It's hard to believe what a monster the Nintendo Game Boy was back in the day. Featuring over 1000 cartridges, it can be argued that without the Game Boy we wouldn't have the Switch. One of the amazing things about the Game Boy is how many other systems could play it's cartridges. let's take a look.

Game Boy Pocket & Game Boy Color
The first hardware revisions for the platform, both the GP Pocket & GBC featured improved designs and, in the case of the GBC, an updated color display!

Super Game Boy
Playing Game Boy games on TV became a reality with the Super Game Boy for SNES & Super Famicom. With this adapter you could enjoy the full Game Boy library on your television! The original Super Game Boy did play games with a slightly faster clock speed, which is why they came out with the Super Game Boy 2 in Japan. You could even play link cable games on the Super Game Boy 2!

Game Boy Advance & Game Boy Advance SP
The first true successor to the Original Game Boy, the GBA & GBA SP featured their own library of games with imported graphics. while the GBA games were about ½ the length, they had the same width and pin size of the original Game Boy. When Nintendo announced this system would also be backwards compatible with the full Game Boy and Game Boy Color library it was a big deal. This system would launch with thousands of games playable!

GameCube Game Boy Player
Nintendo provided Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance support for the GameCube with the Game Boy Player. This played all Game Boy games and provided fun display overlays and borders. In recent years, the cost of the Game Boy player has shot up, making it an expensive investment.
