DRAMATIC moment Ukrainian rescuers fight to save hundreds feared buried alive in Borodyanka.

Emergency services worked to clear the rubble after the collapse of the two buildings, said by a resident to have been caused by a bomb dropped from a plane.

"I left approximately at 7.30am, and at quarter or ten to (8am) I was on my way back... when the plane came on and dropped a bomb," said Vadym Zagrebelnyi, who said he had several family members trapped under the rubble.

Rescuers were hoping some families had sheltered in the basement, which could have remained intact after the building collapse.

Ukraine's prosecutor general, Iryna Venediktova, said 650 dead bodies had been found in cities across the Kyiv region, including 40 children.

One of the worst affected cities in the region is Bucha, 35 kilometres northwest of the capital, where local officials have said more than 300 people were killed by Russian forces, and around 50 of them were executed.
