), a transparent gel phone case, a rest key, a short USB-C charging cable, and a simple generic user guide. The quality of the accessories was cheap, generic and low end, and the headset, when I tried it, had perhaps the worst sound quality I have ever encountered in a headset of that type. None of that bothered me too much as the phone itself did look good and seemed to be well made and rather 4eup market.
Then I switched it on or tried to. It took and still takes between thirty seconds and a minute to power up and get to the desktop. I installed some apps that would tell me about the internal hardware so I could see how much it differed from what was claimed.
My video shows screenshots of the DevCheck Pro app showing a detailed breakdown of the phone hardware, but here are some key features.
Operating System
Claimed. Android 13
Installed. Android 5

Claimed: 7”, 3200x2280
Installed 5.48”, 1600 x 720

Claimed: Yes
Installed: Yes
Cameras
Claimed: 48MP/72MP
Installed: 1.9MP/1.9MP
Battery
Claimed: 8800mAh
Installed: 7000mAh
There is GPS - sort of - but the claimed fingerprint recognition and NFC are missing. It also claims to support 5G calls but this I doubt. The built in software information says it supports 5G but since this is incorrect and innaccurate regarding other specifications, I suspect this too has been spoofed.
The phone is so slow as to be almost unusable and the operation system is so old that most modern apps including YouTube and Facebook will not even install. In my tests the maximum video resolution I could get from it was 720p@20fps and the maximum image size was 1600 x 1200.
The good things about it are the presentation, build quality and the screen, which is actually quite nice.
So there it is.
My advice would be to stay well clear of cheap phones on AliExpress or other similar websites. I knew, of course, I would not be getting what I paid for but I did not expect it to be quite so bad as this, and I did at least expect some sort of a functioning phone for the money.

Blog: https://marcoscucom.wordpress.com/2023/12/14/living-enrichment-smart-bathroom-scale/
Traditionally bathroom scales were big and heavy, even the high-tech digital ones, and so I was very interested in trying this new lightweight model from Living Enrichment particularly with the current Amazon price of just £19.99 before discounts, a bargain compared to rival units from Polar, Fitbit etc.
The scales arrived attractively packaged in a rather plain and minimalist box free from the gaudy packaging and plastics often associated with imported tech goods. Inside the box were the bathroom scales, a set of three AAA batteries, and a well written and easy to read User Guide. I include a scan of the concise User Guide in my unboxing video.
Build quality seems fine, made from reinforced glass and metal and I must say that this attractive and well designed model seems robust and well made enough to withstand the knocks and bangs of daily life.
There is not too much to see on the scales themselves. On the front are the LED display, four bio-impedance analysis electrodes, two on either side for taking the skin readings, on the underside are the four weight sensors, the anti-slip feet and the battery compartment for the three AAA batteries and the activation switch and unit selection button. In the past, I have struggled to get inside the battery compartment on some scales I have used but not so here as it can be done single-handed.
Once the device is unpacked and the batteries inserted the first thing to do is to download and install the iOS or Android app “Tuya Smart” (it also works with the popular "Smart Life" app) to your phone. Once connected, the scale will then wirelessly push each new measurement to the app which will then track 16 essential body composition data points such as weight, body fat, muscle mass, BMI, BMR, bone mass etc. The app supports data transfer to popular fitness apps like Apple Health, Fitbit, Google Fit and others.
To configure the device open the app and turn on the scales, which will enter pairing mode. The Bluetooth symbol will display on the screen when they are connected. Subsequent pairings will take place automatically with no input needed.
To use the scales, which should be positioned on a hard and flat surface, just step on them barefoot and wait for the large 80 x 32mm LED display to stop flashing to confirm the measurement. With four onboard sensors, accurate to 0.1kg/0.2lb you can track weights up to 400 lb /180 kg. The screen shows the current weight, the lb or Kg symbol showing the selected measuring mode and the Bluetooth symbol confirming connection to the phone. It is an easy matter to auto recalibrate the scales by simply stepping off and back on them.
The scale works fine and I have no reason to doubt the accuracy of the readings which mirror those on my old unit..
This is an attractively designed, budget priced smart bathroom scale, that works well, is simple to use and gives you access to multiple online app-based health monitoring systems.

