The Power Of Any Thought | #shorts

Thoughts can cause so much distress. The power of any thought is in how much we buy into it as meaningful truth or fact.

So if your thoughts are causing you distress, it makes sense to check out just how much we should believe in the thought. We can do this with a few different methods:

1. Thought challenging: this is where you put the thought to the test. List out the evidence for and against that thought being fact. Sometimes this can be enough to loosen off your belief in a thought that may have been biased. If this process leads to internal arguments with yourself about whether a thought is fact, then try the next method.

2. Practice being mindful of the thoughts. Observe them rather than getting caught up in it. Notice it’s effect on you. View it as an experience washing over you, rather than a part of you. Acknowledge that this is one version of reality, one idea, one theory. Then come back to the here and now. If doing this is difficult it can be helpful to write the thoughts down. This is called thought defusion, which means getting instuck from a thought so that it has less power of you and your actions.

If you find these difficult to do alone you can get a therapist to support you.
