Qatar to ban on-field drinking at World Cup, foreign media say
1 year ago
The 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the first time FIFA will be held in a country with strict alcohol restrictions, presents a unique challenge for the organisers of the grand event. While FIFA's website advertises free alcohol in stadium reception rooms, alcohol will not be sold to fans in stadiums during the World Cup in December.
A source with knowledge of the football match plans said alcohol will not be allowed at the Qatar World Cup Stadium, with beer sold outside the stadium only before and after some games, and will not be served during games or in stadium bowls. The relationship between football and alcohol has long been a thorny issue.
