The Church at Philadelphia - Revelation 3:7-13
Sermon by Matt Trewhella on 6/28/2009
Keys represent authority. Christ possesses 'the key of David', not the Jews. Christ opens and closes the door, and Christ declares to the Philadelphian Christians that He has given them 'an open door and no one can shut it', not even the Jews. Those Jews who reject Christ are now declared by Christ to be 'the synogogue of Satan.'

No Rapture and More - Revelation 4
Sermon by Matt Trewhella on 7/19/2009
Revelation 4:1 is the verse upon which the pre-tribulation rapture theory is built - it is the foundation stone. Yet, upon examination of the verse itself, it becomes apparent that what the futurists proffer is simply NOT there. They commit an act of eisogesis - they read into the text something that is simply not there. This sermon exposes their bogus interpretation. The sermon then continues on verse by verse through all of chapter four.

Six Seals & the Absurdity of a Literal Interpretation - Revelation 6
Sermon by Matt Trewhella on 9/20/2009
The futurists, those who believe the things spoken of in Revelation are yet to come, say – “See, these things have not happened , have not literally happened in the earth, therefore the things spoken of in Revelation are still yet to come.” Here in chapter 6, we need to ask ourselves:
Is Jesus a literal lamb in v.1?
Are there literally four horses with riders that will literally ride across the earth spreading their destruction?
Will the black horse rider literally balance a pair of scales in his hand as he does so?
Is the quart of wheat for a denarius spoken of in v.6 a literal denarius when the denarius doesn't even exist anymore?
Are the souls of the martyrs literally kept under an altar?
Will the literal stars of heaven literally fall to the earth (when even if one star hit the earth, the earth would cease to exist)?
Will the sky literally be rolled up like a scroll and every mountain and island literally be moved out of its place?
John is employing apocalyptic judgment language here in Revelation – language which is commonly used in Scripture to speak of God's impending judgment - it is meant to be interpreted symbolically, not literally. Much more!

Reedsburg Rebuttal - The Use of Images
Sermon by Matt Trewhella on 10/15/2007
We are often attacked by Christians for displaying the images of the murdered preborn in public. In this sermon, Pastor Matt responds to a newspaper editorial by a Christian minister using Scripture to condemn such displays. The sermon reveals the need for Christians to employ a sound hermeneutic; to conduct proper exegesis; and make sure they read Scriptures in their context.

An Exegetical Eschatology - The Mt. Olivet Discourse
Sermon by Matt Trewhella on 12/2/2007
The popular eschatology of our day does not stand up to scrutiny when examined by the Word of God. In this sermon, Pastor Matt is able to present a view which takes the popular view to task. This sermon is important because what we believe theologically affects how we govern our lives – and this is true of eschatology.
The present popular eschatology has neutralized the Church, and our nation – and more importantly Christ's kingdom – is reaping the bad fruit of a 150 years of this abherrant teaching. This sermon goes through the Mt. Olivet discourse by going through Mark 13 verse by verse. Are the things spoken of by Christ in this passage yet future as many proclaim, or have they already taken place? Listen to the evidence given – and decide for yourself.

God's Blueprint for Marriage
Sermon by Matt Trewhella on 2/24/2008
This sermon examines the reciprocal relationship in marriage between a man and a woman according to God's design as revealed in Scripture. Many marriages languish precisely because they refuse to submit to God's design - choosing rather to embrace the pagan thought of the larger culture.
The Lord calls upon the bride to submit to her husband - He calls upon the groom to love his wife. It is a picture of our relationship as His bride. And in it is found the key to a fruitful marriage.

Christians, Public Policy, & Resistance - Daniel 1
Sermon by Matt Trewhella on 8/23/23
Many Christians employ the Babylonian Captivity to teach that Christians in America today should just go along to get along because we are a captive people in a pagan land. We live in a foreign land where the pagans rule. We should therefore just follow their ways, simply submit, keep to ourselves, and quietly raise our families.
This sermon offers an alternative view of the passage.

The Awful Price of Pride - Daniel 5
Sermon by Matt Trewhella on 6/8/2008
Pride is not a virtue. As Christian men and women, pride is NOT something we want to have in our hearts or demonstrate in our lives. Pride is so thick and so terrible within the heart of man that it is one of only three things the writer John needs to use to summarize all that mitigates against loving and serving God (1 John 2:15-17). Belshazzar was full of pride.

Confrontation With The State - Daniel 6
Sermon by Matt Trewhella on 7/13/2008
Daniel came into confrontation with the State. When you obey the Lord; when you stay true to Him and it brings you into conflict with the State; you will always be accused of being a scofflaw; of being treasonous; of being unpatriotic and a threat to the State. The truth is however – that we are not scofflaws. We are not treasonous.
We are not unpatriotic or a threat to the State, rather we are a benefit to the State because we expose their lawlessness; make them face the fact that they are not God; remind them that their authority has limits; and give them opportunity to recover themselves. The sermon also looks at Daniel as a magistrate in regard to the doctrine of the lesser magistrates.

The Four Watchwords of Mothers
Sermon by Matt Trewhella on 5/13/2007
This sermon begins by establishing four watchwords for good mothers, namely - sacrifice, nurture, intrepid-perseverance, and anchor - and examines these good qualities. Then the sermon turns and looks at anti-mothers - those women who do the exact opposite of these good qualities. The sermon includes a look at the life of a young woman who had a mother of this ill kind - one Lady Jane Grey who was executed at age 16 for her fealty to Christ - a fealty which she exhibited in spite of how badly her mother treated her.