This is an all in one car entertainment, navigation and safety device that should work with any vehicle and suitably equipped Apple or Android phone or tablet. It can play audio and screen mirror connected phones as well as output audio to the car speakers. It comes with an optional cable connected 1080p rearview camera.
It will connect wirelessly to your phone or other audio player and supports Android Auto, Apple Carplay or a standard Bluetooth connection and works with Siri and Google personal assistants and uses the same connection to give hands-free calling. It offers on screen satellite navigation through the connected phone and comes with a cable connected rear view camera parking aid.
In the box you get the main unit, backup camera with 26ft cable, adhesive mount, suction mount, auxiliary cable, car power adapter, fitting kit, and a well written and easy to read user guide. Build quality seems fine and my only criticism is that there is no cable provided to power the unit from the USB port commonly found in modern cars. The 17cm 1280 x 400 pixel touch screen features a power button on the top and in the bay on the underside Aux Out, AV and USB-C power in ports.
Installing it is easy enough as it has four different mounting options for the dashboard display unit. The power cable connects to the USB-C port and the rearview camera to the AV socket. For automatic rearview camera use you have to patch into your car’s wiring system but to select the camera manually this can be ignored. The Aux port is used to connect non-wireless external speakers.
It can output audio to take advantage of your car’s speakers using Bluetooth, Mirrorlink, AndroidCast, the internal FM transmitter, or an Aux output cable although the display unit does have a built-in speaker. You can use Bluetooth and WiFi to connect Android Auto, Android Cast, Apple Carplay and Apple Airplay devices for audio streaming and screen mirroring. It can also be used with Apple Siri and Google Assistant for voice control.
It works very well but will need to connect to your car's wifi or phone hotspot for the satnav and some of the streaming features. This can be a bit fiddly to set up and a lot depends on the capabilities of your phone. Android users will need to download the TcLink app to get the full benefit of the AndroidCast features. Once setup and configured it will automatically reconnect the next time it is used. I tend to use it mainly for the rearview camera and satnav but others may favour the in car entertainment options.
You have the option of a split display allowing you to monitor the 170° wide angle rearview camera whilst retaining access to the touch screen buttons for the audio, satnav or other active features.
I have to say I was surprised by just how well designed this unit is, with walk-throughs and on screen instructions helping you to get connected. The screen display is excellent, and again better by far than I was expecting and capable of getting the best from the rear camera, which can be used as a second rear mirror or as a reversing aid after tweaking the settings to configure it.
Once connected up this all in one unit will give you all the in-car entertainment you need as well as adding to the safety and enjoyment of your journey.
Worth the effort of setting it up, I think, for the current Amazon price of £119.99 before discounts.

The selling point for this USB flash drive is its versatility. Straight from the box, it will work with almost any computer or phone because it comes with some rather clever adapters allowing it to work with USB 3, USB-C, micro-USB and Apple Lightning. It brings with it some additional security features and a dedicated iOS app.
In the box you get the 256GB flash drive itself, USB-C adapter, and a well written and comprehensive user guide.
Physically, the 5.08 x 2.79 x 1.02 cm, 12g drive resembles a large conventional thumbdrive but it comes with a tiny adapter which connects to the USB 3 plug to convert it to USB-C plug. You can slip you nail inside the end of the USB 3 plug and pull it towards you allowing a tiny hinge to open revealing a micro-USB plug. The centre of the unit slides up and down inside the metal case to show the Lightning plug on one end and the USB 3 on the other, protecting one when the other is exposed.
The maximum read/write speeds for the interfaces are:
USB Read: 20-40MB/S
USB Write: 15-20 MB/S
Lighning Read: 20-23MB/S
Lighting Write: 20-25MB/S
iOS users can use install the LUV-Share app to gain additional features when usinmg the drive. With it they can safely edit and move files between devices and well as encrypt, protect and share sensiitive data or files. The whole flash drive can even be encrypted and unlocked using the phone's fingerprint sensor.
Android with OTG capable phones (Most are compatible) users can directly use the flash drive with no need to install additional apps. Files can then be transferred or copied between the phone and the flash drive quickly and easily. It works as a normal flash drive for PC and Mac users.
If you need a fast, simple to use and very versatile flash drive then this would be a pretty attractive buy at the current pre discount price of £29.99.

