Cold Day Sorting Fire Wood & Melanie Baking

It started out a very cold day with 26 degrees outside and only 49 F inside the tiny house. We had some warmer weather so we let the wood stove go out while we were out hiking and camping over the weekend.

When we were out hiking the temperatures dropped severely and the off grid tiny house on wheels got very cold. When we returned to the tiny house we had to get the heat going again.

The greenhouse was ten degrees F over the outside temperature though with no heat besides the sun during the day. This is a very good thing to see. When I get the wood stove installed then I believe that I can maintain a very good temperature inside the off grid greenhouse during the cold winter nights.

Chris has been sorting fire wood for us to use this winter. The chickens had been nesting in the wood pile during their free running time and made a mess of it all.

And we are now looking for cured fire wood to heat the off grid tiny house with. We have tons of fresh cut wood from this year but not much cured fire wood for immediate use.

Chris is sorting the wood piles to get out the cured fire wood for us to burn this winter. There are also some dead standing trees that we need to go out and cut down for burning this year.

For now I have been burning the pallet wood chunks that Chris cut up for us this summer. This has been the main source of heat in the tiny home this year so far and it is working well for us.

The electric fence is up and running well. I believe that these things work because I have never lost a single bird while the electric fence was on and working.

My goldfish in the future aquaponics tank are happy and well. They were eating this afternoon while I had my camera on them. They are really enjoying the space in their new tank.

I plan to get some batteries in the greenhouse and get some solar panels and power going out there soon. Then I will run an aerator for the fish until I get the aquaponics system going full blast.

I have most of the plumbing that I need for it. I only have to get it all connected and running.

Melanie and I went out hiking and camping this weekend as I said earlier. We have some new gear we are testing out and reviewing. Plus we just wanted to see if we could manage camping out in 32 degrees F weather during the night.

Melanie did very well and showed her skills at survival and fire starting. She really had a good time. Melanie also shared some of her stories of her childhood years when she would go out with her father into the mountains for weeks at a time. She is happy to be able to put those skills she learned into real world use.

I spent some time in my survival truck camper sorting out my hiking and survival gear and putting things away after the weekend trip.

Melanie has been baking and cooking all day in the off grid tiny house on wheels. She is so happy and bubbly all day long. She is really a good cook and enjoys what she is doing.
