Sunday afternoon at approximately 2 pm, San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District Dispatch received a report of an injured hiker on the Juniper Trail rear the summit of Mount Diablo.

CHP H-32, San Ramon Fire, and California State Parks all responded to the mountain. A State Parks Ranger made access to the patient, who was located on a steep dirt trail with access being difficult.

H-32 landed at a nearby LZ, briefed a San Ramon Fire Helicopter Rescue Technician (HRT), and hoisted the HRT member to the scene.

The patient was treated and placed into a rescue harness by the San Ramon Fire HRT member as H-32 orbited the scene. H-32 returned overhead, hoisted the HRT member and the patient approximately 65 feet from the trail to H-32.

H-32 flew the patient and the HRT member to a waiting San Ramon Valley Fire Ambulance at the valley floor where she was treated and transported to a local hospital with a severe, but non-life-threatening injury.

(A San Ramon Valley Fire Helicopter Rescue Technician (HRT), is a highly trained Firefighter/paramedic who has completed a two-day course at Golden Gate Air Ops and is required to maintain quarterly currency training with our crews. There is a competitive selection process and additional training certificates that are required prior to taking the HRT course as well,).
