More than eight police cars were needed to help round up a herd of COWS that went on the run around a town.

The group of about a dozen cows were spotted in the town of Chipping Sodbury, South Gloucestershire, last night (May 2).

Local Steve Burden was about to walk his dog when he saw blue flashing lights outside his house on Finch Road, and after peering out the window, spotted eight police cars.

He said: "One of the police cars reversed about 100 meters towards the underpass by the Tern pub, I said to a guy walking toward the police 'mate what’s going on?!'.

"I was thinking someone was being hunted, or a house had been burgled, but he shouted back 'some cows are on the loose'.

"I thought he was joking, so I grabbed the dog walked towards the underpass and the police cars were swarming, then all of a sudden about 12 or so cows appeared and went across the road towards the pub and the kebab shop.''

Steve, bewildered at the sight, said the cows got startled and fled, "hitting the police car as they left'.

He said: "The herd then ran down Heron Way towards the dual carriageway which could have been a disaster.

"They then split up and the police had to try and round them up".

Another witness Tracey Anstey, said the herd of cows ran past her house in Chipping Sodbury, as she answered door to an Uber eats driver.
