Building a big deer watering hole (Twice?) & improving your hunting land (bulldozer & excavator)

Join us for some fun heavy machine action today deep in the woods of our Southern Illinois land! In today's episode we'll go back a few years and get the complete before and after picture of digging this beautiful deer watering hole (aka farm pond, small pond & wildlife scrape). The first time we dug this deer watering hole it was in March and the ground was super wet so the clay was really hard to work with. On that first dig we used a bulldozer to build the pond and it filled up in just one rain. However, I had my excavator redo the pond the next time (several months later) to move it over so that it was shaded nearly all day. To me it was well worth the cost of another hour or two of machine work to get it tucked in fully in the shade and you will get to see some before and after looks at this farm pond/deer watering hole/wildlife scrape to see just how successful it was, and it was well worth the money spent on it. If you are looking for ways of improving your hunting land, food plots for deer are great, but most people overlook the importance of having good, year round deer watering holes on their hunting land. This is on our Southern Illinois hunting land, and I will share with you my reasoning for why I built it, and you will get to see it done in two different ways; one with a bulldozer and one with an excavator. There is also a very significant reason that I put one of these next to each of my food plots that most people doing land management and habitat improvement for deer and wildlife overlook. If you build a large enough deer watering hole, you can also use it to water your food plot during times of drought! Having this ability can be a make or break for your next deer hunting season!
