Nile Monitor Lizard | Maasai Mara Safari | Zebra Plains

The Nile monitor lizard is an often overlooked reptile in the Mara, wit crocodiles getting most of the attention in their habitat. This monitor was out and about looking for eggs, the thick-knees (birds) were very defensive of their nesting area. Nile monitors are one of the biggest predators of crocodile eggs and the fact this one ignored the birds makes me think it was on the lookout for a croc nest.
