Moom masur ki daal recipe

Here is a simple recipe for Moom Masur ki Daal, which is a popular lentil dish in Pakistan and India:

Ingredients:

1 cup moong dal (split yellow lentils)
1/2 cup masoor dal (split red lentils)
1 onion, finely chopped
2 tomatoes, chopped
1 green chili, finely chopped
1 tsp ginger, grated
1 tsp garlic, minced
1 tsp cumin seeds
1 tsp turmeric powder
1 tsp red chili powder
1 tsp garam masala
1 tsp salt (or to taste)
4 cups water
2 tbsp ghee (clarified butter)
Fresh coriander leaves, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions:

Wash and soak the moong dal and masoor dal in water for 30 minutes. Then, drain the water.

In a pressure cooker, heat the ghee and add cumin seeds. When they start to splutter, add the chopped onions, green chili, ginger, and garlic. Sauté until the onions turn golden brown.

Add the chopped tomatoes and cook for 2-3 minutes until they become soft and pulpy.

Add the drained lentils to the pressure cooker and stir well.

Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, garam masala, and salt to taste. Mix well.

Pour in 4 cups of water and mix well.

Close the pressure cooker lid and cook on high heat until you hear one whistle. Then, reduce the heat to low and cook for another 5 minutes.

Turn off the heat and allow the pressure to release naturally.

Open the lid and check the consistency of the dal. If it's too thick, add some more water and stir well.

Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with rice or roti.