I have already reviewed the excellent £73 M10 Air quality monitor from Temtop and so I was interested to try this very similar budget priced alternative from the same company. I needed a simple and easy to use monitor that could sit in the bedroom and keep me updated on the pollution level of the air in the room. This one lacks a few of the refinements of the more expensive model but in essence, does the same job.
In the box was the air monitor itself, a USB-C charging cable, a magnetic mount stand, and a well written and easy to read user guide. Although made entirely from plastic, the monitor feels well made, robust and has a quality feel to it.
The monitor has just two buttons, one for power and the other for mode selection on the top above the clear and easy to read non-backlit LCD screen. On one side is the air sampling intake grill and on the other the air output grill with below the USB-C charging port. Press the mode button on the top to select ℃ °F or scroll through the four operating modes:
Smart Mode (automatic)
Real-time mode (samples about every 1.5s)
Interval Mode (5min samples)
Eco Mode (30min samples)
What does it measure?
PM2.5
Particulate Matter 2.5 refers to particulates or airborne dust with a diameter of around 2.5 micrometres or less in size. A reading of 0-12 is good, 12.1-55.4 is OK, and anything above is poor.
Sensor: Laser PM
Range: 0-999µg/m³
Resolution: 0.1µg/m³
Accuracy: ±5 µg/m³ (0-50 µg/m³)
±10 µg/m³ (50-100 µg/m³)
±10% (100-500 µg/m³)
AQI
Air Quality Index is a quick way of assessing general air quality on a scale from 1 to 500 with a lower rating being best. It follows the US EPA standard with 0-50 good, 51-150 fair and anything above 150 being poor.
Temperature
Range -10-60℃ with an accuracy of ±0.5°℃
Humidity
Range 0-99.9% RH with an accuracy of 3%RH
The rather dim LCD screen shows the current operating mode, PM2.5, AQI levels, Temperature and Humidity readings, battery/charging status, and the overall health level status.
The monitor has a built-in 800mAh Lithium Polymer rechargeable battery. It will work for around between 14 Hrs to 7 Days depending on the sampling mode selected. It will work when charging and so far as I know it can be kept permanently connected to the USB-C charging port.
This is a nice little meter that just sits there and gets the job done with no complicated calibration or other messing about needed. It is a great buy for the pre discounted £31.99 price with my only criticism being the lack of a backlit display.

These three LED Christmas stars fromGizmifylook great, are nicely made and not too dear at £21.49 - currently reduced to just £15.99 -for the set
In the rather plain box were the three large star lights with cables and control boxes attached, , a single remote control and a simple user guide.
Each 29cm star has 40 warm white LEDs and features a timer and 8 light modes. Each star has an IP44 water-resistant control box holding 3 AA batteries and the single operating button. Build quality seems fine, the stars have a metal coat hanger type frame and are connected to the control box by a robust 50cm hard-wired cable. It is a pity a longer cable or USB cord was not used to make concealing the control box easier.
The stars have eight operating modes: Combination, Wave, Sequential, Slo Glow, Flash, Slow fade, Twinkle, and Steady on. They have a 10 level brightness setting feature and also a 6 hours On, 18 hours Off timer. The stars have a memory feature and will automatically startup with the last light mode and dimming level used.
The lights look great, particularly outside but would be fine inside also, perhaps on top of a Christmas tree, in the window or on a door.
For the modest price, this makes a great festive buy

