Inflammation is the process in which our body responds to any foreign agent, insult, or injury. Foreign agents in the body can be microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, viruses, and protozoans. Due to any of the outside causes, the body reacts by starting an inflammatory process. It is usually good for the body. Due to an inflammatory reaction, the healing process in the body starts. Our daily intake of foods and diets is directly related to the inflammatory processes in the body. Inflammation can be short-lived or chronic that persists for months and years. Foods that we take significantly affect inflammatory reactions in the body. Some disease conditions such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular complications, and IBD are correlated with intake of foods and inflammation in the body. There are certain foods such as sugar, high-yield corn syrup, trans fats, oils, refined carbohydrates, processed meat, and excessive alcohol intake that cause inflammation in the body. Sugar and high fructose corn syrups are leading causes of inflammation in the body. Table sugar has 55% sugar content in it. Similarly, corn syrup contains more than 50% fructose. These two are super rich in sugar. Which in turn acts as an antioxidant. Antioxidants aggravate inflammation. Soda drinks and fizzy drinks are rich sources of sugar. Sugar causes obesity, chronic kidney disease, cardiovascular diseases, and renal failure in the long run. Fructose is present in corn syrup. It causes insulin resistance. Similarly, pastries, cakes, doughnuts, and chocolates also cause inflammation in the body. Unsaturated trans fatty acids also induce inflammatory reactions in the body. Margarine, popcorn, french fries, and baked foods contain trans fats. So these foods should be taken with some caution. Soybean oil is the kind of vegetable oil that promotes inflammation. Similarly, Omega 6 are saturated fatty acids. These cause joint disorders such as arthritis and osteoporosis. Western diets are unfortunately rich in such fatty acids. Refined drinks are richly supplied with sugar content. Uncontrolled sugar causes diabetes, chronic kidney disease, and obesity. These complications are the outcome of Inflammatory reactions due to such diets.
