Bangkok is often called the "Venice of the East" due to its many canals and waterways.

The city has the longest name in the world, which is made up of 168 letters in Thai. It translates to "The city of angels, the great city, the residence of the Emerald Buddha, the impregnable city of God Indra, the grand capital of the world endowed with nine precious gems, the happy city, abounding in an enormous Royal Palace that resembles the heavenly abode where reigns the reincarnated god, a city given by Indra and built by Vishnukarn."

The famous tourist attraction, the Grand Palace, was built in 1782 and served as the official residence of the Kings of Siam until 1925.

Bangkok is home to the world's largest solid gold Buddha statue, which is located at the Wat Traimit temple.

The city's main street, Thanon Ratchadamnoen, was modeled after the Champs-Élysées in Paris.

Bangkok has some of the best street food in the world, with popular dishes including Pad Thai, Tom Yum soup, and Green Curry.

The city has the world's largest outdoor market, the Chatuchak Weekend Market, which covers 35 acres and has over 15,000 stalls.
