Now in it's second iteration, the Cache Basecamp Pad 2.0 see's a few changes over its predecessor but remains very similar. Cache uses a thermoform process in constructing the pad that allows it to mold to any tailgate its drape over...over time. The exterior uses a tough, weather-resistant material while the interior uses a soft microfiber liner. For better or worse, the pad measures in at a mere 50" wide in effort to be a one-size-fits-all tailgate pad and capable of holding 5 bikes (claimed).

Securing the Basecamp Pad to the tailgate are some of the best straps in the bunch. The straps get dropped in from the inside of the bed and slide onto G-hooks on the front (rear-facing) portion of the pad. Unfortunately, there are only two of these straps in addition to the thick, anti-theft strap. The anti-theft strap is made up of two, industrial grade nylon straps that sandwich a steel wire bead fastened to a locking carabiner. Securing the bikes to the tailgate is a single, strap that goes from end-to-end. Accessing the tailgate handle and backup camera is made simple with the Cache's easily removeable panel.

Though we opted to just receive the Basecamp Pad 2.0, Cache does offer it as a "system." The System comes with two folding chairs and a 24 hour backpack cooler that can be mounted to the hooks on the bed-facing portion of the tailgate pad. The system comes in at a retail price of $325 while just the Basecamp Pad itself retails for $230.