This set of garden lights is a step away from and a cut above the usual generic LED strips.
In the box you receive the set of twenty bulbs already installed on the lighting cable, each bulb securely housed in a separate padded housing in the packing box, on the end of which is a hard wired three pin UK plug. A small instruction manual is included, which I doubt you will need to consult. Just plug in and they will work.
Although these are LED powered, the lights in some ways resemble the traditional garden lights of years ago. Each light is a golf ball sized 40 lumen G40 LED bulb with what appears to be a traditional 2700K warm white filament inside. The 20 bulbs on the medium thick gauge wire are made from shatterproof plastic and feel suitably robust but should disaster strike, I was pleased to see two spare bulbs are included in the set, making 22 in all.
Each bulb can be unscrewed from its E12 socket on the cable and can be replaced as and when required. Each bulb has its own clip mount and can be attached to any suitable object, making installing the strip much easier. I was pleased to see that a socket for a cable extension is included, allowing additional bulb sets to be daisy chained onto this one. Up to 26 sets can be chained together!
The lighting set is rated IP44 waterproof, which means it should be fine in normal rain but do not submerge it in water. That said, to be on the safe side, make sure that you connect to a suitable indoor plug or a fully protected outdoor socket.
The advantage of a mains power connection is that these bulbs, rated 40 lumens each, are brighter than their USB or solar powered rivals, can left permanently connected and the set easily extended when required. The lights are very bright and are best suited for actual illumination rather than as an accent or mood light and they will light up your whole garden.
That is really all there is to it. If you want a traditional, old style outdoor lighting set, and have access to a suitably located mains power plug, then for the current price of £19.99 for the 10/20 bulb set and £28 for the 20m/30 bulb set, this could be for you.

Don't expect to be rendering 4K video or to be running Photoshop level apps on this device but if you want a decent quality, well made tablet for your young kids to have fun with, then this could be just what you need.
In the box you get the tablet, a spare screen protector - one is already installed, a stand, a charging cable, a UK power adapter, a stylus pen, and a user guide. The build quality is excellent and the tablet is clearly designed for heavy duty use with a super tough silicone skin with reinforced corners.
Although certainly not high end, this little tablet does have some decent specs, such as WiFi 6, Android Go 11, 1024x600 IPS screen, Bluetooth, twin cameras, 2Gb RAM and 32Gb of storage with an SD card slot for up to 256GB more. It's got the basic Google apps preinstalled as well as the custom iWawa app designed as a portal for kids but with a parental password. A simple and easy to use drawing app is also installed to make use of the supplied stylus pen. A wide range of other child friendly apps can be downloaded using the preinstalled Google PlayStore. All the apps look good on the bright and clear screen with loud if rather tinny support from the built in speakers.
You have to remember that this is not a tablet designed for normal use. If you bypass the iWawa portal, delve down under the skin and attempt to use it as a regular tablet then you may be disappointed. If you go straight to the portal interface and use the apps and features installed there then your kids will have the best experience. Inside the portal are everything your youngsters will need, video player, web browser, drawing and colouring apps, camera and video apps, all with preinstalled content suitable for preschool children including Montessori, First Learning, Brain Training, STEM, Art and Craft, Kids TV, Music, Drawing.
If you need a budget priced starter tablet for your preschool or school age kids, then for the current discounted price of £52.99, you will be doing well to find a better one than this.

