March 28, 2020: Two men who led law enforcement from across Ohio on a chase from the Dayton area to downtown Cincinnati were connected to a homicide investigation in Trotwood.

Court documents said William Denny III was behind the wheel of a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis when Miamisburg police tried to pull him over on Elkins Avenue. Dustin Hatfield, Sr. was in the passenger seat.

Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers took over the chase as the pair crossed into Warren County on I-75 southbound. Dashboard camera video shows a 28-minute chase.

According to the video and criminal complaints, law enforcement tried multiple times to use spike strips on the sedan. In the video, you can see what appears to be both passenger side tires blow out during the chase.

But the men kept fleeing, often recklessly through traffic. At one point, video shows the car swerve at the last minute to avoid hitting a tanker truck. Minutes later, the pair drives between two vehicles, missing them by inches.

According to court documents, Hatfield threw a Samsung cell phone out the passenger side window, toward the pursuing trooper.

The chase ended with another tire blowout and Denny losing control on the off-ramp to 2nd Street. The Mercury can be seen slamming into a wall before coming to a smoking stop in the middle of the road. Both men fall out of the car with their hands above their heads as troopers swoop in.

Denny was arrested and charged with failure to order or signal of a police officer.

Hatfield was arrested and charged with tampering with evidence.

Trotwood police said the two men were connected to an investigation of the murder of 41-year-old David Robinson; As of now, the pair don't face any charges in the investigation.
