In my final Hall of Fame voting video, I've chosen 4 time champion crew chief Kirk Shelmerdine. While his driving career is easily forgotten by many, his mark as crew chief and mechanic is significant, and deserving of a Hall of Fame spot. He began his career as a mechanic and eventually worked his way up to Crew Chief for Legendary independent owner James Harvey Hylton (R.I.P.). Then RCR hired Kirk and paired him with Dale Earnhardt Sr., and the rest is history. His greatest achievement as a driver in Cup would come in 2006 at the Daytona 500. Shelmerdine would make the race for the only time in his career in an almost unsponsored self owned Chevy, scoring a top 20 finish.
