VIDEO DESCRIPTION
The Revolution of 1800 brought change to the early republic. The United States was not certain a peaceful transition of power was possible. During the Election of 1800, power shifted from the John Adams, a Federalist, to Thomas Jefferson, a Democratic-Republican. When the results came out, John Adams peacefully acknowledged his defeat, and the transfer of power was accomplished without violence. This would bring in a new era under the presidency of Thomas Jefferson, the writer of the Declaration of Independence, Jefferson, a "small" government advocate would do some of the the biggest "big" government moves in American history (e.g. the Louisiana Purchase). Thomas Jefferson would have a great influence on the trajectory of the early republic, the United States of America.
