How do you know how much THC and CBD is in your weed?

For many of you, your knowledge of cannabis may only extend to the fact that when smoked, it gets you high.

Some users will go as far as to say that some types of cannabis will get you more stoned than others, but that is a bit like saying that some beers get you pissed more quickly than others. It’s all about the strength.

However, with cannabis, that isn’t exactly true.

Some of you may well know that it is the THC, one of over 100 cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant, that is actually responsible for the ‘high’ associated with the drug.

There again, because CBD, another cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant, is responsible for the mellow side of things, then the high you get from cannabis is the result of the ‘balance’ created by the combined levels of THC and CBD.

So, in simple terms, the higher the levels of CDB and lower the levels of CBD, the more aggressive and high the actual high from smoking that cannabis will be.

But how do you know what these levels are. After all, unlike brewing beer, which involves exact measurements of time, ingredients and temperatures, growing cannabis produces different results under different conditions.

Pharmaceutical-grade CBD products have to accurately indicate the levels of that cannabinoid, which makes sense when, for many, it is taken for medicinal purposes.

So, let’s say you want to smoke some cannabis to help you with feelings of anxiety. Research shows that CBD is good for treating anxiety, yet THC most definitely isn’t good. Maybe now you will understand the importance of knowing how strong the levels of both those cannabinoids are in your cannabis.

Thanks to careful breeding and the creation of new strains of cannabis, it is now possible to buy cannabis where, while the levels aren’t totally accurate, you know if what you are going to be smoking is richer in THC or CBD.

Basically, it’s all in the name and the strain.

Sativa cannabis strains are more usually associated with the “head high”, while indicas are richer in CBD and more the stuff or body relaxation.

To give you some examples, if you are looking for cannabis that has a THC content in the region of 20% (that’s loads of THC!), then Kosher Kush, Ghost OG and Bruce Banner should be ‘high’ on your shopping list.

If you are more of a CBD fan, then Ringo’s gift is great with a 24:1 CBD to THC ratio, or ACDC which has a 20:1 CBD to THC ratio.

So, when you want to know how much CBD or THC is in your weed, the answer is usually in the name…
