Serious Sam The Second Encounter (2002) Level 1 Gameplay

Not a perfect run, but I got curious to see what would happen if I put a PC Game Disk from 2002 into my current windows 10 rig, and install it. I was incredibly surprise to see that without any patches, or mods, this game installed, and played just fine on a computer 20 years in the future from when it released. Pretty awesome if you ask me.

The Only downside is the game resets to 640x480 every time I boot it up, but I think I'm accidentally booting it up into safe mode. I have to reset the resolution settings. I did a test run using fraps of all things to see the frames per second, and it was anywhere between 400-700 with everything maxed out. However, when recording this footage, it seems like the game bogged down a bit, but sometimes compatibility issues with old games can do that. My PC may not be the greatest by today's standards, but it is a futuristic supercomputer compared to a 2002 PC this game was meant to run on.

I love the Serious Sam series, and The Second Encounter was my introduction to the series, being my first one. Retro throwback FPS games my be trendy nowadays, but Croteam was one of the first developers to do a throwback FPS game in the era of Halo, Half-Life, and a new generation of FPS games and designs. Serious Sam's Arcadey gameplay was seen as a throwback to Doom at the time, and Croteam was also an Indie developer.

The Irony being, this is a Boomer Shooter throwback that is so old that now other indie devs can now make an indie shooter throwback in the style of Serious Sam.
