Sunday Longplay - Blaster Master Zero 2 - All Achievements, Both Endings, Powered-Up Gonbei & Garuda

This week on Sunday Longplay, I'm preparing for the launch of Blaster Master Zero 3 this Thursday by replaying its prequel, Blaster Master Zero 2. But that's not the only reason I'm doing this. When the game launched on Steam, I noticed a couple secrets noted in two of the achievements that I didn't even know about when I did my first Sunday Longplay of the Switch release.Show more

These two secrets come in the form of powered-up "Hard Mode" versions of the Gonbei and Garuda boss fights. Unlocking Powered-up Gonbei isn't too hard. In the dungeon on Planet Montoj where you fight him, just trample the crops. When 40% of the crops get trampled, you'll get the "Dumb Spud" achievement and Gonbei will have slightly altered dialogue calling you out for it when you face him, which will let you know you unlocked the Hard Mode boss fight. Only once you beat this version and not the Normal Mode version will you unlock the "Legendary Takeyari Master" achievement.

Unlocking Full-Power Garuda is much more complicated. When you first fight Garuda in Area D, you need to counter all of its attacks with a specific subweapon. When it dashes straight at you, use the Repulsion Upper to bounce it up off its line of attack. When it drops the mines, use the Hexa Missiles to destroy them. When it stops in front of you and fires its spread shots at you, use the Auto Cluster to destroy them and hit it in turn. When it fires its seeker shots at you from the top of the screen, use the Impact Wave to deflect all of them. Once all four enhance flags have been set, you'll unlock the "G Vs. G" achievement, and Garuda will be at full power in the rematch in Area G. Destroy the buffed version to unlock the "NORA MA-07" achievement.

Getting all of the achievements in this game also requires getting both endings. I never covered the bad ending in my first playthrough, so that will be new as well.
