A little over a week after law enforcement chased and shot a man accused of killing his girlfriend in Sacramento County, the Elk Grove Police Department on Friday released body-worn camera footage of the shooting and the moments before it happened.

Devian Lewis, 22, faces homicide charges, felony evasion of police and brandishing an imitation firearm charges.

The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said Lewis is suspected of stabbing his 18-year-old girlfriend before running her over with a vehicle. The woman, identified as Saraiah Acosta, was found dead on Feb. 3 in the 3000 block of Ramsgate Way at 1:15 p.m. Deputies who found her body found multiple stab wounds. Acosta and Lewis are believed to have been in an on-and-off relationship for the last two years.

Hours later, Lewis led officers from Elk Grove police, the sheriff's office and the California Highway Patrol on a chase until he crashed in Elk Grove and was pinned down, according to authorities.

A video released by Elk Grove police also revealed that the pursuit actually began in Fairfield. That chase continued through Interstate 80, and Elk Grove police said they were told by the Fairfield Police Department at 4:40 p.m. that a man armed with a handgun was approaching the city of Elk Grove.

Elk Grove police said Lewis exited southbound Highway 99 at Cosumnes Boulevard and continued on southbound Bruceville Road until he crashed approaching Bruceville Road at Big Horn Boulevard. That is when the shooting happened shortly afterward.
