Day 7 Liquid Fast

Things are about the same as yesterday, no major changes to report in how I feel. I have added in a little iodized salt (also drinking coffee/yerba mate and neem teas today so far, I drink them brewed together in a coffee maker)

I also added in a potassium citrate quick release, I am adding in more than one a day, perhaps two or three a day until I get other sources of potassium in as I am well below the RDIs.

I will likely continue to add in trace minerals and micronutrients that are only water soluble as time continues over week 2, as I gradually reintroduce constituents while still keeping to a liquid fast. Currently I am aiming at reintroducing whole food smoothies in week 3 - think baby food, but likely will be more initially proteins shakes/uncooked egg etc.. and my first whole foods will likely be beans/lentils that are sprouted and / or spouted and cooked. I'll look into that more prior to getting there. The fast is getting easier every day and this is why I am greater looking at methods of safe transition and still reaping health benefits while avoiding any health risks.
My belief is the majority of people can do a 1 week fast with no adverse health effects, and that people that have fat stores can probably due a 2 week fast if they also insure that water soluble micronutrient/vitamins are supplemented, and that a 3 week or longer liquid diet is doable but by that point you are probably eating low nutrient food in a liquid form. I do think thought that switching between anabolic and catabolic states is situation dependent and much like running insulin constantly, there is also long term risks of running ketones constantly - I just don't know what they are yet, other than acidification or effect on kidneys but need to look at that in more detail. With that said if you assume about 3000 calories per lb of fat there are upward limits depending on what percentage of fat your body has and what weight you are. For instance if I am 15% body fat and weight 240lbs then I have maybe somewhere around 20lbs of fat to loose depending on what you consider safe body fat percentage.. and saying that you might have 60,000 calories and that means if you have a basal of say 2000 calories then you have up to 1 month of fasting that works out to 30 days, and that is a generalization. Obviously I am using this fasting experience to learn more about my own body and physiology and nutrition. I am not a novice to nutrition and have been reading bits and bites about it for well over a decade. Still it is more and more apparent that long term / extended / prolonged liquid fasts, particularly low or 0 calorie fasts should be very carefully approached and where possible under medical supervision. Personally I am my own primary care medical expert, I consider doctors to be an emergency resource when the body isn't working correctly, and I don't consider fasting to be incorrect body function, it is just a different way for the body to function correctly. There are incorrect functions that can occur while fasting however such as natremia and others, so watching out for these things and seeking care if your body does start misfunctioning is important. Knowing the signs for disfunction due to deficiency, or deficiency or failure driven physiological processes is a bit like understanding the root causes or at least the home of illness or disease. For me this fasting experience is experiential and overall seen as a beneficial adventure, not a risky life threatening and irresponsible activity. As always treat your body respectfully and do no harm. Heal and be well.
