MapleStory, it’s probably one of the most comfy MMORPGs I can think of, boot it up, hear that relaxing nostalgic music kick in and get transported back to the mid-2000s during the glory days of MMOs, when life was simpler, games felt more magical and we didn’t have such a min max culture where everyone knew everything as soon as a new update was released.
People often laud games like World of Warcraft and RuneScape for being around so long but another old school MMO that’s sometimes overlooked in this regard is the king of 2d MMO side scrollers, Maple Story which as of 2023 will be approaching its 20th anniversary.
MapleStory had a massive impact on not just the MMORPG genre over the years, but gaming as a whole, due to it being the first online game to popularize the free to play business model at a time when every MMO was subscription based.

In this video we’re gonna take a trip down memory lane and talk about the long history of MapleStory, the epic moments, the unique features, It’s 19 years’ worth of content updates as well as the current state of the game and why even after all this time, people are still playing and enjoying this nostalgic MMO.
