After returning to full training on Saturday, Karim Benzema continued with his fight to get back to full fitness at Real Madrid City on Monday. The 35-year-old was in the initial French World Cup squad but was ruled out of the tournament after tearing a muscle in his thigh during a training session, 1 day before the kick off. It was Benzema's first full training session with the Le Blues having been doing individual drills before that. An MRI scan at a clinic in Doha confirmed a tear in his quadriceps and revealed that Benzema would need 3 weeks to recover. As such, the 2022 Ballon d'Or winner announced his exit from the French World Cup team in order to begin rehabilitation in Spain. 3 weeks later, Benzema is back to training at Real Madrid and the French are in the World Cup semifinals. While the forward might feel like a missed opportunity given that France might win this World Cup, it was an unselfish gesture from Benzema to put the team before his personal glory.
