On April 10th, 2022, at approximately 12:59 AM, Atlanta Police responded to Grady Hospital in reference to an adult male victim that was dropped off at the location with apparent gunshot wounds. Despite lifesaving efforts, the victim ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the victim was originally shot at 180 Ted Turner Dr. Homicide investigators responded to the scene of the incident and took lead in the investigation.

Update:
APD’s Homicide Unit continues to raise the bar high and exceed national standards on murder cases closed by arrest. On May 3rd, 2022, homicide detectives determined that suspects Earl Wade and Meyoshia Gentry were responsible for the shooting death of the victim and warrants for murder were obtained for their arrest.

Just one day later, on May 4th, the Fugitive Unit tracked the two suspects to a home in southwest Atlanta, where they were taken into custody without incident. During the arrest, officers were notified that a 1-year-old child was in the home, and as they went into the house to get the baby, officers located two weapons on the bed next to the little boy. The weapons were recovered, and childcare was arranged, through contact with grandparents.

We applaud the work of Detective S. Benton and the entire homicide unit in identifying these dangerous suspects. We also must acknowledge the work of the Fugitive team who are on the front lines as they work in partnership with homicide and other specialized units to track these dangerous suspects and bring them into custody.

It is because of your brave work, that residents in Atlanta can sleep better at night. It is also your work that puts the criminally minded on notice that if they come to Atlanta and commit a crime, they will be found and held accountable. Job well done!
