Afghan army retakes provincial capital from Taliban
"The forces of Afghanistan's First Vice President Amrullah Saleh have regained control of the Charikar district, the capital of Parwan province. The two sides are currently fighting fiercely in the Panjshir district," the source said, according to the report.
It is reported that Charikar is the capital of Parwan Province, and the strategic road connecting Kabul with Mazar-e-Sharif, the largest city in northern Afghanistan, passes through the city.
The source also revealed that "10,000 fighters", the Afghan government soldiers who refused to surrender, were carrying weapons, and the troops of General Dostum were on their way to Panjshir province, preparing to join the local armed forces to resist the Taliban.
Saleh previously claimed that unlike President Ghani, who fled Afghanistan, he stayed in Afghanistan, where he is now the legitimate interim president under the constitution without a president, and called on Afghans to "join the resistance" against the Taliban.
After taking control of the capital Kabul earlier, Taliban spokesman Mohammad Naeem said "the war in Afghanistan is over".
According to a report by "Russia Today" (RT) on August 17, Afghanistan "changed the sky", Josep Borrell, the European Union's high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, admitted on August 16, "The Taliban won the war, so we must not Don't talk to them."
