Game #33 on our list of 51 Worldwide Classics is the next sport on the list and one of three games in the collection that require the use of gimmicky controls, Bowling! In this game, players roll a large heavy ball down a wooden lane in an effort to knock down 10 pins on the other side. In each frame of a Bowling game, players get two chances to knock over as many of the 10 pins as possible. They'll receive a score equal to the number of pins knocked down after two rolls. If all 10 are knocked down, a bonus is activated. Knocking down all 10 pins on the first roll is known as a Strike, and your score for the next two rolls is added to the 10 to make your score for that frame. Knocking down all 10 on the second roll is known as a Spare, and your score for the next one roll is added to the 10 to make your score for that frame. For example: getting a spare on the first frame and then hitting 7 pins on the second frame will give you a score of 17 for the first frame. Likewise, getting 3 strikes in a row on the first three frames will score you 30 in the first frame, and rolling 12 strikes in a row is a perfect game of 300 points. You can play this either solo or against another human, but not against a CPU. In a Vs. match, whoever has the higher score wins.

On top of standard bowling, there is also a special mode called Challenge Bowling. In this mode, each frame has the 10 pins set up in different patterns, and scoring is much more straight to the point. There are no Strike or Spare bonuses and you only get one roll per frame. Again high score wins.

There are no CPU opponents to battle in this game. In order to master the game, you have to beat certain target scores in each mode (50 points in 5 frames, 100 points in 10 frames, and 80 points in Challenge Bowling). Also, the game keeps track of your high score in each mode, and each time you play it, you can unlock a piece of trivia about the game. There are three pieces of trivia about Bowling:

1. The reason real-life lanes are so shiny is the oil applied to them to make it easier for balls to slide to their destination.
2. Some people are so dedicated to the game that they have their very own ball.
3. At one time, you'd actually receive a turkey as a prize for getting three strikes in a row.

Personal story: In high school, I used to do blacklight bowling with a group of friends. I also played a round with my best friend during a vacation in Florida in 2018.
