This video is a preview of what we think is the most exciting 5000m race start list in history. We're not talking in terms of time, but rather in terms of the names within the race. `Featuring Jakob Ingebrigtsen, Nico Young, Josh Kerr, Joe Klecker, Edward Cheserek, and many more. It includes the Sit and kick podcast, NAU runners and a member of the Coffee Club podcast. Not to mention countless NCAA winners in the 3000m, 5000m and 10000m and even a multiple NCAA xc winner in Conner Mantz.

The Men’s 5000m – After a star studded field was coming together, one surprise entry was added to the list on the 27th of April. That was Jakob Ingebrigtsen. Not only is this the Olympic champions first non diamond league race in the US since his amazing performance at Payton Jordan where he took down the likes of Matthew Centrowitz, Craig Engels and Paul Chelimo, whilst only being 17 years old, but is it his first outdoor race of the 2022 season, in an event where he ran a European record of 12:48 last season. No we’re not expecting another European record since he is the fastest in the field by 14 seconds, but why is Jakob being in this race specifically so exciting.

The main benefit of Jakob Ingebrigtsen being in this race is the people he’s competing against and the content/excitement we will see surrounding the event. First of all, for viewing figures Jakob can move numbers and since this meet has a Pay Per View format, it should be the first time where we can see the power and positive benefit this method has on the sport, in terms of the generation of revenue.

Back to Jakob’s competition. Drew Hunter, Sam Parsons, Josh Kerr, David Ribbich and Joe Klecker are some that stand out, maybe not because they are his main challenges in this distance but because they are all connected to content creation in the sport. Drew Hunter and Sam Parsons are obviously part of tinman elite, Josh Kerr and David Ribbich are hosts of the Sit and kick podcast and Joe Klecker has connection with the Coffee Club podcast. They’ll be lots of hype and content from them surrounding this race.

We will be doing an Trackstaa Arm sleeves giveaway plus a custom sports card of the winner of this race. So, comment your predictions below including who will win the race and the time. If you guess the correct winner and time to the second, you will win! As long as you’re subscribed to us and have liked the video.

This race also features an NAU trio of Nico Young, Drew Bosley and Abdihamid Nur, the later being double indoor NCAA champion. Also, NCAA champions Patrik Dever and Conner Mantz are featured. And to add the cherry on top Edwar Cheserek and Hassan Mead make the lineup. It feels as If you got track and field fans to make a fantasy 5000m race, this would be it. Without the addition of some Nike athletes who don’t like to race without a controlled environment.

That’s a joke. We were against the idea of Cooper Teare and Cole Hocker specifically not racing the Penn relays, but honestly, we’re now in full support of the Heyward field prioritisation. Afterall they are previous Oregon ducks and I think this connection just adds excitement for this year’s World championships as well as growing Cooper and Cole’s brand of being the perfect Nike athletes being a company that was founded and has head offices in Oregon. Bowerman Track club on the other hand, please get Mo Ahmed and Grant Fischer entered so we can see them race Jakob, thank you.

Whilst we’re on about the Ingebrigtsen’s Henrik Ingebrigtsen is actually racing today at Payton Jordan in the 5000m as well. A race he has won previously. I would say go watch it, but it’s on Flotrack, so don’t…

And staying on the Ingebrigtsen subject we made a video about the training methods they use which you can watch here! Remember to comment your time predictions.
