An automatic car wash should not be a problem. In a perfect world, the driver stops, pays, and rests for five minutes while the "magic hands" do their thing. Unfortunately, we don't live in a pretty world, and as a man from Pennsylvania recently discovered, automatic car washes can be anything but a hassle.

Local news is sharing video of the incident, which shows the driver speeding to wash the car before hitting the metal and rolling over. It seems that the man mistakenly turned on the gas while entering the bathroom, which caused the car to be damaged in the interior.

Later footage shows a silver Toyota with a bed on its side at a car wash in Colmar, Pennsylvania. The 77-year-old driver was trapped inside the car, requiring a 90-minute rescue effort. They then hit the roof of the car to get out. He was taken to a local hospital, where he is expected to recover. Unsurprisingly, passers-by were shocked by what they had just seen, one man said: "I can't imagine how to turn a car into a car wash."

The owner of the car wash is thankful he was not seriously injured, and acknowledges the impact the accident will have on his business. "We're relieved no one was seriously hurt," he told WPVI 6 Action News. “This is a very unfortunate accident for our customers and our facilities. Being a small business owner isn't easy, and an accident like this doesn't make it any easier. He said car wash customers, staff and support groups will help him in that situation.

The number of injuries and deaths in car washes is small, but there are reports of people being seriously injured and killed. In April 2022, a man died after leaving his car at an automatic car wash. He got out of his car and found himself in the middle of the shower. In 2020, another man died at a car wash in Texas. While working at the laundry, the man was trapped inside the machine.
