Chinese researchers have claimed that they've been able to use quantum computers to break encryption, which is a big deal because encryption helps keep our information safe from hackers and bad actors. In a "scientific paper" released last month, the researchers claimed to have used a quantum computer with just 10 qubits to factor a number with 48 bits. In fact, Andre Konig, the CEO and co-founder of Global Quantum Intelligence, called the announcement "the largest fraud he has seen in roughly 25 years." Konig argues that the paper's claims lack a proof of concept and are just hype-driven spins on already established methodology and approaches.
