✍️ Summary:
After conducting four surveys on the frequency of daytime naps between 2006 and 2019, each with some 5,000 participants, they self-reported napping "never/rarely," "sometimes," or "frequently."
The results surprised many, including people in the medical fraternity. In the study, people who regularly napped had a 12 percent higher risk of acquiring high blood pressure and a 24 percent higher risk of suffering a stroke compared to those who never slept during the daytime.
Furthermore, participants under the age of 60 who napped frequently had a 20% higher risk of developing hypertension than those of the same age who never slept. After 60, regular napping was associated with a 10% higher risk of hypertension than never napping.
The researchers eliminated individuals at high risk for hypertension, such as those with type 2 diabetes, existing high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep difficulties, and night-shift work, yet these results remained unchanged.
The most startling fact is that ordinary people without any predetermined disease or with any medical symptoms showed the potential for stroke or hypertension.
