On July 10, local time, South African police said at least 19 people were killed in two consecutive bar shootings in the country over the weekend. Among them, at least 15 people were killed in a shooting incident in Johannesburg, South Africa's largest city, in the early morning of the 10th. The head of the police in Gauteng province, where Johannesburg is located, said that the province has been plagued by similar shooting incidents recently, with gunmen roaming the streets and randomly selecting targets.
Local police said that in the early morning of the 10th, multiple gunmen arrived at a bar in Soweto, southwest of Johannesburg, and shot random customers inside, killing 12 people on the spot and three others after being taken to the hospital. The victims were mainly young people. Judging from the situation at the scene, the attackers used large-caliber guns.

The police chief of Gauteng Province, where Johannesburg is located, Marvela said on the same day that the preliminary investigation showed that the bar had a business license and was open within the specified time, and the gunman randomly selected the target.

In addition, on the evening of the 9th local time, a shooting occurred in a bar in the eastern city of Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, killing at least four people. Police have found similarities between the two incidents, but have been unable to establish a link, according to AFP. In both incidents, the attackers fired random shots at the crowd inside the bar and fled after committing the crime.
