Beautiful Day On The Homestead Building Potting Table & More

It was a beautiful and sunny day at The Off Grid Project. I spread some mulch around the trees and started working on a potting table for our winter greenhouse.

We have been blessed with very nice weather so far this winter. It was about 60 degrees when I was spreading mulch on the trees. The solar power battery bank was topping off nicely as well.

I had some mulch left on the truck from when I spread it on the greenhouse floor. So I put the rest around some of my fruit trees. This will protect the roots from the winter freeze and break down to provide nutrients for spring growth.

Meanwhile Chris was working on our water tank. This is an old 275 gallon IBC tote which we use to haul water from the creek. We use this for watering our animals and for washing clothes.

Melanie wanted to wash clothes on this beautiful day so Chris made the top opening larger to fit our water pump. Then we put the tank on the truck with a small generator and hoses and Chris took it down to get us some water.

After I finished using up the mulch I started work on a recycled barn wood potting table for our off grid winter greenhouse.

I need to set up some solar panels and a battery bank for the greenhouse. So I am building a multi purpose potting table which will hold our off grid solar battery bank.

The solar power will run the aquaponics system and some lights so that we can extend our winter working hours in the greenhouse.

I am using the old barn wood pile which I got about two years ago. This is very good old wood which I use for many projects out here on the homestead.

The potting table will have three shelves. The lower shelf will hold our battery bank for the aquaponics system. The middle shelf will be our potting table and work bench. The top shelf will be narrower and will hold some small tools and pots.

I am building the entire potting bench to fit Melanie comfortably. I have always been used to making things taller and now that I am married, I have to think about Melanie's height.

I ran out of time and had to leave so I did not finish the table on this day. I will finish it tomorrow.

Chris was also working on our old chicken tractor. We are going to cut the chicken coop off the top of the chicken tractor and move it into the larger chicken run for the birds to use and nest in this winter.

This chicken tractor is getting old and the base is not so stable anymore. So it is time to repurpose the chicken house on top.
