This is a story of a crystal ball. In southern India there was a small village whose inhabitants were very cheerful. The children played in the shade of the trees in the gardens of their houses. A cowherd boy named Gopal stayed near the village with his father, mother and grandmother. Every morning he led his herd of goats into the mountains to find a suitable place to graze. In the afternoon he will return to the village with them. Every night his grandmother told him a story - the story of the stars. Gopal was very interested in this story. On one such day, while Gopal was watching his flock and playing his flute, he suddenly saw a wonderful light behind a bush of flowers. As he approached the bush, he saw a transparent and very beautiful crystal ball. The crystal ball shone like a multicolored rainbow. Gopal picked it up carefully and turned it over. Surprised, he suddenly heard a faint voice coming from the crystal ball. It said, "You can make a wish that your heart desires, and I will grant it." Gopal couldn't believe he had actually heard the voice. When he was convinced that he had really heard that voice from the crystal ball, he was very embarrassed. He had so many desires that he couldn't decide on one particular desire. He said to himself, "If I wait until tomorrow, I'll remember a lot. Then I make my wish." He put the crystal ball in a sack and, having gathered the flock, happily returned to the village. He decided not to tell anyone about the crystal ball. Also Gopal couldn't decide what he wanted the next day, because he really had everything he needed. The days passed as usual, but Gopal still could not fulfill his wish. But he seemed very happy. Those around him were amazed to see the change in his mood. One day the boy followed Gopal and his flock and hid behind a tree. Gopal sat in a corner as usual, took out a crystal ball and studied it for a few moments. The boy waited for the moment when Gopal would fall asleep. When Gopal fell asleep after a while, the boy took the crystal ball and ran away. When he got to the village, he called everyone and showed them the crystal ball. The residents of this village took the crystal ball in their hands and turned it over in surprise. Suddenly they heard a voice in the crystal ball saying, "I can grant your wish." One person grabbed the ball and shouted, "I want a bag of gold." Another took the ball and said loudly, "I want two chests full of jewels." Some of them wished to have their own palace with a solid gold front door instead of their old houses. Some others wanted bags full of jewelry. All their wishes were granted, but the villagers were still unsatisfied. They were jealous because the man who had a palace had no gold and the man who had gold had no palace. Because of this, the villagers got angry with each other and stopped talking to each other. The gardens in the village where children used to play no longer existed. There were palaces and gold everywhere. The children were terribly excited. Only Gopal and his family were happy and content. He played the flute every morning and afternoon. One day the village children brought the crystal ball to Gopal. The children said to Gopal, "When we had a small village, we were all happy and joyful." The parents spoke too. They said, "One way or another, we are all unhappy. Luxurious palaces and decorations only bring us pain.” Seeing that people were genuinely sorry, Gopal said, "Even though the crystal ball asked me to make a wish, I still haven't done it. But if you really want everything to fall back into place, then I will. wish it." Everyone happily agreed. Gopal picked up a crystal ball, turned it over and wished the village would go back to how it was before. In the blink of an eye the palaces disappeared, green gardens appeared and the same old village full of trees remained. Again the people lived happily and the children played in the shade of the trees. Gopal continued his peaceful life every day, playing his flute at sunset. Its sweet sound could be heard throughout the beautiful green village.
