The object of the game is to be the first team to score 15 points. Setup. Mark off boundaries in a rectangular shape with end zones at each end. A regulation field is 70 yards long by 40 yards wide, with end zones 20 yards deep. Split into two teams of equal size. A regulation game has seven players per team.

Each point begins with both teams lining up on the front of opposite end zone lines. The defense throws the disc to the offense, called a “pull”. The disc may be advanced in any direction by completing a pass to a teammate. Players may not run or walk with the disc, but they may pivot on one foot. The person with the disc is called the "thrower" and has ten seconds to throw the disc. The defender guarding the thrower is called the "marker" and is responsible for speaking the 10 stall count out loud.

Each time the offense catches a pass in the defense's end zone, the offense scores 1 point. The teams switch direction after every goal, and the next point begins with a new pull by the team that just scored.

A turnover occurs whenever a pass goes out of bounds, is dropped, blocked, intercepted, or stalled out for 10 seconds. The defense immediately takes possession of the disc, and becomes the offense, and may throw the disc immediately. The turnover happens wherever the disc currently is, unless the disc was thrown out of bounds, then the new offense must put the disc back into play at the spot it went out. The offense must touch the disc to the ground before throwing it.

Players not in the game may replace players in the game after a score or during an injury timeout. Players must attempt to avoid physical contact during play. Picks and screens are also prohibited. When a player initiates contact that affects the play, a foul occurs. When a foul causes a player to lose possession, the play resumes as if the possession was retained. If the player that the foul was called against disagrees, the play is redone. Players are responsible for their own foul and line calls. Players resolve their own disputes.
