The saltwater crocodile is considered a reptile belonging to the Crocodilia family, along with alligators, crocodiles, caimans, and gharials. Crocodiles and alligators are typically confused but still have clear differences. Crocodiles have longer and smaller heads compared to alligators, and their noses are usually pointed instead of being rounded. Crocodile lower jaws have the same width as their upper jaws, which suggests that their upper and lower teeth are visible when their mouths are closed. On the other hand, the lower jaw of crocodiles is comparatively small, and their upper jaw has small cavities where the lower teeth fit in, thus making only their upper teeth visible when their mouths are closed. The majority of crocodiles have a streamlined shape.
