Kitchen disaster! Eggs-plosion!

Hello, this is Lori Fiechter with a different kind of kitchen video. It is a “learn-from-our-mistake video so you don’t have to go out and buy a new microwave tomorrow.” Rather specific, granted, but you’ll see what I mean…

I was making potato salad and needed some hard-cooked eggs. Stan had been making them in the microwave and they turned out perfect; peeled great too. Something went terribly, terribly wrong, though. Maybe it was because I handed him a glass lid for the Corningware dish and he didn't usually put a lid on the eggs. Or maybe it really was because he didn't add the tablespoon of salt to the egg water.

All I know is that I was peeling potatoes with my back turned to the microwave when suddenly there was a loud explosion, the microwave door burst open from the inside (just like Mike and Sully in Monsters University!), the corning dish split into two halves and cooked egg fragments were...EVERYWHERE!

My family did not understand why I screamed so loudly if I wasn't hurt! Students understand (Right, Cole?) One of my sons said my scream was "excessive." I told him self-righteously, "Well, you've never stood with your back to the microwave when there was such an explosion that the door blew open!"

I rest my case. Stan and I cleaned up the mess. Well, it was mostly Stan. I was video-taping the end result! He kept saying "Only 17 more seconds to go until they were done! Rats!)" He thinks he can fix the microwave if he just gets the right tools. But in the meantime, we went to Best Buy and bought one on sale. Expensive boiled eggs!!