This is a simple device designed to do just one thing and it does it rather well. It is a desktop charger and will charge two USB-A and two USB-C-connected devices in any combination you wish.
In the box, you receive the charger itself and a UK power cable. No user guide is included, which is a pity, but a full spec sheet is printed on the box. Build quality seems fine and the unit, constructed from heavy duty ABS, feels well made and robust.
On the front are the four charging ports, USB-A on one side, and USB-C on the other. On the rear is the two pin power port and on the top the rather dim LED display showing the real-time Current, Voltage and Power consumed by each connected device.
Using the latest GaN3 technology the unit will cleverly balance the required load for each connected device to ensure the maximum safe charging rate for all. The Desktop Fast Charger supports a maximum of 100W output for the USB-C ports, When You both use Both USB-C ports, port C1 will output up to 65W, and C2 will output up to 30W. The USB-A ports can output up to 18w each. Different port combinations will yield different output levels, and this can be a bit complicated, but here we go. :
C1 +A1=65W+18W,
A1+A2=7.5W+7.5W,
C1+C2+A1+A2=45W+30W+7.5W+7.5W
I have not tested these specific manufacturer claims myself, but from my own experience, I have little reason to doubt them: all from flat - MacBook Air 2.5 hours, iPhone 1 hour, iPad 1.5 hours, Airpods, 30 minutes. It supports the following industry standard charging protocols: Power Delivery 3.0/Quick Charge 4+/PPS/AFC/5V2.4A/BC1.2. Leaving all that aside, you will not be let down by the charging speeds available. The charger has over-current, over-voltage, short-circuit, and over-heat protection and so there should be no chance of overloading.
This is not a cheap device, coming as it does with a RRP of £99.99, but discounts are widely available and at the time of writing it can be had on Amazon for just £49.99, and at that price, it is a very attractive buy.

FRESHDEW Smart Wi-Fi Air Purifier Review
FRESHDEW Smart Wi-Fi Air Purifier Review

This is an excellent air purifier which, I hope will not suffer the issues that have plagued every other similar device I have tested, but more of that later.
The device itself is smaller than many of the rivals I have tested and is well made and attractively designed, There is a large easy to read control panel on the top with backlit touch-sensitive buttons for operating mode, timer and status lights. The fan level of the device will increase when poor quality air is detected and the status light on the control panel will indicate the current air quality.
The air purifier comes with an H13 grade HEPA filter inside - remove it from the bag before use. The True H13 HEPA Filter & 4-Stage Filtration captures particles as tiny as 0.3 microns with an efficiency rate of 99.97%. The Pre-filter traps large particles, the H13 HEPA filter captures ultra-fine particles, the activated carbon filter neutralizes odours, and the non-woven fabric filter provides a final barrier. There are a range of replacement filters currently available for CADR 300+ m³ pet allergies and other particular needs, all priced at £29.99. Search for B0CJFLWR53 on Amazon to find them.
The device is operated using the touchscreen control panel on the top. There are buttons for On/Off, Sleep Mode, Timer, Filter Reset, Fan Speed, and Child Lock. There are icons around the side displaying the current WiFi and Air Quality status. The current fan speed is shown in the centre and the available fan modes are: Auto, Low, Medium, High, and Turbo. To set the timer, press the timer button repeatedly to scroll between the 1-12 hour options available and in operation the display will alternate between fan speed and timer. Press the Sleep button to enter sleep mode and the display will be dimmed and the fan will start in sleep mode.
The air purifier is wifi equipped and has an Alexa/Google enabled app which allows for full remote control of the device as well as incorporation into automated routines and schedules. The app is nicely designed and easy to use and also works with a range of other Freshdew devices.
To control the device using the app or voice control, first install the Smart Home Life app on your phone. Make sure you are connected to a 2.4 GHz wifi network. Open the app and press the + button to install a new device. Select the AP-302 model from the menu and after turning the device on, hold down the WiFi button until it flashes and then just follow the on-screen prompts to confirm the button is flashing before entering your home wifi details and wait for the connection to confirm. The app works well and allows you to control and configure all the features of the device. You can then follow the instructions in the app to configure Amazon Alexa and Google Home to get voice control of the key features.
In use, it works well, so far as I can tell. The PM2.5 Air Quality Indicator automatically detects changes in the air quality, alerts you to it and increases the operating level and at just 24dB in sleep mode rising to 48dB at full power it is not obtrusive in use.
The drawbacks? Well, the price of replacement HEPA filters which at over £29 is a significant chunk of the price of the device. My sad experience with other manufacturers - and it may well be that FRESHDEW are an honourable exception- is that the replacement HEPA filters are in short supply and soon discontinued altogether. My advice would be to wait until the replacement filters are in stock and then buy at least one with the air purifier itself.
This is an excellent device that works well and is simple and easy to use and although not the cheapest I have seen at £129.99 before discounts - and discounts are always available - it seems a pretty decent buy to me.
