Check out how nonchalant Luka Doncic is on this play. We freeze it here and you see he’s triple teamed, but not only he’s not worried about it, but you see that he escapes the trap and throws a no-look crosscourt pass, all the way to the corner. Klay is in the middle anticipating a kick out, but that look away fools him for just a moment, so as we let it roll, you see that he’s late on the close out, which allows Finney Smith to have an open look and knock it down.
This is just 1 of the few insane passes that Doncic had, freezing the entire defense and leading the Mavs to victory in game 4.
So let’s break them down. What up everybody, my name is Stefan and this is Heat Check. Let’s get into it.
If you thought that first pass was nice, wait till you see this off the dribble one handed laser, through the entire Golden State zone, straight to Finney Smith to the corner.
Dorian penetrates and warps the zone to the point where Bullock is wide open right here.
We got the pass, the shot, and the three.
And at the end of the game, he again goes right at the Warriors defense, so as we stop it right here, how in the world does he see Bullock in the corner through all of that traffic.
Also shoutout to Finney Smith as well for this backscreen since he knows that Luka can make any pass so all that’s needed is to get the shooters open. And he did that.
Another incredible pass at a leisurely pace by Doncic, Bullock fires away and splashes the dagger to ultimately seal this game.
The dubs may have hoped to get the sweep but instead they got front row seats to this show of casual yet flashy passes by Luka.
Moving on,Dallas won this game primarily with their blistering hot shooting from downtown.
20 from 43 that 46.5%. And to get an idea what type of night it was, look at this sequence by Dinwiddie first he dances on Curry, side steps and shoots a rainbow with a hand in his face and swishes it. So then check the clock this is just seconds later the very next possession, on the kick out Spencer heat checks it from way downtown and buries it.
Just for comparison last game, the trio of Bullock, Kleber and Finney Smith shot 2 for 17 from three and in game 4 they went a combined 12 for 20, that’s a 30 point difference right there.
And it wasn’t like Golden State was happy to win the third game on the road so they folded in this one. They were really out there battling.
Also when you have a situation like this where the ball literally would not drop and stays glued to the rim, you know you’re not gonna win.
I found it interesting that Golden State played zone 23 possessions which is by far the most out of any game in this series.
And advanced metrics show that Mavs scored on 12 points of those possessions which on 1 side, is good obviously with their hot shooting that they had, but on the other, that’s how Golden State came back to an 8 point game from down by 29. It was with the zone, when the Mavs went cold for a stretch in the 4th quarter.
So I feel like we’ll see even more zone in game 5 since role players always tend to shoot a bit worse on the road, so I feel like Steve Kerr will put that to the test.
Jason Kidd however so that as a compliment.
So yeah, let me know in the comments if Dallas can make things interesting, or will Golden State finish things off at home. That’s it for now, subscribe and talk to you in the next one. Peace out.
