Tuberculosis (TB) is the most deadly bacterial disease in the world. It’s estimated that it kills 1.8 million people every year worldwide.

It’s also estimated that about 25% of the population has been infected with TB in its latent form. Latent TB doesn’t cause any symptoms and is not infectious.

Only 5 to 10% of tuberculosis cases are active. But, 50% of people with an active infection who aren’t given any tuberculosis treatment die.

Symptoms of tuberculosis (the active form):
• A chronic cough
• Mucus containing blood
• A fever
• Back pain
• Weight loss
• Night sweats

What’s often missing when dealing with an infection is a healthy immune system. There is a lot of focus on treatments rather than supporting the immune system.

The problem with the typical treatment for tuberculosis is that you’re given antibiotics for months and risk developing antibiotic resistance. People with antibiotic resistance are more vulnerable to getting a secondary infection, primarily a yeast infection. Another big problem with antibiotics is that they have potential side effects that can affect a person’s brain and cognitive function.

Top causes of an increased risk of tuberculosis:
• Living in the northern hemisphere
• The winter months
• Low vitamin D
• Vitamin D receptor polymorphism
• Post-traumatic stress syndrome (high cortisol)
• Age
• Chemotherapy
• Steroids

Vitamin D is the most important vitamin for your immune system. Sun exposure is vital for healthy levels of vitamin D. The sun also provides exposure to infrared light and UV light.

For a maintenance dose, you may want to consider taking as much as 10,000 IU of vitamin D3. If you’re looking for potential natural remedies for tuberculosis, you may want to increase the amount of vitamin D3 you take to 30,000 or even 40,000 IU.
